1 La ngamabutho ayeloDavida eZikhilagi, ngesikhathi engavunyelwa ukubonakala kuSawuli indodana kaKhishi (kwakungamaqhawe ayemhlomulele empini;
Now these are they that came to David to Ziklag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish: and they were among the mighty men, his helpers in war.
2 ayehlome ngemitshoko, ezingcitshi ekutshokeni lokutshaya ngezavutha loba ejikijela ngesokudla loba ngesenxele; ayeyizihlobo zikaSawuli engawesizwe sikaBhenjamini):
They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in slinging stones and in shooting arrows from the bow; they were of Saul’s brethren of Benjamin.
3 U-Ahiyezeri induna yawo loJowashi amadodana kaShemaha owaseGibhiya; loJeziyeli loPhelethi amadodana ka-Azimavethi; loBherakha, loJehu umʼAnathothi,
The chief was Ahiezer, then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; and Jeziel, and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth; and Beracah, and Jehu the Anathothite;
4 kanye lo-Ishimaya umGibhiyoni, indoda eyayilamandla amakhulu kwabangamatshumi amathathu, engumkhokheli wabangamatshumi amathathu, loJeremiya, loJahaziyeli, loJohanani, loJozabhadi umGederathi,
and Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the thirty and over the thirty; and Jeremiah, and Jahaziel, and Johanan, and Jozabad the Gederathite;
5 lo-Eluzayi, loJerimothi, loBheliya, loShemariya kanye loShefathiya umHarufi,
Eluzai, and Jerimoth, and Bealiah, and Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite;
6 lo-Elikhana, lo-Ishiya, lo-Azareli, loJowezeri loJashobheyamu amaKhora;
Elkanah, and Isshiah, and Azarel, and Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites;
7 kanye loJowela loZebhadiya amadodana kaJerohamu waseGedori.
and Joelah, and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of Gedor.
8 Abanye abakoGadi babalekela kuDavida enqabeni yakhe enkangala. Babengamabutho alezibindi, belungele ukulwa njalo bekwazi ukuphatha ihawu lomkhonto. Ubuso babo babungobezilwane, njalo belesiqubu njengamagogo ezintabeni.
And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David to the hold in the wilderness, mighty men of valour, men trained for war, that could handle shield and spear; whose faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as the roes upon the mountains;
9 U-Ezeri wayeyinduna, u-Obhadaya engumsekeli womlawuli, u-Eliyabi engowesithathu,
Ezer the chief, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third;
10 uMishimana engowesine, uJeremiya engowesihlanu,
Mishmannah the fourth; Jeremiah the fifth;
11 u-Athayi engowesithupha, u-Eliyeli engowesikhombisa,
Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh;
12 uJohanani engowesificaminwembili, u-Elizabhadi engowesificamunwemunye,
Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth;
13 uJeremiya engumsekeli wetshumi kanye loMakhabhanayi owayengowetshumi lanye.
Jeremiah the tenth, Machbannai the eleventh.
14 Amadoda akoGadi ayengabalawuli bamabutho, kuthi omncinyane wabo wayengamelana labalikhulu kodwa omkhulu wabo engamelana labayinkulungwane.
These of the sons of Gad were captains of the host: he that was least was equal to an hundred, and the greatest to a thousand.
15 Yiwo la amadoda achapha uJodani ngenyanga yakuqala umfula ugcwele uphuphuma emakhunjini awo wonke, yibo njalo abaxotsha bonke ababehlala ezihotsheni, empumalanga kanye lasentshonalanga.
These are they that went over Jordan in the first month, when it had overflown all its banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west.
16 Amanye amadoda akoBhenjamini lamanye ayevela koJuda lawo alandela uDavida khonale enqabeni yakhe.
And there came of the children of Benjamin and Judah to the hold unto David.
17 UDavida waphuma ukuba ayewahlangabeza wathi kuwo: “Nxa lingilandela ngokuthula, lizongiphathisa njengabangane, ngizimisele ukuhlanganyela kanye lani. Kodwa nxa lidinga ukunginikela ezitheni zami, mina ngimsulwa, uNkulunkulu wabokhokho kakubone lokho, alijezise.”
And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come peaceably unto me to help me, mine heart shall be knit unto you: but if [ye be come] to betray me to mine adversaries, seeing there is no wrong in mine hands, the God of our fathers look thereon, and rebuke it.
18 Ngakho uMoya wasesehlela ku-Amasayi, umlawuli wabangamatshumi amaThathu, wathi: “Singabakho thina, wena Davida! Sikanye lawe wena ndodana kaJese! Impumelelo, impumelelo kuwe, njalo impumelelo kulabo abaphathisana lawe! Ngoba uNkulunkulu wakho uzakusiza.” Ngakho uDavida wabamukela wabenza abakhokheli bamaviyo amabutho ayehlasela.
Then the spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the thirty, [and he said], Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse: peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thine helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.
19 Amanye amadoda akoManase abalekela kuDavida ekuhambeni kwakhe lamaFilistiya esiyahlasela uSawuli. (Yena kanye lamabutho akhe kasazange ancedise amaFilistiya, ngoba ngemva kokubuzisisana, ababusi bawo bathi kaxotshwe. Bathi bona: “Uyingozi kithi, ngoba angasiphendukela abuyele enkosini yakhe uSawuli.”)
Of Manasseh also there fell away some to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle, but they helped them not: for the lords of the Philistines upon advisement sent him away, saying, He will fall away to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads.
20 UDavida wathi esiya eZikhilagi, nanka amadoda abaleka koManase amlandela: ngu-Adina, loJozabhadi, loJediyeli, loMikhayeli, loJozabhadi, lo-Elihu kanye loZilethayi ababengabalawuli benkulungwane koManase.
As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manasseh, Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zillethai, captains of thousands that were of Manasseh.
21 Bancedisa uDavida ekulweni lamaviyo abahlaseli, ngoba bonke babengamabutho alezibindi, njalo basebengabalawuli phakathi kwamabutho akhe.
And they helped David against the band of rovers: for they were all mighty men of valour, and were captains in the host.
22 Insuku zonke, ukusa kwamalanga, kwakutheleka abantu bezoncedisa uDavida, waze waba lebutho elikhulu, njengebutho likaNkulunkulu.
For from day to day there came to David to help him, until it was a great host, like the host of God.
23 Nanka amanani amadoda ayehlomele impi eza kuDavida eHebhroni ezomncedisa ukuthatha umbuso kaSawuli, njengokutsho kukaThixo:
And these are the numbers of the heads of them that were armed for war, which came to David to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of the LORD.
24 amadoda ayevela koJuda ehlome ngamahawu lemikhonto ayezinkulungwane eziyisithupha lamakhulu ayisificaminwembili ehlomele ukulwa impi;
The children of Judah that bare shield and spear were six thousand and eight hundred, armed for war.
25 abakaSimiyoni, amabutho ayelungele ukuhlasela babezinkulungwane eziyisikhombisa lekhulu,
Of the children of Simeon, mighty men of valour for the war, seven thousand and one hundred.
26 amadoda akoLevi ayezinkulungwane ezine lamakhulu ayisithupha,
Of the children of Levi four thousand and six hundred.
27 kubalwa loJehoyada, umkhokheli wabendlu ka-Aroni babezinkulungwane ezintathu lamakhulu ayisikhombisa zamadoda
And Jehoiada was the leader of [the house of] Aaron, and with him were three thousand and seven hundred;
28 kanye loZadokhi, ibutho elaliseselijaha lilesibindi, lilezikhulu zendlu yakwabo ezingamatshumi amabili lambili;
and Zadok, a young man mighty of valour, and of his father’s house twenty and two captains.
29 amadoda akoBhenjamini, labakibo kaSawuli babezinkulungwane ezintathu, ababesele bethembekile kuSawuli kuze kufike lesisikhathi yibo ababebanengi kulelonani;
And of the children of Benjamin, the brethren of Saul, three thousand: for hitherto the greatest part of them had kept their allegiance to the house of Saul.
30 amadoda ako-Efrayimi, amadoda ayelezibindi, edumile ezizwaneni zawo, ayezinkulungwane ezingamatshumi amabili lamakhulu ayisificaminwembili,
And of the children of Ephraim twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty men of valour, famous men in their fathers’ houses.
31 amadoda ayevela kungxenye yesizwana sikaManase, ekhethwe ngamabizo awo ukuba azobeka uDavida ukuthi abe yinkosi, ayezinkulungwane ezilitshumi lesificaminwembili;
And of the half tribe of Manasseh eighteen thousand, which were expressed by name, to come and make David king.
32 amadoda ayevela ko-Isakhari, ayezwisisa umumo walesosikhathi njalo esazi ukuthi u-Israyeli kumele enzeni. Kwakuzinduna ezingamakhulu amabili kanye lezihlobo zazo ezazingaphansi kwazo;
And of the children of Issachar, men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.
33 amadoda ayevela koZebhuluni, amabutho ayezingwazi empini, ngezikhali zemihlobo etshiyeneyo, eza ukuzancedisa uDavida ngokuzinikela okungalakuthandabuza, ayezinkulungwane ezingamatshumi amahlanu;
Of Zebulun, such as were able to go out in the host, that could set the battle in array, with all manner of instruments of war, fifty thousand; and that could order [the battle array, and were] not of double heart.
34 amadoda ayevela koNafithali kwakuyizikhulu eziyinkulungwane eyodwa, kanye lamadoda ayephethe amahawu lemikhonto ayezinkulungwane ezingamatshumi amathathu lesikhombisa;
And of Naphtali a thousand captains, and with them with shield and spear thirty and seven thousand.
35 amadoda ayevela koDani, ezimisele ukulwa empini, ayezinkulungwane ezingamatshumi amabili lesificaminwembili lamakhulu ayisithupha;
And of the Danites that could set the battle in array, twenty and eight thousand and six hundred.
36 amadoda ayevela ko-Asheri, amabutho ayevele ekwejayele ukulwa empini njalo ezimisele ukulwa, ayezinkulungwane ezingamatshumi amane;
And of Asher, such as were able to go out in the host, that could set the battle in array, forty thousand.
37 njalo ngempumalanga yeJodani, amadoda akoRubheni, koGadi lakungxenye yesizwana sikaManase, ayehlome ngemihlobohlobo yezikhali, ayezinkulungwane ezilikhulu lamatshumi amabili.
And on the other side of Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and of the half tribe of Manasseh, with all manner of instruments of war for the battle, an hundred and twenty thousand.
38 Bonke laba babengamabutho azinikeleyo ukungena laloba yisiphi isigaba. Ngamabutho aya eHebhroni ezimisele ukufika abeke uDavida esihlalweni sobukhosi abe yinkosi ka-Israyeli. Abanye bonke abako-Israyeli babengqondonye befisa ukwethesa uDavida ubukhosi.
All these, being men of war, that could order the battle array, came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king.
39 Wonke lamadoda athatha insuku ezintathu eloDavida, esidla njalo enatha, njengoba izimuli zawo zaziwalungisele umphako.
And they were there with David three days, eating and drinking: for their brethren had made preparation for them.
40 Konke labomakhelwane babo, ababevela kude khonale ku-Isakhari, loZebhuluni lakuNafithali beza bethwele ukudla ngabobabhemi, amakamela, imbongolo langenkabi. Kwakulefulawa enengi, amakhekhe omkhiwane, amakhekhe erezini, iwayini, amafutha, inkomo lezimvu, ngoba kwakulokujabula ko-Israyeli.
Moreover they that were nigh unto them, [even] as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought bread on asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, victual of meal, cakes of figs, and clusters of raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep in abundance: for there was joy in Israel:
