1 USimoni Phethro, inceku lompostoli kaJesu Khristu, Kulabo abamukele ukholo oluligugu njengolwethu ngokulunga kukaNkulunkulu wethu loMsindisi uJesu Khristu:
Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us, in the righteousness of our God, and of our saviour Jesus Christ:
2 Umusa lokuthula kakube ngokwenu ngokwandileyo ngokumazi uNkulunkulu loJesu iNkosi yethu.
grace and peace be multiplied unto you, in the acknowledgement of God, and of Jesus our Lord;
3 Amandla akhe obuNkulunkulu asesinike konke esikudingayo ekuphileni kanye lokumesaba uNkulunkulu ngokumazi kwethu yena owasibiza ngenkazimulo yakhe langokulunga.
as his divine power hath given us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who hath called us by that glory and virtue,
4 Ngalokhu-ke usesinike izithembiso zakhe ezinkulu kakhulu eziligugu, ukuze kuthi ngazo lihlanganyele esimeni sobuNkulunkulu njalo liphephe ekonakaleni kwasemhlabeni okubangelwa yizinkanuko ezimbi.
by which are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these ye may become partakers of a divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5 Ngenxa yalesisizatho, yenzani imizamo yonke ukuba lengeze ukulunga ekukholweni kwenu; lekulungeni lengeze ukwazi;
And to this giving all diligence, add to your faith fortitude;
6 ekwazini lengeze ukuzithiba; ekuzithibeni lengeze ukubekezela; ekubekezeleni lengeze ukumesaba uNkulunkulu;
and to fortitude knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience piety;
7 ekumesabeni uNkulunkulu lengeze umusa wobuzalwane; lasemuseni wobuzalwane lengeze uthando.
and to piety brotherly affection; and to brotherly affection charity.
8 Ngoba nxa lilalezizinto ngokwanda kwazo, zizalinqanda ekubeni ngabangafezi lutho labangelazithelo ekwazini kwenu iNkosi yethu uJesu Khristu.
For if these be in you and abound, they will not suffer you to be idle, nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 Kodwa nxa umuntu engelazo ubona kalufifi njalo uyisiphofu, ekhohlwa ukuthi usehlanjululwe ezonweni zakhe zakudala.
But he, that hath not these, is blind, or short-sighted, having forgot his baptismal purification from his former sins.
10 Ngakho-ke, bazalwane bami, tshisekelani kakhulu ukwenza ukubizwa lokukhethwa kwenu kuqiniseke. Ngoba nxa lisenza lezizinto kalizukuwa,
Wherefore, my brethren, be the more diligent thus to make your calling and election sure; for if ye do these things ye shall never fall.
11 njalo lizakwamukelwa ngokupheleleyo embusweni olaphakade weNkosi loMsindisi wethu uJesu Khristu. (aiōnios g166)
For so an entrance shall be administered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. (aiōnios g166)
12 Ngakho ngizahlala ngilikhumbuza lezizinto, lanxa lizazi njalo liqinile ngokupheleleyo eqinisweni eselilalo.
Wherefore I will not neglect to put you always in mind of these things, though ye know them, and are established in the present truth.
13 Ngibona kufanele ukuba ngilikhumbuze nxa ngisaphila kulelithente lomzimba lo,
And I think it my duty, while I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by way of remembrance:
14 ngoba ngiyakwazi ukuthi ngizaphanga ngilibeke eceleni, njengoba iNkosi yethu uJesu Khristu isikwenze kwabasobala kimi.
knowing that I must soon lay down this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
15 Njalo ngizakwenza imizamo yonke ukubona ukuthi emva kokusuka kwami lizahlala lizikhumbula lezizinto.
And I will endeavour that after my departure also ye may always be able to call these things to remembrance.
16 Sasingalandeli izinganekwane ezaqaliswa ngokuhlakanipha lapho silitshela ngamandla langokuza kweNkosi yethu uJesu Khristu kodwa sasingofakazi bobukhosi bakhe.
For we did not follow artfully devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; but were eye-witnesses of his majesty.
17 Ngoba wamukela udumo lenkazimulo kuNkulunkulu uBaba lapho ilizwi lifika kuye livela eNkazimulweni yoBukhosi, lisithi, “Le yiNdodana yami engiyithandayo; ngiyathokoza kakhulu ngayo.”
For He received from God the Father honor and glory when a voice came to Him from the magnificent glory, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
18 Thina ngokwethu salizwa ilizwi lelo elavela ezulwini silaye phezu kwentaba engcwele.
And this voice, from heaven we heard, when we were with Him in the holy mount.
19 Njalo ilizwi labaphrofethi seliqiniswe kakhulu, futhi kuzakuba kuhle kini ukuba lilinake njengesibane esikhanyise endaweni emnyama, kuze kuse lendonsakusa ize iphume ezinhliziyweni zenu.
We have also the more sure word of the prophets, to which ye do well to attend, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, till the day dawn, and the morning-star rise in your hearts:
20 Phezu kwakho konke, kumele liqedisise ukuthi akukho siphrofethi soMbhalo esavela ngokuchasisa okungokomphrofethi.
knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of private interpretation;
21 Ngoba isiphrofethi kasizange sivele entandweni yomuntu, kodwa abantu bakhuluma kuvela kuNkulunkulu beholwa nguMoya oNgcwele.
for prophecy was not delivered of old at the will of man, but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the holy Spirit.
