1 Lokho okwakukhona kusukela ekuqaleni, esesikuzwile, esesikubone ngamehlo ethu, esesikukhangele lezandla zethu zakuthinta, lokhu siyakutshumayela mayelana leLizwi lokuphila.
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have beheld, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of the life;
2 Ukuphila kwabonakala; sikubonile njalo siyakufakaza, njalo sitshumayela kini ukuphila okulaphakade okwakukhona kuBaba njalo sekubonakele kithi. (aiōnios g166)
and the life was made manifest, and we have seen, and we testify, and we proclaim to you the life which is eternal, which was with the Father, and has been made manifest unto us; (aiōnios g166)
3 Sitshumayela kini esikubonileyo lesikuzwileyo ukuze lani libe lokuhlanganyela lathi. Ukuhlanganyela kwethu kuloBaba kanye leNdodana yakhe, uJesu Khristu.
that which we have seen and heard we also proclaim to you, in order that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is indeed with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 Siloba lokhu ukuze ukuthokoza kwethu kuphelele.
And we write the same things to you, in order that our joy may be full.
5 Leli yilizwi esilizwe kuye esilitshumayela kini elokuthi: UNkulunkulu uyikukhanya; kuye akukho ubumnyama.
And the same message which we have heard from him, we also proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness.

but if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
8 Nxa sisithi kasilasono, siyazikhohlisa njalo kasilaqiniso.
But if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 Nxa sivuma izono zethu, yena uthembekile njalo ulungile, uzasithethelela izono zethu, asihlambulule kukho konke ukungalungi kwethu.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous that he may forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 Nxa sisithi akulasono esasenzayo, simenza abe ngumqambi wamanga, njalo ilizwi lakhe kalilandawo kithi.
If we may say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
