UJohane 7
1 Ngemva kwalokhu uJesu wahambahamba eGalile, kazathanda ukuya eJudiya ngoba amaJuda alapho ayefuna indlela yokumbulala.
And Jesus was walking after these things in Galilee, for He did not wish to walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill Him,
2 Kwathi uMkhosi wamaJuda weziHonqo ususondele
and the celebration of the Jews was near—that of Shelters—
3 abafowabo bakaJesu bathi kuye, “Sekumele usuke lapha uye eJudiya ukuze abafundi bakho babone imimangaliso oyenzayo.
His brothers, therefore, said to Him, “Depart from here, and go away to Judea, that Your disciples may also behold Your works that You do;
4 Kakho umuntu othi efuna ukuba lodumo asebenzele ensitha. Njengoba usenza izinto lezi ziveze emhlabeni.”
for no one does anything in secret, and himself seeks to be in public; if you do these things—reveal Yourself to the world”;
5 Ngoba labafowabo babengakholwa kuye.
for not even His brothers were believing in Him.
6 Ngakho uJesu wabatshela wathi, “Kasikafiki isikhathi sami salokho; kini loba yisiphi isikhathi sililungele.
Jesus, therefore, says to them, “My time is not yet present, but your time is always ready;
7 Umhlaba ngeke ulizonde, kodwa mina uyangizonda ngoba ngiveza ukuthi lokho okwenzayo kubi.
the world is not able to hate you, but it hates Me, because I testify concerning it that its works are evil.
8 Hambani lina emkhosini. Mina kangikayi emkhosini lowo ngoba kimi kasikafiki isikhathi esifaneleyo.”
You—go up to this celebration; I do not yet go up to this celebration, because My time has not yet been fulfilled”;
9 Esetsho lokhu wazihlalela eGalile.
and saying these things to them, He remained in Galilee.
10 Kodwa ngemva kokuba abafowabo sebehambile emkhosini laye waya khona, hatshi obala kodwa wahamba ensitha.
And when His brothers went up, then also He Himself went up to the celebration, not openly, but as in secret;
11 Khonapho emkhosini amaJuda ayemlindele ebuza esithi, “Ingaphi indoda leyana?”
the Jews, therefore, were seeking Him in the celebration, and said, “Where is that One?”
12 Phakathi kwamaxuku abantu kwakulokunyenyezelana ngaye. Abanye bathi, “Ungumuntu olungileyo.” Abanye baphendula bathi, “Hatshi, ukhohlisa abantu.”
And there was much murmuring about Him among the multitudes, some indeed said, “He is good”; and others said, “No, but He leads the multitude astray”;
13 Kodwa kakho owakhuluma ngaye obala ngokwesaba amaJuda.
no one, however, was speaking freely about Him, through fear of the Jews.
14 Kwathi isikhathi somkhosi sesiphakathi laphakathi uJesu wasesiya egumeni lethempeli waqalisa ukufundisa.
And it being now the middle of the celebration, Jesus went up to the temple, and He was teaching,
15 AmaJuda amangala, abuza athi, “Indoda le yaluzuza kanjani ulwazi olungaka yona ingafundanga?”
and the Jews were wondering, saying, “How has this One known letters—having not learned?”
16 UJesu waphendula wathi, “Imfundiso yami kayisiyami. Ivela kulowo ongithumileyo.
Jesus answered them and said, “My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me;
17 Nxa umuntu ekhetha ukwenza intando kaNkulunkulu uzabona ingabe imfundiso yami ivela kuNkulunkulu loba ngiyazikhulumela.
if anyone may will to do His will, he will know concerning the teaching, whether it is of God, or—[if] I speak from Myself.
18 Lowo ozikhulumelayo wenzela ukuzizuzela udumo, kodwa lowo osebenzela udumo lwalowo omthumileyo ngumuntu weqiniso; kakulankohliso kuye.
He who is speaking from himself seeks his own glory, but he who is seeking the glory of him who sent him, this one is true, and unrighteousness is not in him;
19 UMosi kalinikanga yini umthetho? Kodwa kakho lamunye kini owugcinayo umthetho. Kungani lifuna ukungibulala na?”
has not Moses given you the Law? And none of you does the Law; why do you seek to kill Me?”
20 Ixuku labantu laphendula lathi, “Ulamadimoni wena. Ngubani ofuna ukukubulala?”
The multitude answered and said, “You have a demon, who seeks to kill You?”
21 UJesu wathi kubo, “Ngenza umangaliso owodwa lamangala kakhulu lonke.
Jesus answered and said to them, “I did one work, and you all wonder,
22 Kodwa ngoba uMosi walipha ukusoka (loba iqiniso liyikuthi kakuvelanga kuMosi kodwa kubokhokho), liyamsoka umntwana ngeSabatha.
because of this, Moses has given you the circumcision—not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers—and on a Sabbath you circumcise a man;
23 Manje-ke, nxa umntwana engasokwa ngeSabatha kungabi yikuwephula umthetho kaMosi, pho mina lingizondelani ngokuthi ngisilise umuntu ngokupheleleyo ngeSabatha na?
if a man receives circumcision on a Sabbath that the Law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with Me that I made a man all whole on a Sabbath?
24 Khawulani ukusola ngokubona kwamehlo kodwa yahlulelani ngokuqondileyo.”
Do not judge according to appearance, but the righteous judgment judge.”
25 Ngalesosikhathi abanye abantu baseJerusalema babuza bathi, “Kanti kasuye yini umuntu lo abafuna ukumbulala na?
Certain, therefore, of the Jerusalemites said, “Is this not He whom they are seeking to kill?
26 Nangu phela ekhuluma egcekeni kodwa kabatsho lutho kuye. Kambe iziphathamandla zingabe sezibone ukuthi nguye uKhristu na?
And behold, He speaks freely, and they say nothing to Him; did the rulers truly know that this is the Christ?
27 Kodwa siyakwazi thina lapha indoda le edabuka khona; nxa uKhristu esefika, kakho ozakwazi lapho avela khona.”
But this One—we have known where He is from; and the Christ, when He comes, no one knows where He is from.”
28 Kwathi uJesu elokhu esafundisa egumeni lethempeli, wamemeza wathi, “Yebo, liyangazi njalo liyakwazi lapho engivela khona. Kangizibuyelanga lapha kodwa lowo ongithumileyo uqinisile. Kalimazi
Jesus cried, therefore, in the temple, teaching and saying, “You have both known Me, and you have known from where I am; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you have not known;
29 kodwa mina ngiyamazi ngoba ngivela kuye, nguye ongithumileyo.”
and I have known Him, because I am from Him, and He sent Me.”
30 Besizwa lokhu bazama ukumbamba kodwa kakho owambeka isandla ngoba isikhathi sakhe sasingakafiki.
They were seeking, therefore, to seize Him, and no one laid the hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come,
31 Loba kunjalo, abanengi exukwini labantu bakholwa kuye. Bathi, “Nxa uKhristu angafika, kambe uzakwenza imimangaliso okwedlula umuntu lo?”
and many out of the multitude believed in Him and said, “The Christ—when He may come—will He do more signs than these that this One did?”
32 AbaFarisi bezwa abantu benyenyeza izinto ezinjalo ngaye. AbaFarisi labaphristi abakhulu basebethuma amanxusa ethempelini ukuba ayembopha.
The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning Him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers that they may take Him;
33 UJesu wathi, “Ngilani okwesikhathi esifitshane, besengihamba ngisiya kuye ongithumileyo.
Jesus, therefore, said to them, “Yet a short time I am with you, and I go away to Him who sent Me;
34 Lizangidinga kodwa lingangifumani; lalapho engikhona lingeke lifike.”
you will seek Me, and you will not find; and where I am, you are not able to come.”
35 AmaJuda abuzana athi, “Umuntu lo ufuna ukuya ngaphi lapho esingeke samfumana khona na? Uzakuya ebantwini bakithi abahlakazekileyo abahlala phakathi kwamaGrikhi, afundise amaGrikhi na?
The Jews, therefore, said among themselves, “To where is this One about to go that we will not find Him? Is He about to go to the dispersion of the Greeks, and to teach the Greeks?
36 Ubesitshoni esithi, ‘Lizangidinga, kodwa lingangifumani,’ njalo wathi, ‘Lapho engikhona lingeke lifike’?”
What is this word that He said, You will seek Me, and you will not find? And, Where I am, you are not able to come?”
37 Ngelanga lokucina elaliqakatheke kakhulu emkhosini, uJesu wasukuma wakhuluma ngelizwi elikhulu wathi, “Nxa ekhona owomileyo keze kimi azonatha.
And in the last, the great day of the celebration, Jesus stood and cried, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink;
38 Loba ngubani okholwa kimi njengoba uMbhalo utshilo, imifula yamanzi aphilayo izageleza ngaphakathi kwakhe.”
he who is believing in Me, according as the Writing said, Rivers of living water will flow out of his belly”;
39 Ngalokhu wayesitsho uMoya, okwakuzakuthi labo abakholwa kuye bamamukele ngesikhathi esizayo. Kuze kube yilesosikhathi uMoya wawungakathelwa ebantwini, njengoba uJesu wayengakakhazimuliswa.
and this He said of the Spirit, which those believing in Him were about to receive; for not yet was the Holy Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
40 Sebewazwile amazwi akhe abanye bathi, “Ngeqiniso umuntu lo nguye umphrofethi.”
Many, therefore, out of the multitude, having heard the word, said, “This is truly the Prophet”;
41 Abanye bathi, “Nguye uKhristu.” Abanye njalo babuza bathi, “Kungenzeka kanjani ukuthi uKhristu avele eGalile na?
others said, “This is the Christ”; and others said, “Why, does the Christ come out of Galilee?
42 UMbhalo kawutsho yini ukuthi uKhristu uzavela kusendo lukaDavida, eBhethilehema, umuzi lapho uDavida ayehlala khona.”
Did the Writing not say that out of the seed of David, and from Beth-Lehem—the village where David was—the Christ comes?”
43 Kanjalo abantu badabukana phakathi ngenxa kaJesu.
A division, therefore, arose among the multitude because of Him.
44 Abanye babefuna ukumbamba, kodwa kakho owambeka isandla.
And certain of them were willing to seize Him, but no one laid hands on Him;
45 Amanxusa ethempelini acina esebuyela kubaphristi abakhulu labaFarisi athi, “Kungani lingezanga laye?”
the officers came, therefore, to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?”
46 Amanxusa afakaza athi, “Kakho osewake wakhuluma njengaloyamuntu.”
The officers answered, “Never so spoke man—as this Man.”
47 AbaFarisi bakhwaza bathi, “Litsho ukuthi lani uselikhohlisile?
The Pharisees, therefore, answered them, “Have you also been led astray?
48 Ukhona na kubabusi loba kubaFarisi osebeke ithemba lakhe kuye?
Did anyone out of the rulers believe in Him? Or out of the Pharisees?
49 Hatshi! Kodwa inkunkuma yabantu le engazilutho ngezomthetho, iqalekisiwe.”
But this multitude, that is not knowing the Law, is accursed.”
50 UNikhodimasi owayeye kuJesu mandulo, owayengomunye wabo wabuza wathi,
Nicodemus says to them—he who came by night to Him—being one of them,
51 “Kanti umthetho wakithi uyamlahla na umuntu engaqalanga wabuzwa ukuthi yena uthini ngokwakhe?”
“Does our law judge the Man, if it may not hear from Him first, and know what He does?”
52 Baphendula bathi, “Lawe uvela eGalile yini? Ake ukudingisise, uzabona ukuthi kakulamphrofethi ongaphuma eGalile.” [
They answered and said to him, “Are you also out of Galilee? Search and see that a prophet has not risen out of Galilee”; [[
53 Ngakho bonke basuka baya emizini yabo.
and each one went on to his house, but Jesus went on to the Mount of Olives.
