1 Ekuqaleni wayekhona uLizwi, uLizwi wayeloNkulunkulu, njalo uLizwi wayenguNkulunkulu.
IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word himself was with Aloha, and Aloha was the Word himself.
2 WayeloNkulunkulu ekuqaleni.
This was in the beginning with Aloha.
3 Izinto zonke zenziwa ngaye; ngaphandle kwakhe kube akukho okwenziwayo.
Every thing by his hand was made; and without him also was not one thing made that was made.
4 Kwakukhona ukuphila kuye, lokho kuphila kwakuyikukhanya kwabantu.
In him was life, and the life is the light of the sons of man;
5 Ukukhanya kukhanya emnyameni, kodwa umnyama awukakuzwisisi.
and the Light himself in the darkness shineth, and the darkness perceived him not.
6 Kwafika umuntu ethunywe nguNkulunkulu, ibizo lakhe wayenguJohane.
There was a man who was sent from Aloha, his name (was) Juchanon.
7 Weza njengomfakazi ezoqinisa mayelana lalokho kukhanya ukuze kuthi ngaye bonke abantu bakholwe.
He came for the testimony, to testify concerning the Light, that all men might believe through his ministry.
8 Yena qobo lwakhe wayengesi lokho kukhanya; weza nje njengomfakazi wokukhanya lokho.
He was not the Light himself, but came to testify concerning the Light.
9 Ukukhanya okuliqiniso okunika ukukhanya emuntwini wonke kwakusiza emhlabeni.
For that was the true Light that enlighteneth every man who cometh into the world.
10 Wayesemhlabeni, kodwa lanxa umhlaba wenziwa ngaye, umhlaba kawumazanga.
In the world was he, and the world by his hand had been made, and the world knew him not.
11 Weza kulokho okwakungokwakhe, kodwa khona kakumemukelanga.
He came to his own, and his own received him not.
12 Ikanti kulabo bonke abamamukelayo, kulabo abakholwayo ebizweni lakhe, wabapha ilungelo lokuba ngabantwana bakaNkulunkulu,
But they who received him, he gave to them power, that the sons of Aloha they should become, to those who believe in his name.
13 abantwana abangazalwanga ngokwemvelo, kumbe ngokukhetha komuntu, loba ngokufuna kwendoda kodwa bezelwe nguNkulunkulu.
These, not from blood, nor from the will of the flesh, nor from the will of man, but from Aloha, are born.
14 ULizwi waba yinyama, wahlala phakathi kwethu. Siyibonile inkazimulo yakhe; inkazimulo yeNdodana eyiyo yodwa, eyavela kuYise, igcwele umusa leqiniso.
And the Word flesh was made, and tabernacled with us; and we saw his glory, the glory as of the one-begotten who (was) from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 UJohane wafakaza ngayo. Wamemeza esithi, “Lo nguye engangikhuluma ngaye ngisithi, ‘Lowo oza ngemva kwami usengedlule ngoba wayevele ephambi kwami.’”
Juchanon testified concerning him, and cried, and said, This is he of whom I said, that he cometh after me, and was before me, because he is anterior to me.
16 Ngenxa yokujula komusa wakhe sonke sesamukele umusa emuseni esasivele siwuphiwe.
And from his fulness we all have received, and grace for grace.
17 Ngoba umthetho walethwa ngoMosi; umusa leqiniso kweza ngoJesu Khristu.
For the law by the hand of Musha was given; but the truth and the grace were by Jeshu Meshicha.
18 Kakho osewake wambona uNkulunkulu, kodwa iNdodana eyiyo yodwa, yona enguNkulunkulu njalo eseceleni eduze kukaYise, isimenze waziwa.
ALOHA no man hath ever seen: the one-begotten God, he who is in the bosom of his Father, he hath declared him.
19 Lobu yibo ubufakazi bukaJohane lapho abakhokheli bamaJuda aseJerusalema abathuma khona abaphristi labaLevi ukuyambuza ukuthi wayengubani.
And this was the testimony of Juchanon, when the Jihudoyee sent to him from Urishlem priests and Levoyee to demand of him, Who art thou?
20 Kehlulekanga ukuzichaza, kodwa wazichaza ekhululekile wathi, “Kangisuye uKhristu.”
And he confessed, and denied not, but confessed, I am not the Meshicha.
21 Bambuza bathi, “Pho ungubani na? Ungu-Elija yini?” Wathi, “Kangisuye.” “Ungumphrofethi na?” Waphendula wathi, “Hatshi.”
And they asked him again, What then? art thou Elia? And he said, I am not. Art thou the Prophet? And he said, No.
22 Bacina ngokuthi, “Ungubani? Siphe impendulo esizayisa kulabo abasithumileyo. Uzibiza ngokuthi ungubani na?”
And they said to him, And who art thou? that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
23 UJohane wabaphendula ngamazwi ka-Isaya umphrofethi wathi, “Ngiyilizwi lalowo omemezayo enkangala lisithi, ‘Lungiselani iNkosi indlela iqonde.’”
He saith, I am the voice which crieth in the wilderness, Make plain the way of the Lord, as said Eshaia the prophet.
24 Kwasekusithi abaFarisi ababethunyiwe
But they who were sent were from the Pharishee.
25 bambuza bathi, “Kungani pho ubhaphathiza nxa ungasuye uKhristu, kumbe u-Elija loba umphrofethi na?”
And they demanded and said to him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Meshicha, nor Elia, nor the Prophet?
26 UJohane waphendula wathi, “Mina ngibhaphathiza ngamanzi, kodwa phakathi kwenu kumi elingamaziyo.
Juchanon answered and said to them, I baptize you with waters; but he standeth among you whom you know not:
27 Nguye lowo ozayo ngemva kwami, mina engingafanelanga ukuthukulula imichilo yamanyathela akhe.”
he it is who cometh after me, and he was before me; he, the latchets of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose.
28 Konke lokhu kwenzeka eBhethani ngaphetsheya kweJodani lapho uJohane ayebhaphathiza khona.
These things were done in Bethania, at the passage of the Jurdan, where Juchanon was baptizing.
29 Ngelanga elilandelayo uJohane wabona uJesu esiza kuye wathi, “Khangelani, nanti iWundlu likaNkulunkulu elisusa isono somhlaba!
AND the day after, Juchanon seeth Jeshu, who was coming to him; and he said, Behold the Lamb of Aloha, who beareth the sin of the world!
30 Nguye lo engangimutsho ngize ngithi, ‘Umuntu ozayo ngemva kwami usengedlule ngoba wayevele ephambi kwami.’
This is he concerning whom I said, After me cometh a man, and he was before me, because he is anterior to me.
31 Mina ngokwami bengingamazi, kodwa okwenze ngeza ngibhaphathiza ngamanzi kwakuyikwenzela ukuthi abonakaliswe ku-Israyeli.”
And I knew him not, but that he should be made known unto Isroel, therefore have I come with waters to baptize.
32 UJohane waseletha lobubufakazi: “Ngabona uMoya esehla evela ezulwini enjengejuba wahlala phezu kwakhe.
And Juchanon testified and said, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven as a dove, and it remained upon him.
33 Lami uqobo lwami ngangingamazi, kodwa lowo owangithumayo ukubhaphathiza ngamanzi wathi, ‘Lowomuntu ozabona uMoya usehla uhlala kuye nguye kanye ozabhaphathiza ngoMoya oNgcwele.’
And I knew him not: but he who sent me to baptize with water, he said to me, He upon whom thou seest the Spirit descend and remain, this baptizeth with the Spirit of Holiness:
34 Sengibonile yikho sengifakaza ukuthi lo ungoKhethiweyo kaNkulunkulu.”
and I saw, and bare witness that this is the Son of Aloha
35 Ngelanga elilandelayo uJohane wayekhonapho, elabafundi bakhe ababili.
And the day after Juchanon stood, and two of his disciples;
36 Wathi ebona uJesu esedlula lapho wathi, “Khangelani, nanti iWundlu likaNkulunkulu!”
and, contemplating Jeshu as he walked, he said, Behold the Lamb of Aloha!
37 Abafundi ababili labo bathi bekuzwa lokhu basebelandela uJesu.
And his two disciples heard him as he spake, and they went after Jeshu.
38 UJesu wathi enyemukula wababona bemlandela, wababuza wathi, “Lifunani na?” Bathi, “Rabi” (okutsho ukuthi “Mfundisi”), “uhlala ngaphi?”
And Jeshu turned (himself), and saw them coming after him, and said to them, Whom seek you? They say to him, Raban, where dwellest thou?
39 Waphendula wathi, “Wozani, lizabona.” Ngakho bahamba bayabona lapho ayehlala khona, batshona laye mhlalokho. Kwakungaba lihola letshumi.
He saith to them, Come and see. And they went and saw where he dwelt; and they were with him that day: and it was about the tenth hour.
40 U-Andreya, umfowabo kaSimoni Phethro wayengomunye wababili abezwayo okwakukhulunywa nguJohane njalo abayibo abalandela uJesu.
Now one of those who heard Juchanon and went after Jeshu, was Andreas, the brother of Shemun.
41 Into yokuqala ayenzayo u-Andreya yikudinga umfowabo uSimoni wamtshela wathi, “Sesimfumene uMesiya” (okutsho uKhristu).
This saw first Shemun his brother, and said to him, We have found the Meshicha;
42 Wasemletha kuJesu. UJesu wamkhangela wathi, “UnguSimoni indodana kaJohane. Usuzathiwa unguKhefasi” (okuchasiswa ngokuthi, nguPhethro).
and he brought him to Jeshu. And Jeshu saw him, and said, Thou art Shemun bar Jona; thou shalt be called Kipha.
43 Ngelanga elilandelayo uJesu wafuna ukusuka aye eGalile. Wabona uFiliphu wathi kuye, “Ngilandela.”
AND the day following Jeshu willed to go forth into Galila. And he found Philipos, and said to him, Come after me.
44 UFiliphu wayengowedolobheni lase-Bhethisayida, njengo-Andreya loPhethro.
Now Philipos was from Beth-tsaida, from the city of Andreas and of Shemun.
45 UFiliphu wadinga uNathaneli wamtshela wathi, “Sesimfumene lowo uMosi aloba ngaye eMthethweni, njalo abaphrofethi labo abaloba ngaye, uJesu waseNazaretha, indodana kaJosefa.”
Philipos found Nathanael, and said to him, Him of whom Musha in the law, and the prophets, did write we have found, (and) that Jeshu (is) he, the son of Jauseph who is from Natsrath.
46 UNathaneli wabuza wathi, “ENazaretha! Kulolutho oluhle olungavela khona na?” UFiliphu wathi, “Woza uzebona.”
Saith to him Nathanael, From Natsrath can any good thing be? Philipos saith to him, Come and see.
47 Kwathi uJesu ebona uNathaneli eqhamuka laphaya wathi ngaye, “Nangu umʼIsrayeli oqotho, okungekho nkohliso kuye.”
And Jeshu saw Nathanael as he was coming to him, and said of him, Behold truly a son of Isroel who hath no guile in him.
48 UNathaneli wambuza wathi, “Ungazela ngaphi na?” UJesu waphendula wathi, “Ngikubonile usahlezi ngaphansi kwesihlahla somkhiwa uFiliphu engakakubizi.”
Nathanael saith to him, Whence knowest thou me? Jeshu saith to him, While yet Philipos had not called thee, while thou wast under the fig-tree, I saw thee.
49 UNathaneli wasefakaza wathi, “Rabi, uyindodana kaNkulunkulu; uyiNkosi ka-Israyeli.”
Nathanael answered and said to him, Rabi, thou art the Son of Aloha himself, thou art the very King of Isroel.
50 UJesu wathi, “Ukholwa ngoba ngithe ngikubone ngaphansi kwesihlahla somkhiwa. Usazobona izinto ezinkulu kulalokho.”
Jeshu saith to him, Upon my telling thee that I saw thee under the fig-tree, believest thou? Greater things than these thou shalt see.
51 Waphinda wengeza wathi, “Ngikutshela iqiniso, uzabona izulu livuleka, lezingilosi zikaNkulunkulu zikhwela zisehlela eNdodaneni yoMuntu.”
He saith to him, Amen, amen, I say to you, Hereafter you shall see the heavens opened, and the angels of Aloha ascending and descending unto the Son of man.
