1 Ngalesosikhathi uHiramu inkosi yaseThire wathumela izithunywa kuDavida, ndawonye lezigodo zomsedari, ababazi bamatshe kanye lababazi ukuthi bayemakhela isigodlo.
And Churam the king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and trees of cedars, and masons and carpenters, to build him a house.
2 UDavida wahle wakwazi ukuthi uThixo usembekile ukuba abe yinkosi ka-Israyeli lokuthi umbuso wakhe uphakanyisiwe kakhulu ngenxa yabantu bakhe bako-Israyeli.
And David felt conscious that the Lord had established him as king over Israel; for his kingdom was exalted on high, because of his people Israel.
3 EJerusalema uDavida wathatha abanye abafazi wazala amanye amadodana lamadodakazi.
And David took yet more wives at Jerusalem; and David begat more sons and daughters.
4 Nanka amabizo abantwana abazalelwa khona: uShamuwa, uShobabi, uNathani, uSolomoni,
And these are the names of the children that he had in Jerusalem: Shammua', and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,
5 u-Ibhari, u-Elishuwa, u-Eliphelethi,
And Yibchar, and Elishua', and Elpalet,
6 uNoga, uNefegi, uJafiya,
And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Yaphia',
7 u-Elishama, uBheyeliyada kanye lo-Elifelethi.
And Elishama', and Be'elyada', and Eliphalet.
8 AmaFilistiya athi esizwa ukuthi uDavida usegcotshwe ukuba yinkosi yalo lonke elako-Israyeli, aphuma wonke ehlome ephelele esiyamzingela, kodwa uDavida wakuzwa lokho wahle waphuma yena ukuyawahlangabeza.
But when the Philistines heard that David had been anointed as king over all Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David: and David heard of it, and went out against them.
9 AmaFilistiya ayesefikile njalo ukuyahlasela eSigodini saseRefayi;
And the Philistines came and spread themselves out in the valley of Rephaim.
10 ngakho uDavida wabuza kuNkulunkulu wathi: “Ngihambe ngiyewahlasela amaFilistiya na? Uzawanikela kimi na?” UThixo wamphendula wathi, “Hamba, ngizawanikela kuwe.”
And David asked counsel of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into my hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up; and I will deliver them into thy hand.
11 Ngakho uDavida lamabutho akhe aya eBhali Pherazimi lapho awehlula khona. Wathi: “Njengamanzi efohla, uNkulunkulu ufohlele ezitheni zami ngesandla sami.” Ngakho leyondawo yasibizwa ngokuthi yiBhali Pherazimi.
And they came up to Ba'al-perazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken down my enemies through my hand as a breach [is made] by water: therefore they called the name of that place Ba'al-perazim.
12 AmaFilistiya ayebaleke atshiya onkulunkulu bawo khonale, uDavida wathi kabatshiswe ngomlilo.
And they left behind there their gods, and David gave the order, and they were burnt with fire.
13 AmaFilistiya aphinda njalo ukuhlasela isigodi,
And the Philistines [came] once again, and spread themselves out in the valley.
14 ngakho uDavida wabuza kuNkulunkulu njalo, uNkulunkulu wamphendula wathi, “Ungasuki uqonde phambili kodwa bazingeleze ubusubahlasela uvelela ezihlahleni zebhalisamu.
And David asked again counsel of God; and God said unto him, Thou shalt not go up after them: turn about from them, and come upon them opposite the mulberry-trees,
15 Kuzakuthi lapho usizwa izisinde zabahambayo ezihlahleni zebhalisamu, uphume uhlasele, ngoba lokho kuzabe kusitsho ukuthi uNkulunkulu usehambe phambi kwakho ukuyanqoba amabutho amaFilistiya.”
And it shall be, when thou hearest the sound of walking on the tops of the mulberry-trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle; for God will be gone forth before thee to smite the camp of the Philistines.
16 Ngakho uDavida wenza njengokulaywa kwakhe nguNkulunkulu, njalo bawacakazela phansi amaFilistiya umango wonke kusukela eGibhiyoni kusiya eGezeri.
And David did as God had commanded him; and they smote the camp of the Philistines from Gib'on as far as Gezer.
17 Yikho udumo lukaDavida lwanda lwafinyelela kuwo wonke amazwe, uThixo wenza izizwe zonke zimesabe.
And the fame of David went out into all the lands; and the Lord laid the dread of him upon all the nations.
