ULukha 4
1 UJesu egcwele uMoya oNgcwele wasuka evela eJodani wasekhokhelwa nguMoya wamusa enkangala,
And Jesus, full of the Holy Ghost, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, tempted by the devil forty days.
2 lapho alingwa khona nguSathane okwensuku ezingamatshumi amane. Kadlanga lutho ngalezonsuku, ekupheleni kwazo, wayeselambile.
And He ate nothing during those days; and they having been completed, He afterward hungered.
3 USathane wathi kuye, “Nxa uyiNdodana kaNkulunkulu, tshela ilitshe leli ukuthi liphenduke libe yisinkwa.”
And the devil said to Him, If thou art the Son of God, speak to this stone, in order that it may become bread.
4 UJesu waphendula wathi, “Kulotshiwe ukuthi: ‘Umuntu kaphili ngesinkwa kuphela.’”
And Jesus responded to him, saying; It has been written, That man shall not live upon bread alone, but upon every word of God.
5 USathane wamholela endaweni ephakemeyo wamtshengisa ngesikhathi esifitshane yonke imibuso yomhlaba.
And the devil leading Him up, he showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 Wasesithi kuye, “Ngizakunika amandla lenkazimulo yayo yonke ngoba kuphiwe mina njalo ngingapha loba ngubani engifuna ukumupha.
And the devil said to Him, I will give all the authority and glories of these to thee: because it has been given unto me: and I give it to whom I may wish;
7 Ungangikhonza konke kuzakuba ngokwakho.”
then if thou mayest worship before me all shall belong to thee.
8 UJesu waphendula wathi, “Kulotshiwe ukuthi: ‘Khonza iNkosi uNkulunkulu wakho njalo usebenzele yena yedwa.’”
And Jesus responding said to him; It has been written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God and Him only shalt thou serve.
9 USathane wamholela eJerusalema wayamisa engqongeni yethempeli. Wathi kuye “Nxa uyiNdodana kaNkulunkulu, ziphosele phansi usuka lapha.
And he led Him into Jerusalem, and placed Him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, If thou art the Son of God cast thyself down from thence;
10 Kalokho kulotshiwe ukuthi: ‘Uzayala izingilosi zakhe ngawe ukuthi zikulondoloze ngokunanzelela;
for it has been written, That He will give His angels charge concerning thee, in order to guard thee,
11 zizakuphakamisa ezandleni zazo, ukuze ungatshayeki ngonyawo lwakho elitsheni.’”
and they will bear thee upon their hands, lest at any time thou mayest dash thy foot against a stone.
12 UJesu waphendula wathi “Kuthiwa khona, ‘Ungayilingi iNkosi uNkulunkulu wakho.’”
And Jesus responding said to him; That it has been said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
13 Kwathi uSathane eseqedile ukumlinga konke wamtshiya walindela ukuzamlinga njalo ngesinye isikhathi.
And the devil having perfected every temptation, departed from Him for a season.
14 UJesu wabuyela eGalile elamandla kaMoya, izindaba ngaye zanda kuwo wonke umango.
And Jesus returned in the power of the spirit into Galilee. And the fame concerning Him went throughout the whole country.
15 Wafundisa emasinagogweni abo, abantu bonke bamdumisa.
And He was teaching in their synagogues, being glorified by all.
16 Waya eNazaretha lapho akhulela khona kwathi ngeSabatha waya esinagogweni njengenjayelo yakhe. Wasukuma wabala.
And He came into Nazareth, where He was brought up: and according to the custom to Him, He came into the synagogue on the Sabbath-day, and stood up to read.
17 Umqulu womphrofethi u-Isaya wedluliselwa kuye. Wawutshombulula wafumana indawo okulotshwe khona kwathiwa:
And the Book of Isaiah the prophet was given to Him; and having opened the book, He found the place where it was written,
18 “Umoya kaThixo uphezu kwami, ngoba uThixo ungigcobile ukuba ngitshumayele izindaba ezinhle kwabampofu. Ungithumile ukuba ngimemezele ukukhululwa kwabathunjiweyo lokusiliswa kweziphofu ukuthi zibone, ukukhululwa kwabancindezelweyo,
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor: hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim deliverance to the captives, and sight to the blind, and to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 lokumemezela umnyaka womusa kaThixo.”
to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.
20 Wasewugoqa, wawubuyisela esikhonzini sebandla, wahlala phansi. Amehlo abo bonke esinagogweni athi nhlo kuye,
And having closed the book, and giving it back to the officer, He sat down: and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on Him.
21 waseqalisa ngokuthi kubo, “Lamhla umbhalo usugcwalisekile lizizwela.”
And He began to say to them; This day has this Scripture been fulfilled in your ears.
22 Bonke bakhuluma kuhle ngaye bemangaliswa ngamazwi amnandi ayephuma emlonyeni wakhe. Babuzana besithi, “Kanti lo kasindodana kaJosefa na?”
And they all continued to witness to Him, and wonder at the words of grace proceeding out from His mouth: and say, Is not this the son of Joseph?
23 UJesu wathi kubo, “Ngeqiniso lizasitsho kimi lesi isaga esithi: ‘Nyanga, zelaphe! Yenza lapha edolobheni lakini lokho esizwa kuthiwa wakwenza eKhaphenawume.’”
And He said to them, You truly speak to me this parable, Physician, heal thyself: so many things as we heard having been done in Capernaum, do also here in thy own country.
24 Waqhubeka wathi, “Ngiqinisile ngithi kakulamphrofethi oyamukelekayo edolobheni lakibo.
And He said, Truly I say unto you, that no prophet is acceptable in his own country.
25 Ngiyaqinisa kini ukuthi babebanengi abafelokazi ko-Israyeli ngesikhathi sika-Elija, lapho umkhathi wavaleka okweminyaka emithathu elengxenye kwaba lendlala enzima elizweni lonke.
And in truth I say unto you, There were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah. When the heaven was shut up three years and six months, how the famine was great over all the land;
26 Kodwa u-Elija kazange athunywe lakoyedwa wabo, ngaphandle komfelokazi waseZarefathi emangweni waseSidoni.
and Elijah was sent to none of them, except to a widow woman in Sarepta of Sidon.
27 Babebanengi ko-Israyeli ababelobulephero ngesikhathi sika-Elisha umphrofethi, kodwa munye kuphela phakathi kwabo owahlanjululwayo, uNamani waseSiriya.”
And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha; and none of them were cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.
28 Bonke abantu ababesesinagogweni bathi bekuzwa lokhu bathukuthela kakhulu.
And all in the synagogue, hearing these things, were filled with wrath.
29 Basukuma, bamtshovela phandle kwedolobho bamusa eliweni loqaqa okwakwakhelwe kulo idolobho beqonde ukumsunduzela phansi edongeni.
And rising up, they cast Him out of the city, and were leading Him to the brink of the mountain on which their city was built, to hurl Him down;
30 Kodwa wasuka wahamba wadabula phakathi kwexuku labantu.
and He having passed through the midst of them went away.
31 Wasesiya eKhaphenawume, idolobho elaliseGalile, kwathi ngeSabatha wafundisa abantu.
And He came down into Capernaum, a city of Galilee, And He was teaching them on the Sabbath.
32 Bamangaliswa yikufundisa kwakhe ngoba intshumayelo yakhe yayilesisindo.
And they were astonished at His teaching; because His word was with authority.
33 Esinagogweni lapho kwakulendoda eyayiphethwe lidimoni, umoya ongcolileyo. Yaklabalala ngelizwi layo lonke yathi,
And in the synagogue there was a man having a spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried with a great voice,
34 “Hamba khatshana! Ufunani kithi, Jesu waseNazaretha? Ulande ukuza sibhubhisa na? Ngiyakwazi ukuthi ungubani, ungoNgcwele kaNkulunkulu!”
saying, Let me alone; what is there to us and to thee, O Jesus the Nazarene? Hast thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
35 UJesu wamkhuza wathi, “Thula! Phuma kuye!” Idimoni layilahla phansi indoda phambi kwabo bonke laphuma lingayilimazanga indoda.
Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be silent and come out from him; and the demon having thrown him down in the midst came out from him, not having injured him.
36 Bonke abantu bamangala kakhulu bakhulumisana besithi, “Yikufundisa bani lokhu? Ulaya imimoya emibi ngegunya langamandla layo iphume!”
And fear came upon them all, and they were talking together to one another, saying, What word is this? because with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.
37 Zamemetheka izindaba ngaye kuwo wonke umango walapho.
And the report concerning Him was going out into every place in the surrounding country,
38 UJesu wasuka esinagogweni waya emzini kaSimoni. Uninazala kaSimoni wayegula ebanjwe ngumkhuhlane woqhuqho onzima basebecela uJesu ukuthi amsize.
Having arisen up from the synagogue, He came into the house of Simon. And the mother-in-law of Simon was afflicted with a great fever; and they asked Him concerning her.
39 Wasekhothamela kuye wakhuza umkhuhlane lowo wahle waphuma kuye. Yena wathi lothu, waqalisa ukubaphakela.
And He, standing over her, rebuked the fever; and dismissed it; and immediately, having stood up, she continued to minister unto them.
40 Kwathi ilanga selitshona abantu baletha kuJesu bonke ababe lemikhuhlane eyehlukeneyo, wabasilisa ngokubeka izandla phezu kwalowo lalowo ngamunye.
And the sun having gone down, all so many as had people afflicted with various diseases continued to lead them to Him; and He having put His hands on each one of them, healed them.
41 Phezu kwalokho amadimoni aphuma kwabanengi ememeza esithi, “Wena uyiNdodana kaNkulunkulu!” Kodwa wawakhuza kazawavumela ukuthi akhulume ngoba ayemazi ukuthi unguKhristu.
And the demons continued to go out from many, crying, and saying, Thou art the Christ, the Son of God. And rebuking them, He did not suffer them to speak, because they knew that He was the Christ.
42 Emadabukakusa uJesu wasuka waya endaweni ethuleyo. Abantu babemdinga bathi sebefike lapho ayekhona, bazama ukumvimba ukuthi angabatshiyi.
And it being day, having come out, He departed into a desert place: and the multitudes continued to seek Him; and they came unto Him, and they constrained Him not to depart from them.
43 Kodwa wathi, “Kumele ngitshumayele izindaba ezinhle zombuso kaNkulunkulu kwamanye amadolobho, ngoba yikho engakulandayo.”
And He said to them, That, it behooveth me to preach the gospel of the kingdom of God to many other cities: because unto this I have been sent.
44 Waqhubeka etshumayela emasinagogweni aseJudiya.
And He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.
