1 Ekuseni kakhulu ngosuku lokuqala lweviki, kulokhu kusemnyama, uMariya Magadalini waya ethuneni wafumana ukuthi ilitshe laselisusiwe emlonyeni wethuna.
The first [day] of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, to the sepulcher, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulcher.
2 Ngakho wafika egijima kuSimoni Phethro elomunye umfundi, lowo uJesu ayemthanda, wathi, “Sebeyithethe iNkosi ethuneni, kodwa kasazi ukuthi bayise ngaphi!”
Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and saith to them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulcher, and we know not where they have laid him.
3 Yikho uPhethro lalowomfundi omunye baqonda ethuneni.
Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulcher.
4 Bobabili babegijima, kodwa lowo omunye umfundi wamtshiya uPhethro wayafika kuqala ethuneni.
So they ran both together: and the other disciple outran Peter, and came first to the sepulcher.
5 Wakhothama walunguza phakathi wabona amaqhele elineni ekhonapho, kodwa kangenanga.
And he stooping down, saw the linen cloths lying; yet he went not in.
6 Khonokho uSimoni Phethro owayengemuva kwakhe wafika wangena ethuneni. Wawabona amaqhele elineni ethe qekele khonapho,
Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulcher, and seeth the linen cloths lying;
7 kanye lelembu lokungcwaba elalithandele ikhanda likaJesu. Ilembu lelo laseligoqiwe lodwa lingekho kwawelineni.
And the napkin that was about his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
8 Ekucineni lowo omunye umfundi owayefike kuqala ethuneni laye wangena. Wabona, wakholwa.
Then went in also that other disciple who came first to the sepulcher, and he saw, and believed.
9 (Babelokhu bengezwisisi emibhalweni ukuthi uJesu wayemele avuke kwabafileyo.)
For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
10 Abafundi basebebuyela emizini yabo.
Then the disciples went away again to their own home.
11 Kodwa uMariya wasala emi ngaphandle kwethuna ekhala. Wathi elokhu ekhala wakhothama walunguza ethuneni
But Mary stood without at the sepulcher weeping: and as she wept she stooped down [to look] into the sepulcher,
12 wabona izingilosi ezimbili zigqoke okumhlophe zihlezi lapho isidumbu sikaJesu sasikade sikhona, enye ngasemakhanda, enye ngasezinyaweni.
And seeth two angels in white, sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
13 Zambuza zathi, “Mama, ukhalelani na?” Wathi, “Bayisusile iNkosi yami, kangazi ukuthi bayibeke ngaphi.”
And they say to her, Woman, why weepest thou? she saith to them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
14 Wasephenduka wabona uJesu emi khonapho, kodwa kananzelelanga ukuthi kwakunguJesu.
And when she had thus said, she turned herself about, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
15 Wathi, “Mama, ukhalelani na? Ufuna ubani na?” UMariya wayesithi kumbe ngumlimi, wasesithi, “Nkosi, nxa kunguwe omthetheyo, ngitshela ukuthi umbeke ngaphi ukuze ngiyemthatha.”
Jesus saith to her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith to him, Sir, if thou hast borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
16 UJesu wathi, “Mariya.” Waphendukela kuye wamemeza ngesiHebheru wathi, “Rabhoni!” (okutsho ukuthi “Mfundisi”).
Jesus saith to her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith to him, Rabboni, which is to say, Master.
17 UJesu wathi, “Ungangibambi, ngoba kangikabuyeli kuBaba. Kodwa hamba kubafowethu ubatshele uthi, ‘Sengibuyela kuBaba njalo uYihlo, kuNkulunkulu wami, uNkulunkulu wenu.’”
Jesus saith to her, Touch me not: for I have not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say to them, I ascend to my Father and your Father, and [to] my God and your God.
18 UMariya Magadalini waya kubafundi elombiko othi, “ngiyibonile iNkosi!” Njalo wabatshela ukuthi wayekutshilo lokhu kuye.
Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and [that] he had spoken these things to her.
19 Kusihlwa ngalolosuku lokuqala lweviki, abafundi babendawonye behluthulele iminyango ngoba besesaba amaJuda, uJesu wafika wema phakathi kwabo wathi, “Ukuthula kakube kini!”
Then the same day at evening, being the first [day] of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and saith to them, Peace [be] to you.
20 Esekutshilo lokhu wabatshengisa izandla zakhe lohlangothi lwakhe. Abafundi bathaba kakhulu beyibona iNkosi.
And when he had so said, he showed to them [his] hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad when they saw the Lord.
21 UJesu waphinda wathi, “Ukuthula kakube kini! Njengoba uBaba engithumile, lami ngiyalithuma.”
Then said Jesus to them again, Peace [be] to you: as [my] Father hath sent me, even so I send you.
22 Esitsho lokho wabaphefumulela wathi, “Yamukelani uMoya oNgcwele.
And when he had said this, he breathed on [them], and saith to them, Receive ye the Holy Spirit.
23 Nxa lithethelela loba ngubani izono zakhe, zizathethelelwa lezenu, kodwa nxa lingathetheleli ezabanye kazisoze zithethelelwe lezenu.”
Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted to them; [and] whose soever [sins] ye retain, they are retained.
24 UThomasi (othiwa nguDidimasi), omunye wabalitshumi lambili, wayengekho kwabanye abafundi uJesu aze afike.
But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
25 Kwathi lapho abanye abafundi bemtshela bathi “sesiyibonile iNkosi,” wathandabuza wathi, “Ngaphandle kokuthi ngibone amanxeba ezipikili ezandleni zakhe ngibeke umunwe wami emanxebeni ezipikili, ngifake isandla sami ehlangothini lwakhe, kangisoze ngikholwe.”
The other disciples therefore said to him, We have seen the Lord. But he said to them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26 Sekudlule iviki abafundi bakhe babesendlini njalo, loThomasi elabo. Njengoba iminyango yayihluthulelwe uJesu wafika wema phakathi kwabo wathi, “Ukuthula kakube kini!”
And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: [then] came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace [be] to you.
27 Wasesithi kuThomasi, “Faka umunwe wakho lapha; bona izandla zami. Yelula isandla sakho usibeke ehlangothini lwami. Yekela ukuthandabuza ukholwe.”
Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust [it] into my side; and be not faithless, but believing.
28 UThomasi wathi kuye, “Nkosi yami, Nkulunkulu wami!”
And Thomas answered and said to him, My Lord and my God.
29 UJesu wasemtshela wathi, “Usukholiwe ngoba usungibonile; babusisiwe labo abathi bengabonanga, kodwa sebekholiwe.”
Jesus saith to him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed [are] they that have not seen, and [yet] have believed.
30 UJesu wenza eminye imimangaliso eminengi abafundi bakhe bekhangele, kodwa engabhalwanga kule incwadi.
And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book.
31 Kodwa le ibhaliwe ukuze likholwe ukuthi uJesu unguKhristu, iNdodana kaNkulunkulu, njalo ukuze kuthi ngokukholwa libe lokuphila ngebizo lakhe.
But these are written, that ye may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye may have life through his name.
