1 Mina Phawuli, umpostoli kaKhristu uJesu ngokulaya kukaNkulunkulu uMsindisi wethu lokukaKhristu uJesu ithemba lethu,
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the commandment of God our Saviour, and of Christ Jesus our hope:
2 KuThimothi indodana yami eqotho ekukholweni ngithi: Umusa lesihawu kanye lokuthula okuvela kuNkulunkulu uBaba lakuKhristu uJesu iNkosi yethu kakube kuwe.
To Timothy, his beloved son in faith. Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father, and from Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 Njengoba ngakukhuthaza ekuyeni kwami eMasedoniya, hlala khonapho e-Efesu ukuze ulaye abantu abathile ukuba bangafundisi imfundiso yamanga futhi
As I desired thee to remain at Ephesus when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some not to teach otherwise,
4 loba ukuchitha isikhathi ngezinganekwane langezimbali zensendo ezingapheliyo. Lokhu kubanga ukuphikisana hatshi umsebenzi kaNkulunkulu wokukholwa.
Not to give heed to fables and endless genealogies: which furnish questions rather than the edification of God, which is in faith.
5 Inhloso yalo umlayo luthando oluvela enhliziyweni emhlophe, lesazela esihle lokholo oluqotho.
Now the end of the commandment is charity, from a pure heart, and a good conscience, and an unfeigned faith.
6 Abanye sebedukile kulokhu baphendukela ekukhulumeni okuyize.
From which things some going astray, are turned aside unto vain babbling:
7 Bafuna ukuba ngabafundisi bomthetho kodwa kabakwazi abakhuluma ngakho loba lokhu abakuqinisa kangaka ngesibindi.
Desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither the things they say, nor whereof they affirm.
8 Siyakwazi ukuthi umthetho ulungile nxa umuntu ewusebenzisa kuhle.
But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully:
9 Siyakwazi lokuthi umthetho kawenzelwanga abantu abalungileyo kodwa wenzelwa abeqa imithetho labahlamuki, abangamaziyo uNkulunkulu labayizoni, abangalunganga labangakholwayo; wenzelwa ababulala oyise labonina, lababulali,
Knowing this, that the law is not made for the just man, but for the unjust and disobedient, for the ungodly, and for sinners, for the wicked and defiled, for murderers of fathers, and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
10 lezifebe, izitabane, abathengisa izigqili labaqamba amanga kanye labafakazela amanga kanye lokunye okuphambene lemfundiso eqotho
For fornicators, for them who defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and whatever other thing is contrary to sound doctrine,
11 evumelana levangeli elilenkazimulo kaNkulunkulu obusisekileyo, enginika lona.
Which is according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which hath been committed to my trust.
12 Ngiyambonga uKhristu uJesu iNkosi yethu onginike amandla, wangibona ngithembekile njalo wangibeka emsebenzini wakhe.
I give thanks who hath strengthened me, even to Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he hath counted me faithful, putting me in the ministry;
13 Lanxa ngake ngaba ngumhlambazi, lomhlukuluzi, lesidlwangudlwangu, ngenzelwa isihawu ngoba ngakwenza ngokungazi langokungakholwa.
Who before was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and contumelious. But I obtained the mercy of God, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
14 Umusa weNkosi wathululelwa phezu kwami ngokwanda okukhulu, ndawonye lokukholwa kanye lothando olukuKhristu uJesu.
Now the grace of our Lord hath abounded exceedingly with faith and love, which is in Christ Jesus.
15 Nansi isitsho esiqotho esifanele ukwamukelwa esithi: UKhristu uJesu weza emhlabeni ukuba asindise izoni, mina ngingesibi kakhulu kulazo.
A faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into this world to save sinners, of whom I am the chief.
16 Kodwa ngenxa yalesosizatho ngenzelwa isihawu ukuze kuthi ngami isoni esibi kakhulu uJesu Khristu abonakalise ukubekezela kwakhe okungelamkhawulo njengesibonelo kulabo abakholwa kuye bamukele lokuphila okungapheliyo. (aiōnios g166)
But for this cause have I obtained mercy: that in me first Christ Jesus might shew forth all patience, for the information of them that shall believe in him unto life everlasting. (aiōnios g166)
17 Manje kuyo iNkosi yaphakade engafiyo, engabonakaliyo, uNkulunkulu yedwa, udumo lenkazimulo akube kuye kuze kube nini lanini. Ameni. (aiōn g165)
Now to the king of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
18 Thimothi ndodana yami, ngikunika umlayo lo ekulondolozeni iziphrofethi ezake zenziwa ngawe ukuze uthi ngokuzikhumbula ulwe ukulwa okuhle,
This precept I commend to thee, O son Timothy; according to the prophecies going before on thee, that thou war in them a good warfare,
19 ubambelele ekukholweni lesazeleni esihle. Abanye bakwalile lokhu, ngakho-ke, babhidliza ukukholwa kwabo.
Having faith and a good conscience, which some rejecting have made shipwreck concerning the faith.
20 Phakathi kwabo kuloHimeniyasi lo-Alekizanda esengibanikele kuSathane ukuba bafundiswe ukungahlambazi uNkulunkulu.
Of whom is Hymeneus and Alexander, whom I have delivered up to Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
