1 Ngemva kwalokhu iNkosi yakhetha abanye abangamatshumi ayisikhombisa lambili ukuba bamandulele baye kuwo wonke amadolobho lezindawo lezo ayesezazihambela.
And after these things, the Lord appointed seventy others, also, and sent them, two and two, before his face, into every city and place to which he himself was about to go.
2 Wabatshela wathi, “Isivuno sinengi, kodwa izisebenzi zimbalwa. Ngakho celani iNkosi yesivuno ukuthi ithumele izisebenzi ensimini yayo yokuvuna.
He said, therefore, to them: The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; pray, therefore, the Lord of the harvest that he send out laborers into his harvest.
3 Hambani! Ngilithuma linjengamazinyane ezimvu phakathi kwempisi.
Go; behold, I send you as lambs in the midst of wolves.
4 Lingathwali isikhwama kumbe umxhaka loba amanyathela; njalo lingabingeleli muntu endleleni.
Carry no purse, nor bag, nor sandals; and salute no one on the road.
5 Nxa lingena endlini, qalani lithi, ‘Ukuthula akube kule indlu.’
Whatever house you enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
6 Nxa kulomuntu woxolo lapho, ukuthula kwenu kakube kuye; nxa kungenjalo kuzabuyela kini.
And if a son of peace be there, your peace shall rest on him; but, if not, it shall return upon you.
7 Hlalani kuleyondlu, lidle njalo linathe loba yini abalinika khona ngoba osebenzayo ufanele aphiwe iholo lakhe. Linganqumi ngezindlu lihlala lapha lalapha.
And in that house remain, eating and drinking what they have to give; for the laborer is worthy of his hire; go not from house to house.
8 Nxa lifika edolobheni lamukelwe khona, dlanini lokho elikuphiwayo.
And whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat what is set before you;
9 Silisani abagulayo abayabe belapho, njalo libatshele ukuthi, ‘Umbuso kaNkulunkulu useduze kwenu.’
and heal those in it who are sick, and say to them: The kingdom of God has come near to you.
10 Kodwa nxa lingafika edolobheni lingemukelwa, yanini emigwaqweni yalo lithi,
But whatever city you enter, and they receive you not, go out into the streets of it, and say:
11 ‘Lalo uthuli lwedolobho lenu olunamathele ezinyaweni zethu siyaluthintithela kini. Kodwa yazini lokhu: Umbuso kaNkulunkulu ususeduze.’
Even the dust of your city, which cleaves to us, we do wipe off against you; yet know this, that the kingdom of God has come near to you.
12 Ngiyalitshela, okweSodoma kuzakuba ngcono ngalelolanga kulokwalelodolobho.
I say to you, It shall be more tolerable, in that day, for Sodom, than for that city.
13 Maye kuwe Khorazini! Maye kuwe Bhethisayida! Aluba izimangaliso lezo ezenziwa kuwe zazenziwe eThire leSidoni ngabe kudala baphenduka begqoke izigqoko zamasaka bazithela ngomlotha.
Alas for thee, Chorazin! alas for thee, Bethsaida! for, if the mighty works which have been done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
14 Kodwa kuzakuba ngcono okweThire leSidoni mhla wokwahlulela kulokuza kuwe.
But for Tyre and Sidon it shall be more tolerable in the judgment, than for you.
15 Lawe, Khaphenawume, kambe uzaphakanyiselwa emazulwini na? Hatshi, uzatshona phansi uye eHadesi. (Hadēs g86)
And thou, Capernaum, who hast been exalted to heaven, shalt be brought down to hades. (Hadēs g86)
16 Lowo olalela lina ulalela mina; lowo olahla lina ulahla mina; kodwa lowo ongalayo wala yena owangithumayo.”
He that hears you, hears me; and he that rejects you, rejects me; and he that rejects me, rejects him that sent me.
17 Abangamatshumi ayisikhombisa lambili babuya bethokoza bathi, “Nkosi, lamadimoni ayasithobela ngebizo lakho.”
And the seventy returned with joy, and said: Lord, even the demons are subject to us through thy name.
18 Waphendula wathi, “Ngimbonile uSathane esiwa njengombane esuka ezulwini.
And he said to them: I saw Satan, like lightning from heaven, falling.
19 Ngiliphile amandla okugxoba izinyoka lenkume lokunqoba wonke amandla esitha; kakukho okuzalilimaza.
Behold, I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and authority over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20 Kodwa lingathatshiswa yikuthi imimoya iyazithoba kini, kodwa thokoziswani yikuthi amabizo enu alotshiwe ezulwini.”
However, rejoice not in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.
21 Ngalesosikhathi uJesu egcwele intokozo ngoMoya oNgcwele wathi, “Ngiyakudumisa, Baba, Nkosi yasezulwini lasemhlabeni, ngoba uzifihlile lezizinto kwabahlakaniphileyo labafundileyo wazambula ebantwaneni abancinyane. Yebo, Baba, ngoba lokhu kwakuyikuthanda kwakho okuhle.
In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said: I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to babes; even so, Father, for so it seemed good in thy sight.
22 Zonke izinto zethulwe kimi nguBaba. Kakho owaziyo ukuthi ingubani iNdodana ngaphandle kukaBaba, njalo kakho omaziyo uBaba ukuthi ungubani ngaphandle kweNdodana lalabo iNdodana ekhethe ukuba imveze kubo.”
All things are delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is but the Father, and who the Father is but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.
23 Wasephendukela kubafundi bakhe wathi kubo ngasese, “Abusisiwe amehlo abona lokhu elikubonayo lina.
And he turned to his disciples, and said privately: Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.
24 Ngoba ngiqinisile ukuthi abaphrofethi abanengi lamakhosi babefisa ukubona lokhu elikubonayo, kodwa kabakubonanga, lokuzwa lokhu elikuzwayo, kodwa kabakuzwanga.”
For I say to you, that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see; and to hear what you hear, and did not hear.
25 Ngesinye isikhathi isazi somthetho saphakama samlinga uJesu. Sabuza sathi, “Mfundisi, ngingenzani ukuze ngizuze ilifa lempilo engapheliyo na?” (aiōnios g166)
And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up to tempt him, and said: Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? (aiōnios g166)
26 UJesu waphendula wathi, “Kubhalweni emthethweni, uwufunda njani?”
He said to him: What is written in the law? How do you read?
27 Waphendula wathi, “‘Thanda iNkosi uNkulunkulu wakho ngenhliziyo yakho yonke, langomphefumulo wakho wonke, langamandla akho wonke, njalo langengqondo yakho yonke’; njalo, ‘Thanda umakhelwane wakho njengoba uzithanda wena.’”
He answered and said: You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole strength, and with your whole understanding, and your neighbor as yourself.
28 UJesu waphendula wathi, “Uphendule kuhle. Kwenze lokhu, uzaphila.”
He said to him: You have answered correctly; do this, and you shall live.
29 Kodwa wayefuna ukuzigeza, wasebuza kuJesu, wathi, “Kanti ngubani ongumakhelwana wami na?”
But, wishing to justify himself, he said to Jesus: And who is my neighbor?
30 UJesu waphendula ngokuthi: “Indoda yayihamba iphuma eJerusalema isiya eJerikho, yaqabuka isihlaselwa ngabaphangi. Bayihlubula izigqoko zayo, bayitshaya basebehamba, beyitshiya iqalekile.
And Jesus answered and said: A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among; robbers, who stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and went away, leaving him half dead.
31 Kwakulomphristi owayehamba ngaleyondlela, owathi eyibona indoda leyo waceza kwelinye icele.
And by chance a certain priest went down along that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
32 Wenza njalo lomLevi, wafika kuleyondawo wayibona indoda wakhekheleza wedlula.
In like manner, also, a Levite, when he came to the place, went and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
33 Kodwa umSamariya, wathi ezihambela wafika lapho indoda eyayikhona, wathi eyibona wayizwela usizi.
But a certain Samaritan, who was on a journey, came near him; and when he saw him, he had compassion on him.
34 Waya kuyo, wabopha amanxeba ayo, wawathela amafutha lewayini. Waseyikhweza kubabhemi wakhe, wayisa endlini yezihambi, wayinakekela.
And he went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine; and he put him on his own beast, and carried him to an inn, and took care of him.
35 Ngosuku olulandelayo wakhupha inhlamvu ezimbili zamadenari wazinika umphathi wendawo. Wathi, ‘Mgcine, kuzakuthi nxa sengibuya ngizabhadala lezondleko eziyabe zisele.’
And on the morrow, when he departed, he took out two denarii, and gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him: Take care of him; and whatever you spend more, on my return, I will repay you.
36 Ngubani pho kulaba abathathu ombona ukuthi wayengumakhelwane wendoda leyo eyahlaselwa ngabaphangi na?”
Which, then, of these three do you think was neighbor to him that fell among the robbers?
37 Isazi somthetho saphendula sathi, “Ngulowo owaba lesihawu kuyo.” UJesu wamtshela wathi, “Hamba wenzenjalo.”
He replied: He that showed mercy to him. Jesus said to him: Go, and do you likewise.
38 Kwathi uJesu labafundi bakhe besekuhambeni kwabo, wafika emzini okwakukhona owesifazane othiwa nguMatha, owamamukela ngesihle emzini wabo.
And it came to pass, as they continued their journey, that he entered a certain village, and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
39 Wayelodadewabo owayethiwa nguMariya, owahlala ezinyaweni zeNkosi elalele lokho eyayikukhuluma.
And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at the feet of Jesus, and heard his word.
40 Kodwa uMatha waphazanyiswa yikulungiselela konke okwakumele kwenziwe. Wabuya kuJesu wabuza wathi, “Nkosi, kawukhathali na ukuthi udadewethu ungitshiye ukuba ngenze ngedwa umsebenzi? Mtshele ukuthi angincedise!”
But Martha made herself busy with much serving; and she came to him, and said: Lord, dost thou not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Bid her, therefore, that she help me.
41 INkosi yaphendula yathi, “Matha, Matha, uhlutshwa njalo ukhathazeke ngezinto ezinengi,
But Jesus answered and said to her: Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things:
42 kodwa kusweleka into eyodwa. UMariya ukhethe okungcono, okungasoze akwemukwe futhi.”
one thing is needful; and Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken from her.
