1 UJesu watshela abafundi bakhe wathi, “Kwakulendoda eyayinothile ilomphathi owetheswa icala lokuthi wayechithachithe inotho yayo.
And he said also to his disciples, There was a certain rich man, who had a steward; and the same was accused to him that he had wasted his goods.
2 Yambiza yambuza yathi, ‘Kuyini lokhu engikuzwayo ngawe? Landisa kuhle ukuthi uhambisa njani izinto ngoba ungeke usaba ngumphathi njalo.’
And he called him, and said to him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward.
3 Umphathi wazibuza wathi, ‘Ngizakuthini? Inkosi yami isingithathela umsebenzi wami. Kangilamandla okugebha, njalo ngilenhloni zokucela.
Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; I am ashamed to beg.
4 Ngiyazi engizakwenza ukuthi nxa ngilahlekelwa ngumsebenzi wami abantu bangamukele ezindlini zabo.’
I am resolved what to do, that, when I am removed from the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.
5 Ngakho yasibiza labo ababelezikwelede enkosini yayo munye ngamunye yathi, kowokuqala, ‘Isikwelede sakho enkosini yami singakanani?’
So he called every one of his lord’s debtors, and said to the first, How much owest thou to my lord?
6 Wathi, ‘Ngamalitha amafutha e-oliva azinkulungwane ezine.’ Umphathi wamtshela wathi, ‘Phangisa, thatha incwadi yakho yesikwelede ubhale izinkulungwane ezimbili.’
And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said to him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.
7 Yasibuza owesibili yathi, ‘Wena ulesikwelede esingakanani?’ Wathi, ‘Yimigodla yengqoloyi eyinkulungwane.’ Yamtshela yathi, ‘Thatha incwadi yakho yesikwelede ubhale amakhulu ayisificaminwembili.’
Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said to him, Take thy bill, and write eighty.
8 Inkosi yamncoma lowomphathi owayeliqili ngoba wayenze ukuhlakanipha. Ngoba abantu balumhlaba balezindledlana zabo zokuhlakanipha ekuphathaneni kwabo ukwedlula abantu bokukhanya. (aiōn g165)
And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. (aiōn g165)
9 Ngiyalitshela ngithi, sebenzisani inotho yomhlaba ukuzuza abangane ukuze kuthi nxa isiphelile lamukeleke ezindlini ezimi laphakade. (aiōnios g166)
And I say to you, Make to yourselves friends by the riches of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. (aiōnios g166)
10 Lowo othembeke kokuncinyane uzakwethembeka njalo kokunengi, ikanti lowo ongathembekanga kokuncinyane angeke njalo athembeke kokunengi.
He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
11 Ngakho-ke, nxa lingathembekanga ekuphatheni inotho yasemhlabeni, pho ngubani ongalithemba ngenotho yeqiniso na?
If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous riches, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
12 Njalo nxa belingathembekanga ngempahla yomunye umuntu, ngubani kambe ozalipha impahla ibe ngeyenu na?
And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?
13 Kakulanceku engakhonza amakhosi amabili. Funa izonde enye kodwa ithande enye, kumbe izinikele kwenye yeyise enye. Ngezake likhonze uNkulunkulu lemali ngokufanayo.”
No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and riches.
14 AbaFarisi ababethanda imali bakuzwa konke lokhu, bamklolodela uJesu.
And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they mocked him.
15 Wathi kubo, “Yini elizigezayo emehlweni abantu kodwa uNkulunkulu uyazazi inhliziyo zenu. Lokho okuligugu ebantwini kuyisinengiso kuNkulunkulu.”
And he said to them, Ye are they who justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
16 “UMthetho labaPhrofethi kwatshunyayelwa kwaze kwaba yisikhathi sikaJohane. Kusukela kulesosikhathi izindaba ezinhle zombuso kaNkulunkulu ziyatshunyayelwa njalo bonke abantu bazifuqela kuwo.
The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
17 Kungaba lula ukuthi izulu lomhlaba kunyamalale kulokuthi kucitshe ichatha loMthetho elilodwa nje.
And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than one tittle of the law to fail.
18 Loba ngubani olahla umkakhe athathe omunye umfazi uyafeba njalo lendoda ethatha umfazi owalahlwayo iyafeba.”
Whoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.
19 “Kwakulendoda enothileyo eyayigqoka izigqoko zombala oyibubende lezelembu lelineni, iphakathi kobutifitifi insuku zonke.
There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 Entubeni yomuzi wayo kwakuhlezi isiceli esasithiwa nguLazaro, sigcwele izilonda emzimbeni,
And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 siloyisa ukudla lokho okwakukhithika etafuleni yalesosicebi. Izinja zazifika zikhothe izilonda zaso.
And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 Kwafika isikhathi lapho isiceli esafa khona, izingilosi zasithwala zasisa eceleni lika-Abhrahama. Lesicebi laso safa, sabekwa.
And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 Esihogweni lapho esasisitsha khona; savusa ubuso sabona u-Abhrahama ekude le, kuloLazaro eceleni kwakhe. (Hadēs g86)
And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. (Hadēs g86)
24 Sasesimemeza sathi, ‘Baba Abhrahama, ake ungihawukele uthume uLazaro agxamuze umunwe wakhe emanzini athambise ulimi lwami, ngoba ngisebuhlungwini emlilweni lo.’
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 Kodwa u-Abhrahama waphendula wathi, ‘Ndodana, khumbula ukuthi ngesikhathi usaphila wazuza izinto zakho ezinhle kodwa uLazaro wemukela izinto ezimbi, khangela manje useduduzwa lapha, ikanti wena ususebuhlungwini.
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime didst receive thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 Njalo ngaphandle kwakho konke lokhu, phakathi kwethu lawe kulodonga olukhulu, ukwenzela ukuthi labo abafisa ukuza ngapho besuka lapha behluleke, futhi kakho ongapho ongachaphela ngakithi.’
And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they who would pass from here to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from there.
27 Saphendula sathi, ‘Nxa kunjalo-ke, ngiyakuncenga, baba, thuma uLazaro endlini kababa,
Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house:
28 ngoba ngilabafowethu abahlanu. Ayebaxwayisa ukuze labo bangezi kule indawo yobuhlungu.’
For I have five brethren; that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 U-Abhrahama waphendula wathi, ‘BaloMosi labaPhrofethi; kabalalele bona.’
Abraham saith to him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 Sathi, ‘Hatshi, baba Abhrahama, kodwa nxa kusuka umuntu kwabafileyo aye kubo bazaphenduka.’
And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went to them from the dead, they will repent.
31 Wathi kuso, ‘Nxa bengalaleli uMosi labaPhrofethi, kabasoze bavume loba omunye angaze avuke kwabafileyo.’”
And he said to him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
