UJohane 8
1 Kodwa uJesu waya eNtabeni yama-Oliva.
But Jesus went to the mount of Olives;
2 Kwathi kusisa wabonakala njalo emagumeni ethempeli, abantu bonke babuthana kuye, wahlala phansi wabafundisa.
and returned early in the morning into the temple, and all the people came to Him: and He sat down, and taught them.
3 Abafundisi bomthetho labaFarisi baletha owesifazane owayebanjwe ephinga. Bamisa phambi kwabantu
And the scribes and pharisees brought to Him a woman taken in adultery;
4 bathi kuJesu, “Mfundisi, owesifazane lo ukhandwe efeba.
and setting her in the midst, they said to Him, "This woman was caught in the very act, committing adultery.
5 EMthethweni uMosi wasilaya ukuthi abesifazane abanjalo kabakhandwe ngamatshe. Manje wena uthini?”
Now Moses in the law has commanded us that such women should be stoned, but what sayest Thou?"
6 Umbuzo lo wawungumjibila wabo ukuze bazuze izaba lokumbeka icala. Kodwa uJesu wakhothama waseloba phansi ngomunwe.
This they said to tempt Him, that they might have something to accuse Him of. But Jesus stooping down, wrote with his finger upon the ground.
7 Kwathi ngoba belokhu bephikelela ngokumbuza wabakhangela wathi kubo, “Nxa ekhona phakathi kwenu ongelasono kaqale ukumkhanda ngamatshe.”
And as they continued asking Him, He raised himself up and said unto them, "Let him that is without sin among you, first cast a stone at her."
8 Waphinda wakhothama waloba phansi emhlabathini.
Then He stooped down again and wrote on the ground.
9 Esetshonjalo labo abezwayo baqala ukuthi nyelele munye ngamunye bahamba, kwaqala ngabadala bakhona, kwaze kwasala uJesu yedwa lowesifazane lowo elokhu emi khonapho.
But when they heard his answer, being convicted by their own conscience, they went out one by one, beginning at the elder, even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst of the people.
10 UJesu wamkhangela wambuza wathi, “Mama, kanti sebeye ngaphi? Kasekho yini okwethesa icala?”
Then Jesus rising up, and seeing none but the woman, said unto her, Where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 Owesifazane wathi, “Kabasekho, nkosi.” UJesu waphendula wathi, “Lami-ke, kangikulahli, zihambele, kodwa ungaphindi wenze isono futhi.”]
And she said, None, Lord. Then said Jesus unto her, Neither do I condemn thee, Go thy way and sin no more.
12 Kwathi uJesu esekhuluma ebantwini njalo wathi, “Ngiyikukhanya komhlaba. Loba ngubani ongilandelayo kasoze ahambe ebumnyameni lanini kodwa uzakuba lokukhanya kokuphila.”
Then spake Jesus again to them, saying, I am the light of the world; he, that followeth me, shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
13 AbaFarisi bahle bamqaga bathi, “Nanko-ke, wena uyazifakazela; ubufakazi bakho kabulaqiniso.”
The pharisees therefore said to Him, Thou bearest witness of thyself; thy testimony is not true.
14 UJesu waphendula wathi, “Loba ngizifakazela mina, ubufakazi bami buqinisile ngoba ngiyakwazi lapho engavela khona lalapho engiyakhona. Kodwa lina kumnyama nje kini ukuthi ngivela ngaphi lokuthi ngiya ngaphi.
Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear witness of myself, my testimony is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I am going; but ye know not whence I come, nor whither I go.
15 Lina lahlulela ngendlela yabantu; mina kangahluleli muntu.
Ye judge according to the flesh, but I judge no man as yet:
16 Kodwa ngithi nxa ngingehlulela, izinqumo zami zilungile ngoba kangingedwa. Ngimi loBaba ongithumileyo.
though if I should judge, my judgement is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father that sent me.
17 Emthethweni wenu kulotshiwe ukuthi ubufakazi babantu ababili buqinisile.
And it is written in your own law, that the testimony of two persons is valid.
18 Yimi ngokwami engizifakazelayo; omunye umfakazi nguBaba ongithumileyo.”
Now I am one, who bear witness of myself; and the Father, who sent me, beareth witness of me.
19 Basebembuza bathi, “Ungaphi uyihlo?” UJesu waphendula wathi, “Kalingazi mina kanye loBaba. Aluba belingazi, belizamazi loBaba njalo.”
Then said they unto Him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also.
20 Wawakhuluma amazwi la efundisa egumeni lethempeli eduze lalapho okwakubekwa khona iminikelo. Kodwa kakho owambambayo ngoba isikhathi sakhe sasingakafiki.
These words spake Jesus in the treasury, when He was teaching in the temple: and no one laid hands on Him, for his hour was not yet come.
21 Waphinda njalo uJesu wathi kubo, “Ngiyasuka lapha, futhi lizangidinga, kodwa lizafela esonweni senu. Lapho engiyakhona alingeke lize khona.”
Jesus therefore said unto them again, "I am going away, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sin: where I go ye cannot come."
22 AmaJuda asebuzana athi, “Uzazibulala yini? Yikho yini esithi, ‘Lapho engiyakhona lingeke lize khona’?”
The Jews therefore said, What! will He kill himself; that He says, where I am going, ye cannot come?
23 Kodwa waqhubeka wathi, “Lina lingabalapha phansi; mina ngivela phezulu. Lingabomhlaba; mina kangisiwalo umhlaba.
And He said unto them, Ye are from beneath, I am from above: ye are of this world, I am not of this world.
24 Ngilitshelile ukuthi lizafela ezonweni zenu; nxa lingakholwa ukuthi nginguye engithi nginguye, ngempela lizafela ezonweni zenu.”
Therefore I said unto you, that ye shall die in your sins; for if ye believe not that I am the Messiah, ye shall die in your sins.
25 Bambuza bathi, “Uvele ungubani?” UJesu waphendula wathi, “Khonokho ebengivele ngikutsho sonke lesisikhathi.
Then said they to Him, Who art thou? And Jesus answered them, Even the same that I told you at first.
26 Kunengi engingalahlulela ngakho. Kodwa lowo ongithumileyo uthembekile njalo lokho engikuzwileyo kusuka kuye ngikutshela umhlaba.”
I have many things to say and to judge concerning you: but I only say, He that sent me is true, and I declare to the world those things, which I have heard from Him.
27 Kabazange bazwisise ukuthi wayebatshela ngoYise.
But they did not know that He spake unto them of the Father.
28 Ngakho uJesu wasesithi, “Lapho seliyiphakamisile iNdodana yoMuntu lizakwazi ukuthi ngingubani lokuthi kangenzi lutho ngokwami kodwa ngikhuluma kuphela lokho uBaba angifundise khona.
Jesus therefore said unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then ye shall know that I am He, and that I do nothing of myself, but as my Father hath instructed me, I speak these things.
29 Lowo ongithumileyo ulami; kangitshiyanga ngingedwa ngoba ngihlezi ngisenza lokho okumthokozisayo.”
And He that sent me, is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.
30 Wathi esakhuluma lokhu abanengi bakholwa kuye.
As He spake these words many believed on Him.
31 UJesu wathi kumaJuda amkholwayo, “Nxa libambelela emfundisweni yami lingabafundi bami ngempela.
Therefore said Jesus to the Jews that believed on Him, If ye continue in my word, ye are indeed my disciples.
32 Ngakho lizalazi iqiniso, njalo iqiniso lizalikhulula.”
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 Amphendula athi, “Siyinzalo ka-Abhrahama futhi kasizange lanini sibe yizigqili zamuntu. Ukutsho kanjani pho ukuthi sizakhululwa?”
They answered Him, We are the seed of Abraham, and never were slaves to any one, how then dost thou say, Ye shall be made free?
34 UJesu waphendula wathi, “Ngiqinisile ngithi wonke owenza isono uyisigqili sesono.
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily I say unto you, whosoever maketh a practice of sin, is the servant of sin.
Now the servant does not continue always in the family: but the Son abideth always. (aiōn g165)
36 Ngakho-ke, nxa iNdodana ilikhulula, lizakhululeka ngempela.
If therefore the Son make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
37 Ngiyakwazi ukuthi lingabosendo luka-Abhrahama. Kodwa selizimisele ukungibulala ngoba ilizwi lami kalilandawo kini.
I know that ye are the seed of Abraham, but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
38 Ngilitshela lokho engikubone phambi kukaBaba kodwa lina lenza lokho elikuzwileyo ngoyihlo.”
I speak that which I have seen with my Father, and ye do what ye have seen with your father.
39 Aphendula athi, “U-Abhrahama nguye ubaba.” UJesu wathi, “Aluba belingabantwana baka-Abhrahama ngabe lenza izinto ezenziwa nguye u-Abhrahama.
They answered Him, Abraham is our father, Jesus replied, If ye were the children of Abraham, ye would do the works of Abraham:
40 Kodwa kunje nje lizimisele ukungibulala, mina muntu oselitshele iqiniso engilizwileyo livela kuNkulunkulu. U-Abhrahama kazenzanga izinto ezinjalo.
but now ye seek to kill me, who have told you the truth which I have heard from God: Abraham did not thus.
41 Lenza izinto ezenziwa ngowenu uyihlo.” Amvukela athi, “Kasisibantwana abazuzwa ngobufebe thina. UBaba esilaye kuphela nguNkulunkulu ngokwakhe.”
But ye do the works of your father. Then said they unto Him, We are not born of fornication, we have one Father, even God.
42 UJesu wathi kuwo, “Kube uNkulunkulu ubenguYihlo, belizangithanda ngoba ngavela kuNkulunkulu, okwamanje sengilapha. Kangizibuyelanga kodwa uNkulunkulu wangithuma.
Jesus said unto them, If God were your father, ye would love me: for I came forth, and do come, from God; neither came I of myself, but He sent me.
43 Kungani lingaluzwisisi ulimi engilukhulumayo na? Ngoba liyehluleka ukuzwa engikutshoyo.
And why do ye not understand my language, but because ye cannot bear my doctrine?
44 Lingabakayihlo uSathane ngakho lifuna ukusenza isifiso sikayihlo. Wavele waba ngumbulali mdabuko wakhe, kemanga eqinisweni ngoba uvele engelalo iqiniso. Uthi nxa ewaqamba amanga, akhulume ulimi lomdabuko wakhe ngoba ungusomangase loyise wamanga.
Ye are of your father the devil, and are bent upon doing the lusts of your father: he was a murderer from the beginning, and continued not in the truth: for there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh like himself, for he is a liar, and the father of such.
45 Kodwa kalingikholwa ngoba ngilitshela iqiniso!
And because I say the truth, ye believe me not. Which of you convicteth me of sin?
46 Ukhona na kini ongaveza ukuthi ngilecala lesono? Nxa ngikhuluma iqiniso kungani lingangikholwa na?
And if I speak truth, why do ye not believe me?
47 Lowo ongokaNkulunkulu uyakuzwa lokho uNkulunkulu akutshoyo. Isizatho sokuthi lingezwa yikuthi kalisibo bakaNkulunkulu.”
He, that is of God, receiveth the words of God; but ye therefore receive them not, because ye are not of God.
48 AmaJuda aphendula athi, “Siyalahleka yini nxa sisithi ungumSamariya njalo ulamadimoni?”
The Jews therefore answered and said unto Him. Do we not rightly say, that thou art a Samaritan, and art possessed by a demon?
49 UJesu wathi, “Kangiladimoni mina, kodwa ngidumisa uBaba ikanti lina liyangigcona.
Jesus answered I am not possessed by a demon, but I honour my Father, though ye dishonour me.
50 Kangizidingeli udumo mina kodwa ukhona olufunayo, yena ungumahluleli.
And I seek not my own glory; there is One that seeketh it, and judgeth.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, If any one keep my word, he shall never see death. (aiōn g165)
52 Esizwa lokhu amaJuda ababaza athi, “Khathesi sesisazi ukuthi uledimoni! U-Abhrahama wafa kanye labo abaphrofethi kodwa wena uthi nxa umuntu egcina ilizwi lakho kasoze akuzwe ukufa lanini. (aiōn g165)
The Jews therefore said unto Him, Now we are sure that thou art possessed by a demon. Abraham is dead, and the prophets too; and thou sayest, If any one keep my word, he shall never taste of death: art thou greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? (aiōn g165)
53 Wena umkhulu kulobaba u-Abhrahama na? Wafa, kanye labo abaphrofethi. Wena uzenza bani na?”
and the prophets are dead: whom dost thou pretend to be?
54 UJesu waphendula wathi, “Nxa ngizidumisa mina ngokwami, luyize udumo lwami. UBaba, elithi unguNkulunkulu wenu nguye ongidumisayo.
Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honor is nothing: it is my Father that glorifieth me, of whom ye say that He is your God.
55 Lanxa lina lingamazi, mina ngiyamazi. Ngabe ngithe kangimazi, bengizabe ngingumqambi wamanga njengani kodwa ngiyamazi njalo ngiyaligcina ilizwi lakhe.
And yet ye know him not; but I know Him: and if I should say, That I know Him not, I shall be like you, a liar: but I know Him, and obey his word.
56 Uyihlo u-Abhrahama wathakazelela umnakano wokulubona usuku lwami; walubona wathokoza.”
Your father Abraham longed to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
57 AmaJuda athi kuye, “Kawukafikisi iminyaka engamatshumi amahlanu obudala, kodwa uthi usumbonile u-Abhrahama!”
Then said the Jews unto Him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
58 UJesu waphendula wathi, “Ngilitshela iqiniso ukuthi u-Abhrahama engakazalwa, mina ngasengikhona!”
Jesus said unto them, Before Abraham was, I am.
59 Besizwa lokhu badobha amatshe befuna ukumkhanda kodwa uJesu wasithela, waphunyuka wasuka emagumeni ethempeli.
Therefore they took up stones to throw at Him. But Jesus concealed Himself, and went out of the temple, through the midst of them, and so passed on.
