1 Wonke umphristi omkhulu ukhethwa ebantwini abekwe ukuba abamele ezindabeni ezimayelana loNkulunkulu, ukunikela izipho lemihlatshelo yezono.
For every high-priest taken from among men, is appointed for the sake of men in things relating to God, that he may offer gifts and sacrifices for sins:
2 Ulakho ukubaphatha ngesineke labo abangaziyo abadukayo, njengoba laye uqobo ephethwe yikuba buthakathaka.
who can have due compassion on the ignorant and those that are going astray; seeing he himself also is surrounded with infirmity:
3 Yikho-nje kumele anikele imihlatshelo yezono zakhe kanye leyezono zabantu.
and for this reason he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer sacrifice for sins.
4 Kakho ozethesa udumo lolu phezu kwakhe; kumele abizwe nguNkulunkulu njengo-Aroni.
And no one taketh this honor to himself, but he that is called by God, as Aaron was.
5 Ngakho loKhristu kazethesanga udumo lokuba ngumphristi omkhulu. Kodwa uNkulunkulu wathi kuye, “Wena uyiNdodana yami; lamuhla sengibe nguYihlo.”
So also Christ did not glorify himself to be made an high-priest; but He that said unto Him, "Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee."
6 Njalo kwenye indawo uthi, “Wena ungumphristi kuze kube nini lanini, emkhondweni kaMelikhizedekhi.” (aiōn g165)
As He saith also in another place, "Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec." (aiōn g165)
7 Ngensuku zokuphila kukaJesu emhlabeni, wakhuleka wacela ngokukhala kakhulu langezinyembezi kuye lowo owayengamphephisa ekufeni njalo wezwakala ngenxa yokuzehlisa kwakhe okuhloniphekayo.
Who in the days of his flesh, offered prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears, to Him that was able to save Him from death, and was heard in what He feared;
8 Lanxa wayeyindodana wafunda ukulalela kulokhu ahlupheka ngakho,
but though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered: and being thus perfected,
9 kwathi lapho esephelelisiwe, waba ngumthombo wokusindiswa okulaphakade wabo bonke abamlalelayo (aiōnios g166)
He became the author of eternal salvation to all that obey Him: (aiōnios g166)
10 wasekhethwa nguNkulunkulu ukuba abe ngumphristi omkhulu, emkhondweni kaMelikhizedekhi.
having been declared by God an high-priest after the order of Melchisedec.
11 Kunengi esingakutsho ngalokho kodwa kunzima ukuchaza ngoba liyaphuza ukufunda.
Concerning whom we have much to say and difficult to be explained, since ye are become dull of hearing.
12 Ngeqiniso, lanxa ngalesisikhathi lifanele ukuba ngabafundisayo, liswela omunye ukuba alifundise amaqiniso okuqala elizwi likaNkulunkulu. Lifuna uchago, hatshi ukudla okuqinileyo!
For whereas ye ought for the time to be teachers of others, ye have need again of some one to teach you the first rudiments of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk and not of solid food.
13 Lowo ophila ngochago, ulokhu elusane, kayazi imfundiso emayelana lokulunga.
For every one that wanteth milk, is unacquainted with the doctrine of justification; for he is an infant:
14 Kodwa ukudla okuqinileyo ngokwabakhulileyo asebazifundisa ukwehlukanisa okuhle kokubi.
but firm food is for persons come to age, who by habit have their senses exercised to a discernment both of good and evil.
