UJohane 13
1 Kwakuyisikhathi lapho uMkhosi wePhasika ususondele. UJesu wayekwazi ukuthi isikhathi sokuthi asuke kulumhlaba aye kuYise sasesisondele. Wayehlezi ebathanda abakhe abasemhlabeni, lesi kwasekuyisikhathi sokubatshengisa ukujula kothando lwakhe.
Now before the feast of the Passover, Jesus, knowing that his time had come that he would depart from this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
2 Kwathi kudliwa ukudla kwakusihlwa, uSathane wayevele esemtshutshisile uJudasi Iskariyothi, indodana kaSimoni, ukuthi anikele uJesu.
And during the meal, the devil had already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him.
3 UJesu wayekwazi ukuthi uYise wayenikele zonke izinto emandleni akhe, lokuthi yena wayevela kuNkulunkulu njalo wayebuyela kuNkulunkulu,
Because he knew that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he came forth from God, and was going to God,
4 ngakho wasukuma ekudleni, wakhulula isembatho saphezulu, wabophela ithawulo ekhalweni lwakhe.
arose from the meal, and removed his outer garments. He took a towel, and wrapped a towel around his waist.
5 Ngemva kwalokho, wathela amanzi enditshini waseqalisa ukugezisa inyawo zabafundi bakhe, wazesula ngethawulo leyo ayezibophe ngayo.
Then he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
6 Wafika kuSimoni Phethro owathi kuye, “Nkosi, kambe wena nguwe ongagezisa inyawo zami na?”
Then he came to Simon Peter. He said to him, "Lord, do you wash my feet?"
7 UJesu waphendula wathi, “Kawukuzwisisi lokhu engikwenzayo khathesi kodwa uzakuzwisisa ngesikhathi esizayo.”
Jesus answered him, "You do not know what I am doing now, but you will understand later."
8 UPhethro wathi, “Hatshi, kawusoze lanini ugezise inyawo zami.” UJesu waphendula wathi, “Nxa ngingakugezisi kawulabudlelwano lami.” (aiōn g165)
Peter said to him, "You will never wash my feet." Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with me." (aiōn g165)
9 UPhethro waphendula wathi, “Nkosi, nxa kunjalo, kakungabi zinyawo zami zodwa kodwa lezandla zami kanye lekhanda lami!”
Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head."
10 UJesu waphendula wathi, “Lowo ogeze umzimba udinga ukugeza inyawo zakhe kuphela, ngoba umzimba wakhe wonke uhlanzekile. Njalo lina lihlanzekile loba nje kungayisini lonke elihlanzekileyo.”
Jesus said to him, "Someone who has bathed only needs to have his feet washed, but is completely clean. You are clean, but not all of you."
11 Ngoba wayemazi lowo owayezamnikela, yikho wathi kakusibo bonke ababehlanzekile.
For he knew him who would betray him, therefore he said, "You are not all clean."
12 Eseqedile ukubagezisa inyawo, wagqoka isembatho saphezulu wasebuyela endaweni yakhe. Wababuza wathi, “Liyakuzwisisa na esengilenzele khona?
So when he had washed their feet, put his outer garment back on, and sat down again, he said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you?
13 Lingibiza lithi ‘Mfundisi’ lokuthi ‘Nkosi,’ lisitsho liqondile, ngoba ngiyikho lokho.
You call me, 'Teacher' and 'Lord.' You say so correctly, for so I am.
14 Manje-ke njengoba mina, iNkosi yenu loMfundisi, sengigezise inyawo zenu, lani kumele ligezisane inyawo.
If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.
15 Sengilenzele isibonelo ukuthi lenze njengoba ngilenzele mina.
For I have given you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.
16 Ngempela ngiqinisile ngithi kini kakulanceku enkulu kulenkosi yayo, njalo isithunywa kasisikhulu kulalowo osithumileyo.
Truly, truly, I tell you, a servant is not greater than his master, neither one who is sent greater than he who sent him.
17 Lingaze lizazi lezizinto lizabusiswa nxa lizenza.”
If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
18 “Kangikhulumi ngani lonke; ngiyabazi labo esengibakhethile. Kodwa lokhu kuyikugcwalisa umbhalo othi: ‘Lowo obesidla lami isinkwa usengihlamukele.’
I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen. But that the Scripture may be fulfilled, 'He who ate my bread has lifted up his heel against me.'
19 Ngilazisa khathesi kungakenzakali, ukwenzela ukuthi lapho sekusenzakala, likholwe ukuthi ngiNguye.
I am telling you this now before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe that I am he.
20 Ngilitshela iqiniso ukuthi lowo owamukela loba ngubani engimthumayo wamukela mina njalo lowo owamukela mina wamukela lowo ongithumileyo.”
Truly, truly, I tell you, he who receives whomever I send, receives me; and he who receives me, receives him who sent me."
21 UJesu esatsho lokhu wakhathazeka kakhulu wafakaza wathi, “Ngilitshela iqiniso ukuthi omunye wenu uzanginikela.”
When Jesus had said this, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, "Truly, truly, I tell you that one of you will betray me."
22 Abafundi bakhe bakhangelana bedidekile ukuthi kambe angabe esitsho wuphi kubo.
The disciples looked at one another, perplexed about whom he spoke.
23 Omunye wabo owayethandwa nguJesu wayeyeme etafuleni eduzane laye.
One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining against Jesus' chest.
24 USimoni Phethro wasemqhweba lowomfundi wathi kuye, “Mbuze ukuthi utsho bani.”
Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to inquire who it was he was talking about.
25 Waseseyama kuJesu wambuza wathi, “Nkosi, ngubani?”
He, leaning back, as he was, on Jesus' chest, asked him, "Lord, who is it?"
26 UJesu waphendula wathi, “Kungulowo engizamupha ucezu lwesinkwa nxa sengisitshebile emganwini.” Kwathi esesitshebile isinkwa wasiqhubela uJudasi Iskariyothi, indodana kaSimoni.
Jesus therefore answered, "It is he to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it." So when he had dipped the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.
27 Wonela ukusithatha isinkwa uJudasi uSathane wasengena kuye. UJesu wathi kuye, “Lokho osufuna ukukwenza, kwenze masinyane.”
After the piece of bread, then Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said to him, "What you do, do quickly."
28 Kodwa kakho etafuleni owazwisisayo ukuthi kungani uJesu watsho njalo kuye.
Now none of those reclining knew why he said this to him.
29 Ngenxa yokuthi uJudasi nguye owayephatha imali, abanye bacabanga ukuthi uJesu wayemtshela ukuthi athenge lokho okwakuzafuneka emkhosini kumbe ukuthi anike okuthile kwabampofu.
For some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus said to him, "Buy what things we need for the feast," or that he should give something to the poor.
30 Wonela ukuthi athathe isinkwa waphuma. Kwasekusebusuku.
Therefore, having received the piece of bread, he went out immediately; and it was night.
31 Esehambile uJesu wathi, “Khathesi iNdodana yoMuntu isikhazimulisiwe njalo uNkulunkulu ukhazimulisiwe kuyo.
When he had gone out, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him.
32 Nxa uNkulunkulu ekhazimulisiwe kuyo, uNkulunkulu laye uzayikhazimulisa iNdodana kuye njalo uzayikhazimulisa masinyane.
If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him at once.
33 Bantwabami, ngizakuba lani okwesikhatshana esincane. Lizangidinga kodwa njengoba ngawatshela amaJuda, lani sengilitshela khathesi ukuthi: Lapho engiyakhona, alingeke lifike.
Little children, I will be with you a little while longer. You will seek me, and as I said to the Jewish leaders, 'Where I am going, you cannot come,' so now I tell you.
34 Ngilinika umlayo omutsha: Thandanani. Kumele lithandane njengoba lami ngilithandile.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also must love one another.
35 Bonke abantu bazakwazi ukuthi lingabafundi bami nxa lithandana.”
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."
36 USimoni Phethro wambuza wathi, “Nkosi, kanti uya ngaphi na?” UJesu waphendula wathi, “Lapho engiyakhona ungazake ungilandele khathesi kodwa uzangilandela ngesikhathi esizayo.”
Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus answered, "Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow afterwards."
37 Wabuza uPhethro wathi, “Nkosi, kungani ngingahle ngikulandele khathesi? Ngizanikela ukuphila kwami kuwe.”
Peter said to him, "Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you."
38 UJesu wasemphendula wathi, “Kambe uzinikele ukuphila kwakho ngenxa yami? Ngiqinisile ngithi uzangiphika kathathu iqhude lingakakhali!”
Jesus answered him, "Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly, I tell you, the rooster won't crow until you have denied me three times.
