< 2 Amakhosi 8 >
1 U-Elisha wayetshele umfazi olomntwana ayemvuse ekufeni wathi, “Suka uhambe labendlu yakho uyehlala lapha ongathuthela khona okwesikhatshana, ngoba uThixo uzaletha indlala elizweni ezathatha iminyaka eyisikhombisa.”
Now, Elisha, had spoken unto the woman whose son he had restored to life, saying—Arise, and take thy journey, thou and thy household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn, for Yahweh hath called for a famine, moreover also, it is coming upon the land seven years.
2 Owesifazane lowo wakwenza lokho njengokulaywa kwakhe ngumuntu kaNkulunkulu. Yena kanye labendlu yakhe basuka bayahlala elizweni lamaFilistiya okweminyaka eyisikhombisa.
So the woman arose, and did according to the word of the man of God, —and took her journey, she and her household, and she sojourned in the land of the Philistines, seven years.
3 Ekupheleni kweminyaka eyisikhombisa wasuka elizweni lamaFilistiya waya enkosini yakibo wayacela indawo yomuzi kanye lamasimu akhe.
And it came to pass, at the end of seven years, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines, —and she went forth to make outcry unto the king, concerning her house and concerning her field.
4 Inkosi yayikhuluma loGehazi, isisebenzi somuntu kaNkulunkulu, yathi, “Ake ungixoxele ngezimanga ezinkulu esezike zenziwa ngu-Elisha.”
Now, the king, was speaking unto Gehazi, servant of the man of God, saying, Do recount unto me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done.
5 Uthe uGehazi esathi uyalandisela inkosi ngokuthi u-Elisha wavusa njani abafileyo, owesifazane owayelendodana yakhe eyasiliswa ngu-Elisha wafika ezocela ukubuyela emzini wakhe lokulima amasimu akhe. UGehazi wathi, “Nguyenalo owesifazane, nkosi yami, nansi lendodana yakhe, eyiyo eyavuswa kwabafileyo ngu-Elisha.”
And so it was, just as he was recounting to the king how he had restored the dead to life, lo! the woman whose son he had restored to life, began making outcry unto the king, for her house and for her field. Then said Gehazi, My lord, O king! this, is the woman, and, this, her son, whom, Elisha, restored to life.
6 Inkosi yambuza ngalokhu umama lowo, lakanye wakufakaza lokho. Inkosi yasikhetha esinye sezikhulu zayo ukuba sikhangele izikhalazo zowesifazane yaqonqosela yathi, “Uze umbuyisele konke okwakungokwakhe, lenzuzo yonke eyasala izuzakala emasimini akhe kusukela mhla asuka kulelilizwe kuze kube sekuphendukeni kwakhe lamuhla.”
So the king asked the woman, and she recounted it to him, —the king, therefore, appointed her a certain officer, saying—Restore all that was hers, and all the increase of the field, from the day she left the land, even until now.
7 U-Elisha waya eDamaseko, uBheni-Hadadi inkosi yase-Aramu wayegula. Inkosi isitsheliwe ngalokho ukuthi,
And Elisha came into Damascus, when Ben-hadad king of Syria, was sick, —and it was told him, saying, The man of God hath come as far as this place.
8 “Umuntu kaNkulunkulu usefikile uvela ekudeni khonale esiza lapha,” wathi kuHazayeli: “Thatha isipho uyehlangabeza umuntu kaNkulunkulu. Khuluma ubuze uThixo ngaye; uthi, ‘Kambe ngizasila yini kulokhu kugula na?’”
So the king said unto Hazael—Take in thy hand a present, and go to meet the man of God, —so shalt thou enquire of Yahweh, from him, saying, Shall I recover from this sickness?
9 UHazayeli waphuma wayahlangabeza u-Elisha, ephethe izipho zezimpahla ezinhle kakhulu ezenziwa ngabaleminwe eDamaseko zithwelwe ngamakamela angamatshumi amane. Wafika wangena wema phambi kwakhe, wathi, “Indodana yakho uBheni-Hadadi inkosi yase-Aramu ungithumile ukuba ngizobuza, uthe yena, ‘Kambe ngizasila emkhuhlaneni na?’”
So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present in his hand, even every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’ burden, —and came, and stood before him, and said—Thy son, Ben-hadad king of Syria, hath sent me unto thee, saying, Shall I recover from this sickness?
10 U-Elisha waphendula wathi, “Hamba uyemtshela ukuthi, ‘Ngempela uzasila’; kodwa uThixo usebonakalisile kimi umbono wokuthi uzakufa.”
And Elisha said unto him, Go, say to him, Thou shalt, recover; And yet Yahweh hath shown me, that he will, die.
11 Wamkhangela engaciyozi emuthe nzo ngamehlo uHazayeli waze waba lenhloni. Umuntu kaNkulunkulu wasekhala.
And he settled his countenance, and fixed it until he turned pale, —and the man of God, wept.
12 UHazayeli wabuza wathi, “Kungani inkosi yami ikhala?” Umuntu kaNkulunkulu waphendula wathi, “Kungenxa yokuthi ngiyabazi ububi ozabenza ebantwini bako-Israyeli; uzatshisa izinqola zabo ngomlilo, ubulale lamadodana abo ngenkemba, uchoboze ingane zabo njalo uqhaqhe abesifazane abazithweleyo.”
Then said Hazael, Why, is my lord, weeping? And he said—Because I know what thou wilt do to the sons of Israel, by way of harm—Their fortresses, thou wilt set on fire, and, their choice young men, with the sword, thou wilt slay, and, their children, thou wilt dash in pieces, and, their women with child, thou wilt rip up.
13 UHazayeli wathi, “Kambe inceku yakho, yona iyinja ngokwayo, ingasanelisa njani isiga esingako?” U-Elisha waphendula wathi, “UThixo ungitshengisile ukuthi wena uzakuba yinkosi yase-Aramu.”
And Hazael said, But what is thy servant—the dog—that he should do this great thing? And Elisha said, Yahweh hath shown thee unto me, as king over Syria.
14 Ngakho uHazayeli wasuka ku-Elisha wabuyela enkosini yakhe. UBheni-Hadadi wasebuza esithi, “Utheni u-Elisha kuwe?” UHazayeli yena waphendula wathi, “Ungitshele ukuthi ngempela uzasila.”
So he departed from Elisha, and came in unto his lord, who said to him, What said, Elisha, unto thee? And he said. He told me thou wouldst, recover.
15 Kodwa ngosuku olulandelayo wathatha ingubo, wayigxamuza emanzini, wasembomboza ubuso benkosi ngayo yaze yafa. Ngakho uHazayeli waba yinkosi.
But it came to pass on the morrow, that he took the coverlet, and dipped it in water, and spread it over his face, that he died, —and, Hazael, reigned, in his stead.
16 Ngomnyaka wesihlanu kaJoramu indodana ka-Ahabi inkosi yako-Israyeli, ngesikhathi uJehoshafathi eyinkosi yakoJuda, uJehoramu indodana kaJehoshafathi waqalisa ukubusa eyinkosi yakoJuda.
Now, in the fifth year of Joram son of Ahab, king of Israel, Jehoshaphat, having been king of Judah, Jehoram, son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, began to reign.
17 Wayeleminyaka engamatshumi amathathu lambili eqalisa ukubusa, njalo wabusa eJerusalema okweminyaka eyisificaminwembili.
Thirty-two years old, was he when he began to reign, and, eight years, reigned, he in Jerusalem.
18 Yena wahamba emanyathelweni amakhosi ako-Israyeli, njengalokhu okwakwenziwe ngabendlu ka-Ahabi, ngoba wayethethe indodakazi ka-Ahabi. Wona phambi kukaThixo.
And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as did the house of Ahab, for, a daughter of Ahab, became his wife, —and he did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh.
19 Loba kunjalo, ngenxa kaDavida inceku yakhe, uThixo kathandanga ukudiliza indlu kaJuda. Wayemthembise ukugcina isibane sikaDavida lenzalo yakhe kuze kube nini lanini.
Yet was not Yahweh willing to destroy Judah, for the sake of David his servant, —even as he promised him to give him a lamp for his sons all the days.
20 Ngensuku zikaJehoramu, abase-Edomi bahlamukela uJuda babeka eyabo inkosi.
In his days, did Edom revolt from under the hand of Judah, —and they set over them a king.
21 Ngakho uJehoramu waya eZayiri lezinqola zakhe zokulwa. Ama-Edomi amhanqa yena kanye labalawuli bezinqola zokulwa, wavuka ebusuku waphulukundlela ngobusuku; kodwa amabutho akhe abaleka abuyela ekhaya.
So Joram passed over to Zair, and all the chariots with him, —and it came to pass that, he, arising by night, smote the Edomites that were round about unto him, and the captains of the chariots, and the people fled to their homes,
22 Kuze kube lamhla abase-Edomi balokhu behlamukela uJuda. ULibhina laye wahlamuka ngalesosikhathi.
Yet did Edom revolt from under the hand of Judah, unto this day, —then, revolted Libnah, at the same time.
23 Okunye ngombuso langezehlakalo zikaJehoramu, lakho konke okunye akwenzayo, akulotshwanga egwalweni lwembali yamakhosi akoJuda na?
Now, the rest of the story of Joram, and all that he did, are, they, not written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
24 UJehoramu waya kwabaphansi, wangcwatshwa laboyise eMzini kaDavida. Ngakho u-Ahaziya indodana yakhe wathatha ubukhosi.
And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers, in the city of David, —and, Ahaziah his son, reigned, in his stead.
25 Ngomnyaka wetshumi lambili kaJoramu indodana ka-Ahabi inkosi yako-Israyeli, u-Ahaziya indodana kaJehoramu inkosi yakoJuda waqalisa ukubusa.
In the twelfth year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel, did Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah, begin to reign.
26 U-Ahaziya waqalisa ukubusa eleminyaka engamatshumi amabili, njalo wabusa eJerusalema okomnyaka owodwa. Unina wayengu-Athaliya, umntanomntanakhe ka-Omri inkosi yako-Israyeli.
Two and twenty years old, was Ahaziah when he began to reign, —and, one year, reigned he in Jerusalem, —and, his mother’s name, was Athaliah, daughter of Omri, king of Israel;
27 Wahamba ngenyathelo labendlu ka-Ahabi wona phambi kukaThixo, njengokwakwenziwe ngabendlu ka-Ahabi, ngoba wayeyisihlobo sabo ngokuthatha.
And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, like the house of Ahab, —for, son-in-law of the house of Ahab, was, he.
28 U-Ahaziya waya empini loJoramu indodana ka-Ahabi besilwa loHazayeli inkosi yase-Aramu eRamothi Giliyadi. Ama-Aramu alimaza uJoramu,
And he went with Joram son of Ahab, to make war against Hazael king of Syria, in Ramoth-gilead, —and the Syrians wounded Joram.
29 ngakho inkosi uJoramu yabuyela eJezerili ukuthi iyekwelatshwa amanxeba lapho eyayilinyazwe khona ngama-Aramu eRama ekulweni kwayo loHazayeli inkosi yama-Aramu. Ngakho u-Ahaziya indodana kaJehoramu inkosi yakoJuda wehla wayabona uJoramu indodana ka-Ahabi, njengoba wayeselimele.
So Joram the king returned to get healed in Jezreel, from the wounds wherewith the Syrians had wounded him in Ramah, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria, —and, Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah, went down to see Joram son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he, was sick.
