1 “Ungambamba na uLeviyathani ngewuka loba uhitshele ulimi lwakhe ngentambo na?
Canst thou draw out leviathan with a hook? or his tongue with a cord [which] thou lettest down?
2 Ungawufaka umkhala yini emakhaleni akhe kumbe ubhoboze umhlathi wakhe ngewuka na?
Canst thou put a hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?
3 Uzabe elokhu ekuncenga yini ukuthi umzwele? Uzakhuluma lawe ngamazwi apholileyo yini?
Will he make many supplications to thee? will he speak soft [words] to thee?
4 Uzakwenza isivumelwano lawe na ukuthi abe yisichaka sakho kokuphela?
Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?
5 Ungamenza abe yisifuyo sokudlalisa njengenyoni na kumbe umfake umkhungo adlaliswe ngamantombazana na?
Wilt thou play with him as [with] a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
6 Abathengi bazabhejelana ngentengo yakhe na? Bazakwahlukaniselana ngaye na abathengi?
Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants.
7 Ungasibhoboza yini isikhumba sakhe ngenhlendla loba ikhanda lakhe ngemikhonto yokuciba inhlanzi?
Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?
8 Ungabeka isandla phezu kwakhe, uzahlala ukukhumbula ukutshukana kwenu ungaphindi futhi!
Lay thy hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
9 Ukucabanga ukuthi ungamehlula kuyize; ukumbona nje kodwa kuqeda amandla.
Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not [one] be cast down even at the sight of him?
10 Kakho ongaba lesibindi sokuthi alwe laye. Pho ngubani ongamelana lami na?
None [is so] fierce that he dare rouse him: who then is able to stand before me?
11 Ngubani engilomlandu kuye othi kangihlawule na? Konke okukhona ngaphansi kwezulu ngokwami.
Who hath first benefited me, that I should repay [him]? [whatever is] under the whole heaven is mine.
12 Kangisoze ngikhawule ukubabaza izitho zakhe, amandla akhe langesimo sakhe esihle.
I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.
13 Ngubani ongaxebula isikhumba sakhe na? Ngubani ongasondela kuye ngamatomu na?
Who can discover the face of his garment? [or] who can come [to him] with his double bridle?
14 Ngubani ongaqunga isibindi avule iminyango yomlomo wakhe, ogqagqelwe zingavula zamazinyo na?
Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth [are] terrible around.
15 Umhlane wakhe ulezinhlu zamahawu abophene silikici;
[His] scales [are his] pride, shut together [as with] a close seal.
16 yilelo lithe mba kwelinye okuthi kakungeni moya phakathi kwawo.
One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
17 Anamathelene ndawonye; abambene okokuthi angeke ehlukaniswe.
They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.
18 Ukuthimula kwakhe kukhupha inhlansi zomlilo; amehlo akhe anjengemisebe yokusa.
His sneezings flash light, and his eyes [are] like the eyelids of the morning.
19 Amalangabi omlilo alavuka emlonyeni wakhe; inhlansi zomlilo ziqhatsha ziphuma khona.
Out of his mouth go burning lamps, [and] sparks of fire dart forth.
20 Intuthu ithunqa iphuma emakhaleni akhe kungathi isuka embizeni ebilayo phezu komlilo wemihlanga.
Out of his nostrils issueth smoke, as [out] of a seething pot or caldron.
21 Ukuphefumula kwakhe kulumathisa amalahle, njalo kulavuka amalangabi emlonyeni wakhe.
His breath kindleth coals, and a flame issueth from his mouth.
22 Amandla akhe asentanyeni yakhe; okuphambi kwakhe kuhle kuphele amandla.
In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.
23 Amavinqo enyama yakhe abambene nki; aqine nko kawehlukaniseki.
The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.
24 Isifuba sakhe silukhuni njengelitshe, siqine njengengaphansi kwembokodo.
His heart is as firm as a stone; yes, as hard as a piece of the nether [millstone].
25 Uthi nxa ephakama kwesabe amaqhawe ngokwawo; atshede ebalekela ukubhula komsila wakhe.
When he raiseth himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.
26 Inkemba leyo emfikelayo kayenzi lutho, kumbe umkhonto, loba umtshoko loba isijula.
The sword of him that attacketh him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.
27 Insimbi uyithatha njengotshani lethusi kungathi luluthi olubolileyo.
He esteemeth iron as straw, [and] brass as rotten wood.
28 Imitshoko kayimenzi abaleke; lamatshe esavutha anjengomule kuye.
The arrow cannot make him flee: sling-stones are turned with him into stubble.
29 Induku kuye ingumuca wotshani; uyahleka esizwa ukukhenceza komdikadika.
Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.
30 Ingaphansi yomzimba wakhe injengendengezi ezibukhali, itshiya umzila odakeni kungathi yisileyi esizunguzekayo.
Sharp stones [are] under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.
31 Udunga inziki zamanzi ayabuke njengembiza enkulu ibila, aluvube ulwandle njengembiza yamagcobo.
He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.
32 Ngemva kwakhe utshiya umzila okhazimulayo; umuntu angazathi ulwandle luloboya obumhlophe.
He maketh a path to shine after him; [one] would think the deep [to be] hoary.
33 Kakukho emhlabeni okulingana laye, isidalwa esingesabiyo.
Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.
34 Ubakhangelela phansi bonke abathi bazithembile; uyinkosi phezu kwabo bonke abazigqajayo.”
He beholdeth all high [things]: he [is] a king over all the children of pride.
