UDutheronomi 14

1 “Lingabantwana bakaThixo uNkulunkulu wenu. Lingabozisika loba liphuce amakhanda enu lizilela abafileyo,

“You [are] sons of your God YHWH; you do not cut yourselves, nor make baldness between your eyes for the dead;

2 ngoba lingabantu abangcwele kuThixo uNkulunkulu wenu. Ebantwini bonke abasemhlabeni, uThixo ulikhethile lina ukuthi libe ngabantu bakhe abaligugu.

for you [are] a holy people to your God YHWH, and YHWH has fixed on you to be to Him for a people, a peculiar treasure, out of all the peoples who [are] on the face of the ground.

3 Lingadli loba kuyini okunengisayo.

You do not eat any abomination;

4 Nanzi izinyamazana elingazidla: inkomo, imvu, imbuzi,

this [is] the beast which you eat: ox, lamb of the sheep, or kid of the goats,

5 umziki, impala, umziki obomvu, imbuzi yeganga, imbuzi mawa, umtshwayeli lemvu yentaba.

deer, and roe, and fallow deer, and wild goat, and ibex, and antelope, and zemer;

6 Lingadla zonke izinyamazana ezilenklagu ezivulekileyo lezentshisayo.

and every beast dividing the hoof, and cleaving the cleft into two hooves, bringing up the cud, among the beasts—you eat it.

7 Kodwa-ke kulezo ezilenklagu ezivulekileyo loba lezo ezentshisayo zilani lingadli ikamela, umvundla loba imbila. Zingcolile kini ngokomkhuba.

Only, this you do not eat, of those bringing up the cud, and of those dividing the cloven hoof: the camel, and the hare, and the hyrax, for they are bringing up the cud, but the hoof has not divided—they [are] unclean to you;

8 Ingulube layo ayihlanzekanga; lanxa ilenklagu ezivulekileyo kayentshisi. Lingabokudla inyama yazo, lingathinti lezidumbu zazo.

and the sow, for it is dividing the hoof, and not [bringing] up the cud—it [is] unclean to you; you do not eat of their flesh, and you do not come against their carcass.

9 Kuzozonke izidalwa ezihlala emanzini, lingadla zonke lezo ezilempiko lamaxolo.

This you eat of all which [are] in the waters: anything that has fins and scales you eat;

10 Kodwa konke lokho okungelampiko lamaxolo akumelanga likudle; kungcolile kini.

and anything which does not have fins and scales you do not eat—it [is] unclean to you.

11 Lingadla loba yiphi inyoni ehlanzekileyo.

Any clean bird you eat;

12 Kodwa lezi lingazidli: ukhozi, ilinqe elimnyama,

and these [are] they of which you do not eat: the eagle, and the bearded vulture, and the osprey,

13 uhelwane olubomvu, uhelwane olumnyama, loba yiwuphi umhlobo womzwazwa

and the kite, and the falcon, and the vulture after its kind,

14 loba yiphi imihlobo yamawabayi,

and every raven after its kind;

15 isikhova esilesicholo, ingabuzane, idada lolwandle, loba wuphi umhlobo wokhozi,

and the ostrich, and the nightjar [[or male ostrich]], and the seagull, and the hawk after its kind;

16 umandukulo, isikhova esikhulu, isikhova esimhlophe,

the little owl, and the great owl, and the waterhen,

17 isikhova senkangala, ukhozi lwenhlanzi, itshayamanzi,

and the pelican, and the Egyptian vulture, and the cormorant,

18 ingabuzane, lawuphi umhlobo welanda, imvenduna lomalulwane.

and the stork, and the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe, and the bat.

19 Zonke izibungu eziphaphayo zingcolile kini; lingabozidla.

And every teeming thing which is flying—it [is] unclean to you; they are not eaten;

20 Kodwa konke okulempiko okuhlanzekileyo kudleni.

any clean bird you eat.

21 Lingabokudla ingcuba. Lingakunika loba ngubani owezizweni ohlezi loba kukuliphi phakathi kwamadolobho enu, yena angakudla, ulakho njalo ukuthi angathengisela omunye laye owezizweni. Kodwa lina lingabantu abangcwele kuThixo uNkulunkulu wenu. Lingapheki izinyane lembuzi ngochago lukanina.”

You do not eat of any carcass; you give it to the sojourner who [is] within your gates, and he has eaten it; or sell [it] to a stranger; for you [are] a holy people to your God YHWH. You do not boil a kid in its mother’s milk.

22 “Wobani leqiniso ukuthi libeka eceleni lokhu okuyingxenye eyodwa yetshumi yesivuno somnyaka.

You certainly tithe all the increase of your seed which the field is bringing forth year by year;

23 Dlanini okwetshumi kwamabele enu, iwayini elitsha lamafutha, kanye lamazibulo emihlambi yenkomo zenu lawezimvu emehlweni kaThixo uNkulunkulu wenu endaweni azalikhethela yona ukuba ibe leBizo lakhe, ukuze lifunde ukumphakamisa uThixo uNkulunkulu wenu ngezikhathi zonke.

and you have eaten before your God YHWH, in the place where He chooses to cause His Name to dwell, the tithe of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the firstlings of your herd, and of your flock, so that you learn to fear your God YHWH [for] all the days.

24 Kodwa nxa leyondawo ikhatshana kakhulu lina libusisiwe nguThixo uNkulunkulu wenu njalo lingenelisi ukuthwala okwetshumi kwenu (ngenxa yokuthi lapho uThixo akhethe ukubeka khona iBizo lakhe kukhatshana kakhulu),

And when the way is too much for you, that you are not able to carry it—when the place is too far off from you which your God YHWH chooses to put His Name there, when your God YHWH blesses you—

25 thengisani okwetshumi kwenu ngesiliva, libe selithatha lihambe lesiliva liye endaweni leyo ezabe ikhethwe nguThixo uNkulunkulu wenu.

then you have given [it] in money, and have bound up the money in your hand, and gone to the place on which your God YHWH fixes;

26 Sebenzisani isiliva lithenge ngaso loba yini elifuna ukuyithenga: inkomo, izimvu, iwayini loba kuyini elikufunayo. Ngakho lina kanye labendlu yenu lizakudla khonapho phambi kukaThixo uNkulunkulu wenu njalo libe lokujabula.

and you have given the money for anything which your soul desires, for oxen, and for sheep, and for wine, and for strong drink, and for anything which your soul asks for, and you have eaten before your God YHWH there, and you have rejoiced, you and your house.

27 Njalo lingakhohlwa abaLevi abahlala emadolobheni enu, ngoba abalaso isabelo esingesabo njalo abaphiwanga ilifa.

As for the Levite who [is] within your gates, you do not forsake him, for he has no portion and inheritance with you.

28 Ekupheleni kweminyaka emithathu, lethani okwetshumi kwesivuno salowomnyaka likugcine emadolobheni enu,

At the end of three years you bring out all the tithe of your increase in that year, and have placed [it] within your gates;

29 yikho kuzakuthi abaLevi (bona abangelasabelo loba ilifa elingelabo) kanye labezizweni, izintandane ezingelaboyise labafelokazi abahlala emadolobheni enu beze labo bazokudla basuthe, njalo kuze kuthi uThixo uNkulunkulu wenu alibusise kuyo yonke imisebenzi yezandla zenu.”

and the Levite has come in—for he has no part and inheritance with you—and the sojourner, and the fatherless, and the widow, who [are] within your gates, and they have eaten, and been satisfied, so that your God YHWH blesses you in all the work of your hand which you do.”
