1 Bazalwane, mayelana lezikhathi lezinsuku akudingeki ukuba sililobele
But, brethren, you have no need that I write to you of the times and seasons;
2 ngoba likwazi kahle ukuthi usuku lweNkosi luzafika njengesela ebusuku.
for you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night:
3 Abantu besathi, “Ukuthula lokuvikeleka,” incithakalo izakwehlela phezu kwabo ngokujuma njengomhelo kowesifazane ozithweleyo njalo kabayikuphunyuka.
for when they shall say, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction comes upon them, as the pains of birth upon a woman with child, and they shall not escape.
4 Kodwa lina bazalwane, kalikho emnyameni ukuba lolusuku lulijume njengesela.
But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Lonke lingamadodana okukhanya lamadodana emini. Kasisibo bobusuku loba abobumnyama.
You are all sons of light, and sons of day: we are not of night, nor of darkness.
6 Ngakho-ke, kasingafani labanye abaleleyo kodwa kasiphaphameni njalo sizithibe.
Therefore, let us not sleep, as do others, but let us watch and be sober.
7 Ngoba labo abalalayo balala ebusuku, lalabo abadakwayo badakwa ebusuku.
For those who sleep, sleep in the night; and those who are drunken, are drunken in the night.
8 Kodwa njengoba singabemini, kasizithibeni, sembathe ukukholwa lothando njengesihlangu sesifuba, lethemba lokusindiswa njengengowane.
But let us, who are of the day, be sober, having on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet, the hope of salvation:
9 Ngoba uNkulunkulu kasimiselanga ulaka kodwa ukuba sithole ukusindiswa ngeNkosi yethu uJesu Khristu.
for God has not appointed us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 Wasifela ukuze loba sikhangele kumbe silele, siphile laye.
who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we might live together with him.
11 Ngakho-ke, qinisanani njalo lakhane njengoba likwenza.
Wherefore, exhort one another, and edify one another, as you also do.
12 Siyalicela bazalwane, ukuba libahloniphe labo abasebenza nzima phakathi kwenu, abalikhathalelayo eNkosini njalo beliqondisa futhi.
Now we beseech you, brethren, to have regard for those who labor among you, and preside over you in the Lord, and admonish you,
13 Bahlonipheni kakhulu ngothando ngenxa yomsebenzi wabo. Hlalisanani ngokuthula.
and that you esteem them very highly in love on account of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.
14 Njalo siyalincenga bazalwane, baxwayiseni labo abangamavila, likhuthaze abadele inhliziyo, lisize ababuthakathaka njalo libekezelele umuntu wonke.
We exhort you, brethren, admonish the unruly, comfort the faint-hearted, earnestly care for the weak-minded, be of a long-suffering disposition toward all.
15 Qaphelani kungabikhona ophindisela okubi ngokubi kodwa lihlale lizama ukwenzelana okuhle kanye lakwabanye abantu.
See that no one render evil for evil to any, but always pursue that which is good toward one another and toward all.
16 Thokozani kokuphela,
Rejoice always;
17 likhuleke kokuphela
pray without ceasing;
18 njalo libonge konke okulehlelayo ngoba lokhu kuyintando kaNkulunkulu ngani kuKhristu uJesu.
in every thing give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
19 Lingawucitshi umlilo kaMoya;
Quench not the Spirit.
20 lingazeyisi iziphrofethi
Despise not prophesyings.
21 kodwa zihloleni zonke; libambelele kokulungileyo,
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 lixwaye konke okubi.
Abstain from every appearance of evil.
23 Sengathi uNkulunkulu uqobo, uNkulunkulu wokuthula angalenza libengcwele ngokupheleleyo. Sengathi umoya wenu wonke lomphefumulo kanye lomzimba kungalondolozwa kungelasici ekufikeni kweNkosi yethu uJesu Khristu.
Now the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Lowo olibizayo uthembekile njalo uzakukwenza lokho.
Faithful is he that calls you; and he will do what he has promised.
25 Lisikhulekele bazalwane.
Brethren, pray for us.
26 Bingelelani abazalwane bonke ngokwangana okungcwele.
Salute all the brethren with a holy kiss.
27 Ngiyalilaya phambi kweNkosi ukuba incwadi le ibalelwe abazalwane bonke.
I adjure you by the Lord, that this letter be read to all the holy brethren.
28 Umusa weNkosi yethu uJesu Khristu kawube lani.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
