1 Ngemva kwalokho uPhawuli wasuka e-Athene waya eKhorinte.
After these things, Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth.
2 Khonapho wahlangana lomJuda owayethiwa ngu-Akhwila, owasePhontusi ngomdabuko, owayesanda kufika lapho evele e-Ithali lomkakhe uPhrisila ngoba uKlawudiyasi wayekhuphe isinqumo sokuthi amaJuda wonke aphume eRoma. UPhawuli wahamba wayababona,
And having found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, and Priscilla his wife, (because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome, ) he came to them;
3 kwathi ngoba engumenzi wamathente njengabo wasehlala labo, wasebenza labo.
and because he was of the same trade, he abode with them, and worked; for they were tent-makers by trade.
4 NgamaSabatha wonke wayesiya esinagogweni ebonisana lamaJuda lamaGrikhi ezama ukuwaphendula.
And he discoursed in the synagogue every sabbath, and endeavored to persuade both Jews and Greeks.
5 Kwathi uSayilasi loThimothi sebefikile bevela eMasedoniya, uPhawuli wasenikela isikhathi sakhe sonke ekutshumayeleni kuphela efakaza kumaJuda ukuthi uJesu wayenguKhristu.
And when both Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was wholly engaged in the word, testifying to the Jews, that Jesus was the Christ.
6 Kodwa kwathi lapho amaJuda emphikisa njalo emchothoza, wathintitha izembatho zakhe phambi kwawo wathi, “Igazi lenu kalibe phezu kwamakhanda enu! Mina sengiwenzile owami umlandu. Kusukela manje sengisiya kwabeZizwe.”
And when they set themselves against him, and reviled, he shook his garments, and said to them, Your blood be upon your own heads! I am clean; from this time I will go to the gentiles.
7 UPhawuli wasesuka esinagogweni waya endlini eseceleni, eyayingekaThithu Justusi, owayekhonza uNkulunkulu.
And he departed thence, and went to the house of a certain man, named Justus, a worshipper of God, whose house was very near the synagogue.
8 UKhrispasi, umphathi wesinagogu, kanye lendlu yakhe yonke bakholwa eNkosini; kwathi labanengi bamaKhorinte abamuzwayo bakholwa, babhaphathizwa.
And Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians upon hearing believed, and were baptized.
9 Ngobunye ubusuku iNkosi yakhuluma kuPhawuli ngombono yathi: “Ungesabi; qhubeka utshumayela, ungathuli.
And the Lord said to Paul through a vision in the night, Be not afraid, but speak on, and be not silent;
10 Ngoba mina ngilawe, kakho ozakuhlasela akulimaze, ngoba ngilabantu abanengi kulelidolobho.”
for I am with thee, and no one shall lay hands on thee, to hurt thee; for I have much people in this city.
11 Ngakho uPhawuli wahlala khona okomnyaka olengxenye, ebafundisa ilizwi likaNkulunkulu.
And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
12 UGaliyo esangusibalukhulu wase-Akhayiya, amaJuda eKhorinte amanyana ahlasela uPhawuli, amletha emthethwandaba,
And when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews rose up with one accord against Paul, and brought him before the judgment-seat,
13 amangalela esithi, “Indoda le idonsela abantu ekukhonzeni uNkulunkulu ngezindlela eziphambene lomthetho.”
saying, This man persuadeth people to worship God contrary to the law.
14 Kwathi uPhawuli esathi uyakhuluma, uGaliyo wathi kumaJuda, “Kube lina maJuda libika ngokona okuthile loba icala lokuganga okubi, bekufanele ukuthi ngililalele.
And as Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, If it were some act of injustice or wicked misdeed, O Jews, with reason I should bear with you;
15 Kodwa njengoba kuphathelane ngezinto zamazwi lamabizo, langomthetho wenu; kulungiseni lina. Mina kangiyikuba ngumahluleli wezinto ezinjalo.”
but if it be questions of doctrine, and names, and your law, look to it yourselves; I will not be a judge of these matters.
16 Wasesithi kabaxotshwe enkantolo.
And he drove them from the judgment-seat.
17 Bonke basebephendukela uSosithene, umphathi wesinagogu, bamtshaya phambi kwenkantolo. Kodwa uGaliyo kazange athi thiki lakancane.
But they all laid hold of Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment-seat; and Gallio cared for none of these things.
18 UPhawuli waphinda wahlala njalo okwesikhathi esithile eKhorinte. Wasetshiya abazalwane waya e-Asiriya, ephelekezelwa nguPhrisila lo-Akhwila. Engakaweli ulwandle waqala wagela inwele zakhe eKhenkireya ngenxa yesifungo ayesenzile.
And Paul, having stayed many days longer, took leave of the brethren, and sailed thence to Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila, after he had shaved his head in Cenchreae, for he had a vow.
19 Bafika e-Efesu lapho uPhawuli atshiya khona uPhrisila lo-Akhwila. Yena waya esinagogweni wayabonisana lamaJuda.
And they came to Ephesus, and he left them there; but he himself entered the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.
20 Bamcela ukuthi ahlale okwesikhathi eside kodwa wala.
And when they asked him to stay longer, he consented not;
21 Wathi esesuka wathembisa wathi, “Ngizaphenduka nxa kuyintando kaNkulunkulu.” Wasewela ulwandle esuka e-Efesu.
but having taken leave of them, saying, I will return to you, if God will, he set sail from Ephesus.
22 Wakhuphukela eKhesariya wahamba wayabingelela ibandla eJerusalema, wasesehlela e-Antiyokhi.
And having landed at Caesarea and gone up and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.
23 UPhawuli eseke wahlala e-Antiyokhi wasuka lapho wabhoda indawo ngendawo kuwo wonke umango waseGalathiya lowaseFirigiya eqinisa bonke abafundi.
And after he had spent some time there, he departed, going through the Galatian country and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.
24 Kusenjalo, umJuda owayethiwa ngu-Apholo, owe-Alekizandriya ngomdabuko, weza e-Efesu. Wayeyindoda efundileyo, elolwazi olukhulu ngeMibhalo.
And a certain Jew, named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus.
25 Yayifundisiwe ngendlela yeNkosi, ikhuluma ngomfutho njalo ifundisa okuqondileyo ngoJesu, isazi ngobhaphathizo lukaJohane kuphela.
This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught correctly the things concerning Jesus, knowing only the baptism of John.
26 Yakhuluma ngesibindi esinagogweni. Kwathi uPhrisila lo-Akhwila beyizwa, bayinxusa emzini wabo, bayichazela ngokugcweleyo indlela kaNkulunkulu.
And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But Aquila and Priscilla having heard him, took him to them, and set forth to him the way [[of the Lord]] more fully.
27 U-Apholo wayefuna ukuya e-Akhayiya, abazalwane basebemkhuthaza, babhalela abafundi khonale ukuthi bamamukele. Wathi efika khona waba luncedo olukhulu kulabo ababekholwe beholwa ngumusa.
And when he wished to go over into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to give him welcome; and when he was come, he gave much aid to those who had believed through grace.
28 Ngoba watshukana lamaJuda ewaphikisa enkundleni, ebonisa obala eMibhalweni ukuthi uJesu wayenguKhristu.
For he publicly confuted the Jews, with power, showing by the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ.
