1 Ekuseni kakhulu abaphristi abakhulu, labadala, labafundisi bomthetho kanye leSanihedrini yonke bavumelana ngesinqumo sabo. Bambopha uJesu bamqhuba bayamethula kuPhilathu.
Immediately in the morning the chief priests, with the elders and Torah-Teachers, and the whole council, held a consultation, and bound Yeshua [Salvation], and carried him away, and delivered him up to Pilate [Armed with javelin].
2 UPhilathu wambuza wathi, “Uyinkosi yamaJuda na?” UJesu waphendula wathi, “Usukutshilo lokho.”
Pilate [Armed with javelin] asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews [Praisers]?” He answered, “So you say.”
3 Abaphristi abakhulu bamethesa amacala amanengi.
The chief priests accused him of many things.
4 Ngakho uPhilathu wambuza njalo wathi, “Kanti kungani ungaphenduli na? Khangela, bakubeka amacala amanengi.”
Pilate [Armed with javelin] again asked him, “Have you no answer? See how many things they testify against you!”
5 Kodwa uJesu wala elokhu ethule, uPhilathu wamangala.
But Yeshua [Salvation] made no further answer, so that Pilate [Armed with javelin] marveled.
6 Kwakungumkhuba ukuthi ngomkhosi kukhululwe isibotshwa esasizabe sicelwe ngabantu.
Now at the feast he used to release to them one prisoner, whom they asked of him.
7 Indoda eyayithiwa nguBharabhasi yayisentolongweni kanye labahlamuki ababebulele abantu kulowomvukela.
There was one called Bar-Abba [Son Father], bound with his fellow insurgents, men who in the insurrection had committed murder.
8 Ixuku labantu leza kuPhilathu ukuthi abenzele leyo nhlalayenza.
The multitude, crying aloud, began to ask him to do as he always did for them.
9 “Lifuna ukuthi ngilikhululele inkosi yamaJuda na?” UPhilathu wabuza,
Pilate [Armed with javelin] answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews [Praisers]?”
10 esazi ukuthi kwakungenxa yomhawu okwenza abaphristi abakhulu banikela uJesu kuye.
For he perceived that for envy the chief priests had delivered him up.
11 Kodwa abaphristi abakhulu badunga abantu babakhuthaza ukuthi bacele uPhilathu abakhululele uBharabhasi.
But the chief priests stirred up the multitude, that he should release Bar-Abba [Son Father] to them instead.
12 UPhilathu wasebabuza wathi, “Pho ngithini ngalo elimbiza ngokuthi uyinkosi yamaJuda na?”
Pilate [Armed with javelin] again asked them, “What then should I do to him whom you call the King of the Jews [Praisers]?”
13 Bamemeza bathi, “Mbethele!”
They cried out again, “Crucify him!”
14 UPhilathu wabuza wathi, “Yindaba? Woneni?” Kodwa bamemeza ngamandla bathi, “Mbethele!”
Pilate [Armed with javelin] said to them, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they cried out exceedingly, “Crucify him!”
15 UPhilathu wasebakhululela uBharabhasi ngoba wayefuna ukusuthisa ixuku labantu. Wathi uJesu katshaywe, ngemva kwalokho wasebapha ukuba bambethele.
Pilate [Armed with javelin], wishing to please the multitude, released Bar-Abba [Son Father] to them, and handed over Yeshua [Salvation], when he had flogged him, to be nailed to the execution-stake.
16 Amabutho amqhuba uJesu amusa esigodlweni (kutshiwo iPhrethoriyamu) basebebiza iviyo lonke lamabutho laqoqana ndawonye.
The soldiers led him away within the court, which is the Praetorium; and they called together the whole cohort.
17 Bamgqokisa ijazi eliyibubende, basebeseluka umqhele wameva bamethesa wona.
They clothed him with purple, and weaving a crown of thorns, they put it on him.
18 Basebememeza besithi kuye, “Bayethe, nkosi yamaJuda!”
They began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews [Praisers]!”
19 Bamtshaya ekhanda ngomqwayi baphindaphinda, bamkhafulela. Baguqa phansi ngamadolo bamkhonza.
They struck his head with a reed, and spat on him, and bowing their knees, did homage to him.
20 Sebemhozile, bamhlubula ijazi eliyibubende bamgqokisa ezakhe izigqoko. Basebephuma laye bamqhuba ukuba bayombethela.
When they had mocked him, they took the purple off of him, and put his own garments on him. They led him out to crucify him.
21 Indoda ethile yaseKhureni, eyayithiwa nguSimoni, uyise ka-Alekizanda loRufasi, wayezedlulela khonapho evela emaphandleni, basebembamba ngamandla ukuthi athwale isiphambano.
They compelled one passing by, coming from the country, Simeon [Hearing] of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to go with them, that he might bear his execution-stake.
22 Baletha uJesu endaweni eyayithiwa yiGoligotha (okutsho ukuthi, “Indawo yoKhakhayi”).
They brought him to the place called Golgotha, which means, “[The place of a skull].”
23 Basebemupha iwayini elihlanganiswe lemure, kodwa wala ukulinatha.
They offered him wine mixed with myrrh to drink, but he didn’t take it.
24 Basebembethela. Bahlukanisa izigqoko zakhe basebesenza inkatho ukuze babone ukuthi ngulowo athathe kuphi.
Crucifying him, they parted his garments among them, casting lots on them, what each should take.
25 Kwakulihola lesithathu isikhathi abambethela ngaso.
It was nine in the morning when they nailed him to the stake.
26 Umbhalo wecala lakhe wawusithi: INkosi yamaJuda.
The superscription of his accusation was written over him, “The King of the Jews [Praisers].”
27 Babethela kanye laye abaphangi ababili, omunye kwesokunene sakhe, omunye kwesokhohlo. [
With him they executed on the stake two robbers; one on his right hand, and one on his left.
28 Kwagcwaliseka umbhalo othi, “Wabalwa ndawonye lezephulamthetho.”]
The Scripture was fulfilled, which says, “He was counted with lawless ·not subject to Torah, departing from Torah·. people”
29 Labo ababedlula lapho babemthuka benikina amakhanda abo besithi, “Ehe! Wena ozadiliza ithempeli ulakhe ngezinsuku ezintathu,
Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads, and saying, “Ha! You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days,
30 yehla esiphambanweni uzisindise!”
save yourself, and come down from the execution-stake!”
31 Ngaleyondlela labaphristi abakhulu labafundisi bomthetho bamklolodela behlekisana ngaye phakathi kwabo. Bathi, “Wasindisa abanye, kodwa uyehluleka ukuzisindisa yena!
Likewise, also the chief priests mocking among themselves with the Torah-Teachers said, “He saved others. He can’t save himself.
32 Ake kuthi uKhristu lo, iNkosi le yako-Israyeli, yehle esiphambanweni ukuze sibone, sikholwe.” Lalabo ayebethelwe kanye labo, labo babemhlambaza.
Let the Messiah [Anointed one], the Melek Isra'el [King of God prevails], now come down from the execution-stake, that we may see and trust him.” Those who were placed on execution-stakes with him also insulted him.
33 Ngehola lesithupha ubumnyama bembesa ilizwe lonke kwaze kwaba lihola lesificamunwemunye.
At noon, there was darkness over the whole land until three o'clock in the afternoon.
34 Kwathi ngehola lesithathu emini uJesu wakhala ngelizwi elikhulu wathi, “Eloyi, Eloyi, lamasabakithani?” (okutsho ukuthi, “Nkulunkulu wami, Nkulunkulu wami, ungitshiyelani na?”).
At three, Yeshua [Salvation] cried with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
35 Kwathi abanye balabo ababemi eduzane bekuzwa lokho bathi, “Zwanini, ubiza u-Elija.”
Some of those who stood by, when they heard it, said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah [My God Yah].”
36 Enye indoda yagcwalisa uzipho ngewayini elimunyu, yaluxhumela oluthini, yasiluqhubela uJesu ukuthi anathe. Yasisithi, “Ake simyekele manje, kesibone ingabe u-Elija uzakuza azomehlisa.”
One ran, and filling a sponge full of vinegar, put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Let him be. Let’s see whether Elijah [My God Yah] comes to take him down.”
37 Ngomkhosi omkhulu, uJesu waphefumula okokucina.
Yeshua [Salvation] cried out with a loud voice, and gave up the spirit.
38 Ikhetheni lethempeli ladabuka kabili lisuka phezulu kusiya phansi.
The veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom.
39 Kwathi induna yekhulu eyayimi khonapho phambi kukaJesu isizwa ukukhala kwakhe njalo ikubonile ukuthi ufe kanjani yathi, “Ngeqiniso indoda le ibe iyiNdodana kaNkulunkulu!”
When the centurion, who stood by opposite him, saw that he cried out like this and breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Ben-Elohim ·Son of Elohim God·!”
40 Abanye abesifazane babebukele bebucwala. Phakathi kwabo kwakuloMariya Magadalini loMariya unina kaJakhobe omncinyane lokaJosefa loSalome.
There were also women watching from afar, among whom were both Mary of Magdala [Rebellion of City tower], and Mary [Rebellion] the mother of James [Surplanter] the less and of Joses, and Salome;
41 Laba abesifazane babemlandele bemsebenzela eseGalile. Labanye abesifazane abanengi ababeze laye eJerusalema labo babekhona.
who, when he was in Galilee [District, Circuit], followed him, and served him; and many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem [City of peace].
42 Kwakulusuku lokuLungiselela (kutsho usuku olwandulela iSabatha). Kwathi sekuntambama
When evening had now come, because it was the Preparation Day (Nissan 14), that is, the day before the festival Sabbath ·To cease·,
43 uJosefa wase-Arimathiya indoda elesithunzi eNkundleni, yona ngokwayo eyayilindele umbuso kaNkulunkulu, yaqunga isibindi yaya kuPhilathu yacela isidumbu sikaJesu.
Joseph of Arimathaea [May he add of Lofty place], a prominent council member who also himself was looking for God’s Kingdom, came. He boldly went in to Pilate [Armed with javelin], and asked for Yeshua's [Salvation]'s body.
44 UPhilathu wamangala ukuthi wayesefile. Wabiza induna yekhulu wayibuza ukuthi uJesu wayesefile yini.
Pilate [Armed with javelin] marveled if he were already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he had been dead long.
45 Wathi esezwile ngenduna yekhulu ukuthi kwasekwenzakele, wamupha uJosefa isidumbu.
When he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph [May he add].
46 Ngakho uJosefa wasethenga amalembu elineni, wathatha isidumbu wasigoqela ngelineni wasibeka ethuneni elaligujwe edwaleni. Wasegiqela ilitshe emlonyeni wethuna.
He bought a linen cloth, and taking him down, wound him in the linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb which had been cut out of a rock. He rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.
47 UMariya Magadalini loMariya unina kaJosefa babona lapho abekwa khona.
Mary of Magdala [Rebellion of City tower] and Mary [Rebellion], the mother of Joses, saw where he was laid.
