ယောဟန် 8
1 ၁ ထိုနောက်သူတို့သည်မိမိတို့အိမ်သို့အသီး သီးပြန်သွားကြ၏။ သခင်ယေရှုမူကား သံလွင်တောင်သို့ကြွတော်မူ၏။-
except Jesus, who went to the Mount of Olives.
2 ၂ နောက်တစ်နေ့နံနက်စောစောဗိမာန်တော်သို့ တစ်ဖန်ကြွတော်မူသောအခါ လူအပေါင်းတို့ သည်အထံတော်သို့လာကြ၏။ ကိုယ်တော်သည် ထိုင်တော်မူလျက်ထိုသူတို့အားဟောပြော သွန်သင်တော်မူ၏။-
But he went again into the Temple Courts early in the morning, and all the people came to him; and he sat down and taught them.
3 ၃ ကျမ်းတတ်ဆရာများနှင့်ဖာရိရှဲများသည် အမျိုးသမီးတစ်ယောက်ကိုအထံတော်သို့ ခေါ်ခဲ့ကြ၏။ သူသည်မျောက်မထားနေစဉ် အဖမ်းခံရခြင်းဖြစ်၏။ ကျမ်းတတ်ဆရာ များနှင့်ဖာရိရှဲတို့သည်အမျိုးသမီးကို မိမိတို့ရှေ့တွင်ရပ်စေပြီးလျှင်၊-
Presently, however, the Teachers of the Law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placed her in the middle of the Court,
4 ၄ သခင်ယေရှုအား ``အရှင်ဘုရား၊ ဤမိန်းမ မျောက်မထားသည်ကိုအကျွန်ုပ်တို့လက်ပူး လက်ကြပ်ဖမ်းမိပါ၏။-
and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was found in the act of adultery.
5 ၅ ပညတ်တရားတွင်မောရှေက ထိုသို့သော မိန်းမမျိုးကိုကျောက်ခဲနှင့်ပေါက်၍သတ်ရ မည်ဟု အကျွန်ုပ်တို့အားပညတ်ခဲ့ပါသည်။ ကိုယ်တော်သည်မည်သို့ဆိုပါမည်နည်း'' ဟု လျှောက်ကြ၏။-
Now Moses, in the Law, commanded us to stone such women to death; what do you say?”
6 ၆ သူတို့သည်ကိုယ်တော်ကိုပြစ်တင်စွပ်စွဲနိုင်ရန် ဤသို့အကွက်ဆင်၍လျှောက်ထားကြခြင်း ဖြစ်၏။ သို့ရာတွင်သခင်ယေရှုသည်ငုံ့၍ မြေပေါ်တွင်လက်ညှိုးတော်ဖြင့်ရေးခြစ် လျက်နေတော်မူ၏။
They said this to test him, in order to have a charge to bring against him. But Jesus stooped down, and wrote on the ground with his finger.
7 ၇ ထိုသူတို့သည်ထပ်ကာထပ်ကာမေးမြန်း လျှောက်ထားကြ၏။ ထိုအခါကိုယ်တော်သည် မော်၍ကြည့်တော်မူလျက် ``သင်တို့အနက် အပြစ်ကင်းသူသည် ဦးစွာပထမသူ့ကို ကျောက်ခဲနှင့်ပေါက်ပါစေ'' ဟုမိန့်တော်မူ၏။-
However, as they continued asking him, he raised himself, and said, “Let the person among you who has never done wrong throw the first stone at her.”
And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9 ၉ ထိုသူတို့သည်ဤသို့ကိုယ်တော်မိန့်တော်မူသည် ကိုကြားကြသောအခါ အသက်ကြီးသူများ ကအစပြု၍တစ်ယောက်ပြီးတစ်ယောက်ထွက် သွားကြ၏။-
When they heard that, they went out one by one, beginning with the eldest; and Jesus was left alone with the woman in the middle of the Court.
10 ၁၀ သခင်ယေရှုသည်မော်၍ကြည့်တော်မူပြန် လျှင် ``အချင်းအမျိုးသမီး၊ ထိုသူတို့ကား အဘယ်မှာနည်း။ သင့်အားအပြစ်ဒဏ်စီရင် မည့်သူတစ်ယောက်မျှမရှိသလော'' ဟုမေး တော်မူ၏။
Raising himself, Jesus said to her, “Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?”
11 ၁၁ ထိုအခါအမျိုးသမီးက ``အရှင်၊ တစ်ယောက် မျှမရှိတော့ပါ'' ဟုပြန်လည်၍လျှောက်ထား ၏။ သခင်ယေရှုက ``ငါသည်လည်းသင့်အားအပြစ် ဒဏ်မစီရင်ပြီ။ သွားလော့။ နောက်တစ်ဖန်အပြစ် မပြုနှင့်'' ဟုမိန့်တော်မူ၏။]
“No one, Sir,” she answered. “Neither do I condemn you,” said Jesus “go, and do not sin again.”
12 ၁၂ တစ်ဖန်သခင်ယေရှုကဖာရိရှဲတို့အား ``ငါ သည်လောက၏အလင်းဖြစ်၏။ ငါ့နောက်သို့ လိုက်သောသူသည်အသက်၏အလင်းကိုရ ၍အဘယ်အခါမျှအမှောင်တွင်သွားလာ ရလိမ့်မည်မဟုတ်'' ဟုမိန့်တော်မူ၏။
Jesus again addressed the people. “I am the light of the world,” he said. “The person who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
13 ၁၃ ဖာရိရှဲတို့က ``သင်သည်ကိုယ့်အကြောင်းကို သက်သေခံလျက်နေ၏။ သို့ဖြစ်၍သင့်သက် သေခံချက်သည်မခိုင်လုံ'' ဟုဆိုကြ၏။
“You are bearing testimony to yourself!” exclaimed the Pharisees, “your testimony is not trustworthy.”
14 ၁၄ သခင်ယေရှုက ``ငါသည်ကိုယ့်အကြောင်းကို သက်သေခံသော်လည်းငါ၏သက်သေခံချက် သည်ခိုင်လုံ၏။ အဘယ်ကြောင့်ဆိုသော်ငါသည် အဘယ်အရပ်မှလာ၍အဘယ်အရပ်သို့ သွားမည်ကိုငါသိသောကြောင့်တည်း။ သင်တို့ မူကားငါအဘယ်အရပ်မှလာသည်ကို လည်းကောင်း၊ အဘယ်အရပ်သို့သွားမည်ကို လည်းကောင်းမသိကြ။-
“Even if I bear testimony to myself,” answered Jesus, “my testimony is trustworthy; for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from, nor where I am going.
15 ၁၅ သင်တို့သည်လူ့စံနှုန်းအရစစ်ဆေးစီရင် တတ်ကြ၏။ ငါမူကားမည်သူ့ကိုမျှမစစ် ဆေးမစီရင်ပြီ။-
You judge by appearances; I judge no one.
16 ၁၆ အကယ်၍ငါစစ်ဆေးစီရင်မည်ဆိုပါက ငါတစ်ဦးတည်းစစ်ဆေးစီရင်ခြင်းမဟုတ်။ ငါ့ကိုစေလွှတ်တော်မူသောခမည်းတော်သည် ငါနှင့်အတူရှိသောကြောင့်ငါ၏စီရင်ချက် သည်မှန်ကန်၏။-
Yet, even if I were to judge, my judgment would be trustworthy; because I am not alone, but the Father who sent me is with me.
17 ၁၇ သင်တို့၏ပညတ်ကျမ်းတွင် ``သက်သေနှစ်ဦး ထွက်ဆိုလျှင်အမှန်ဖြစ်၏'' ဟုဖော်ပြပါ ရှိ၏။-
Why, in your own Law it is said that the testimony of two persons is trustworthy.
18 ၁၈ ငါသည်ကိုယ့်အကြောင်းကိုသက်သေခံ၏။ ငါ့ ကိုစေလွှတ်တော်မူသောခမည်းတော်ကလည်း ငါ့အကြောင်းကိုသက်သေခံ၏'' ဟုမိန့်တော် မူ၏။
I, who bear testimony to myself, am one, and the Father who sent me also bears testimony to me.”
19 ၁၉ ထိုသူတို့က ``သင့်ခမည်းတော်ကားအဘယ် မှာနည်း'' ဟုမေးလျှောက်ကြ၏။ သခင်ယေရှုက ``သင်တို့သည်ငါ့ကိုလည်း ကောင်း၊ ငါ့ခမည်းတော်ကိုလည်းကောင်းမသိ ကြ။ အကယ်၍သင်တို့ငါ့ကိုသိပါမူငါ့ ခမည်းတော်ကိုလည်းသိကြမည်'' ဟုဖြေ ကြားတော်မူ၏။
“Where is your father, then?” they asked. “You know neither me nor my Father,” replied Jesus. “If you had known me, you would have also known my Father.”
20 ၂၀ ကိုယ်တော်သည်ဤစကားတော်များကိုဗိမာန် တော်အတွင်းအလှူခံသတ္တာများထားရာအခန်း ၌ ဟောပြောသွန်သင်စဉ်မိန့်တော်မူသတည်း။ သို့ ရာတွင်ကိုယ်တော်၏အချိန်မကျသေးသဖြင့် မည်သူမျှကိုယ်တော်ကိုမဖမ်းမဆီးကြ။
These statements Jesus made in the Treasury, while teaching in the Temple Courts. Yet no one arrested him, for his time had not then come.
21 ၂၁ ထိုမှတစ်ဖန်ကိုယ်တော်က ``ငါသည်ထွက်ခွာ သွားရမည်။ သင်တို့သည်ငါ့ကိုရှာကြလိမ့် မည်။ သို့ရာတွင်သင်တို့သည်မိမိတို့အပြစ် ၌သေကြလိမ့်မည်။ ငါသွားမည့်အရပ်သို့ သင်တို့မလိုက်နိုင်ကြ'' ဟုမိန့်တော်မူ၏။
Jesus again spoke to the people. “I am going away,” he said, “and you will look for me, but you will die in your sin; you cannot come where I am going.”
22 ၂၂ သို့ဖြစ်၍ယုဒအာဏာပိုင်များက ``ငါသွား မည့်အရပ်သို့သင်တို့မလိုက်နိုင်ကြဟုသူ ဆိုချေသည်။ သူသည်မိမိကိုယ်ကိုသတ်၍ သေမည်လော'' ဟုပြောဆိုကြ၏။
“Is he going to kill himself,” the people exclaimed, “that he says – ‘You cannot go where I am going’?”
23 ၂၃ ကိုယ်တော်က ``သင်တို့သည်အောက်ဘုံသားများ ဖြစ်ကြ၏။ ငါမူကားအထက်ဘုံမှလာ၏။ သင်တို့သည်ဤလောကသားများဖြစ်ကြ၏။ ငါမူကားဤလောကသားမဟုတ်။-
“You,” added Jesus, “are from below, I am from above; you are of this present world, I am not;
24 ၂၄ သို့ဖြစ်၍သင်တို့သည်မိမိတို့အပြစ်၌သေ ကြလိမ့်မည်ဟုငါဆိုသတည်း။ ငါသည်`ငါဖြစ် သည်အတိုင်းငါဖြစ်သည်' ကိုသင်တို့မယုံကြည် လျှင် သင်တို့သည်မိမိတို့အပြစ်၌သေလိမ့်မည်'' ဟုမိန့်တော်မူ၏။
and so I told you that you would die in your sins, for, unless you believe that I am what I am, you will die in your sins.”
25 ၂၅ ထိုသူတို့က ``သင်သည်အဘယ်သူနည်း'' ဟု မေးကြ၏။ သခင်ယေရှုက ``ငါအဘယ်သူ ဖြစ်သည်ကိုအစကတည်းကသင်တို့အား ငါပြောခဲ့ပြီ။-
“Who are you?” they asked. “Why ask exactly what I have been telling you?” said Jesus.
26 ၂၆ သင်တို့အကြောင်းနှင့်ပတ်သက်၍ငါပြောစရာ များစွာရှိ၏။ သင်တို့အားပြစ်တင်ရှုတ်ချစရာ လည်းများစွာရှိ၏။ ငါ့ကိုစေလွှတ်တော်မူသော အရှင်သည်သစ္စာတော်အရှင်ဖြစ်တော်မူ၏။ ထို အရှင်ထံမှငါကြားရသည့်တရားကိုသာ လျှင် ဤလောကသားတို့အားငါဟောပြော၏'' ဟုမိန့်တော်မူ၏။
“I have still much that concerns you to speak of and to pass judgment on; yet he who sent me may be trusted, and I speak to the world only of the things which I have heard from him.”
27 ၂၇ ကိုယ်တော်သည်ခမည်းတော်ကိုရည်မှတ်၍မိန့် မြွက်လျက်နေကြောင်းကို ထိုသူတို့မသိကြ။-
They did not understand that he meant the Father.
28 ၂၈ ထို့ကြောင့်ကိုယ်တော်က ``လူသားကိုမြေမှ မြှောက်ထားကြသောအခါမှငါသည်`ငါဖြစ် သည်အတိုင်းငါဖြစ်သည်' ကိုလည်းကောင်း၊ ငါ သည်ကိုယ်ပိုင်အခွင့်အာဏာအရအဘယ် အမှုကိုမျှမပြုမူ၍ မိမိအားခမည်းတော် သွန်သင်တော်မူသည့်အကြောင်းအရာများ ကိုသာလျှင်ဟောပြောသွန်သင်သည်ကိုလည်း ကောင်း သင်တို့သိကြလိမ့်မည်။-
So Jesus added, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will understand that I am what I am, and that I do nothing of myself, but that I say just what the Father has taught me.
29 ၂၉ ထိုမှတစ်ပါးလည်းငါ့ကိုစေလွှတ်တော်မူသော အရှင်သည်ငါနှင့်အတူရှိတော်မူ၏။ ထိုအရှင် နှစ်သက်တော်မူသောအမှုကိုငါသည်အခါ ခပ်သိမ်းလုပ်ဆောင်သည်ဖြစ်၍ ထိုအရှင်သည် ငါ့အားတစ်ကိုယ်တည်းစွန့်ပစ်၍ထားတော်မမူ'' ဟုမိန့်တော်မူ၏။
Moreover, he who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone; for I always do what pleases him.”
30 ၃၀ ဤသို့မိန့်တော်မူသည်ကိုကြားရသောလူ အမြောက်အမြားပင်ကိုယ်တော်ကိုယုံကြည် လာကြ၏။
While he was speaking in this way, many came to believe in him.
31 ၃၁ သခင်ယေရှုသည်ယုံကြည်သူတို့အား ``သင် တို့သည်ငါဟောပြောသွန်သင်သည်အတိုင်းပြု ကျင့်ကြလျှင် ငါ၏တပည့်အမှန်ဖြစ်ကြ၏။-
So Jesus went on to say to those who had believed him, “If you remain constant to my message, you are truly my disciples;
32 ၃၂ သမ္မာတရားကိုလည်းသိသဖြင့်ထိုသမ္မာ တရားသည်သင်တို့အားလွတ်လပ်စေလိမ့် မည်'' ဟုမိန့်တော်မူ၏။
and you will find out the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
33 ၃၃ ထိုသူတို့က ``အကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည်အာဗြဟံ၏ သားမြေးများဖြစ်ပါ၏။ အဘယ်အခါကမျှ တစ်ပါးကျွန်မဖြစ်ခဲ့ဘူးပါ။ `သင်တို့လွတ် လပ်လိမ့်မည်' ဟုအဘယ်ကြောင့်ဆိုပါသနည်း'' ဟုမေးလျှောက်ကြ၏။
“We are descendants of Abraham,” was their answer, “and have never yet been in slavery to anyone. What do you mean by saying ‘you will be set free’?”
34 ၃၄ သခင်ယေရှုက ``အမှန်အကန်သင်တို့အား ငါဆိုသည်ကား အပြစ်ကူးသူတိုင်းသည် အပြစ်၏ကျွန်ဖြစ်၏။-
“In truth I tell you,” replied Jesus, “everyone who sins is a slave to sin.
And a slave does not remain in the home always; but a son remains always. (aiōn g165)
36 ၃၆ သို့ဖြစ်၍သင်တို့အားသားတော်ကလွတ်လပ် စေလျှင် သင်တို့သည်ဧကန်အမှန်လွတ်လပ် ကြလိမ့်မည်။-
If, then, the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!
37 ၃၇ သင်တို့သည်အာဗြဟံ၏သားမြေးဖြစ်သည်ကို ငါသိ၏။ သို့ရာတွင်သင်တို့သည်ငါ၏သွန်သင် ချက်ကိုလက်မခံလိုသဖြင့် ငါ့ကိုသတ်ရန် ကြိုးစားကြ၏။-
I know that you are descendants of Abraham; yet you are seeking to put me to death, because my message finds no place in your hearts.
38 ၃၈ ငါသည်ငါ့ခမည်းတော်ထံမှသိရှိသောအရာ များကိုဟောပြော၏။ သင်တို့မူကားသင်တို့ အဖညွှန်ကြားသည့်အတိုင်းပြုကြ၏'' ဟု မိန့်တော်မူ၏။
I tell you what I have myself seen in the presence of my Father; and you, in the same way, do what you have learned from your father.”
39 ၃၉ ထိုသူတို့က ``အကျွန်ုပ်တို့၏အဖသည် အာဗြဟံဖြစ်ပါ၏'' ဟုဆိုကြ၏။ သခင်ယေရှုက ``သင်တို့သည်အာဗြဟံ၏ သားမြေးများဖြစ်ပါမူ အာဗြဟံကဲ့သို့ ပြုကျင့်ကြလိမ့်မည်။-
“Our father is Abraham,” was their answer. “If you are Abraham’s children,” replied Jesus, “do what Abraham did.
40 ၄၀ ဘုရားသခင်ထံတော်မှကြားနာခဲ့ရသည့် သမ္မာတရားကို သင်တို့အားဟောပြောသူငါ့ ကိုသတ်ရန်သင်တို့ကြံစည်လျက်နေကြ၏။ အာဗြဟံကားဤသို့မကျင့်ခဲ့။-
But, as it is, you are seeking to put me to death – a man who has told you the truth as he heard it from God. Abraham did not act in that way.
41 ၄၁ သင်တို့သည်သင်တို့အဖကဲ့သို့ကျင့်ကြ၏'' ဟုမိန့်တော်မူ၏။ ထိုသူတို့က ``အကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည်ဖခင်မဲ့မွေး သောသားများမဟုတ်။ အကျွန်ုပ်တို့မှာဘုရား သခင်တည်းဟူသောဖခင်တစ်ပါးတည်းရှိ၏'' ဟုဆိုကြ၏။
You are doing what your own father does.” “We are not bastards,” they said, “we have one Father – God himself.”
42 ၄၂ သခင်ယေရှုက ``ဘုရားသခင်သည်သင်တို့၏ အဖဖြစ်ပါမူ သင်တို့သည်ငါ့ကိုချစ်ကြလိမ့် မည်။ ငါသည်ဘုရားသခင်ထံတော်မှလာ၍ ယခုဤအရပ်သို့ရောက်ရှိနေ၏။ ကိုယ်ပိုင် အခွင့်အာဏာအရလာသည်မဟုတ်။ ကိုယ် တော်သည်ငါ့ကိုစေလွှတ်တော်မူ၏။-
“If God were your Father,” Jesus replied, “you would have loved me, for I came out from God, and now am here; and I have not come of myself, but he sent me as his messenger.
43 ၄၃ ငါဟောပြောသည့်တရားကိုအဘယ်ကြောင့် သင်တို့နားမလည်ကြသနည်း။ သင်တို့တွင် ငါ၏တရားကို နာယူနိုင်စွမ်းမရှိသောကြောင့် ပင်ဖြစ်၏။-
How is it that you do not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to listen to my message.
44 ၄၄ သင်တို့၏အဖသည်မာရ်နတ်ဖြစ်၏။ သို့ဖြစ်၍ သင်တို့အဖ၏အလိုသို့လိုက်၍သင်တို့ပြု ကြ၏။ မာရ်နတ်သည်အစကပင်လျှင်လူ သတ်သမားဖြစ်၏။ သူသည်သမ္မာတရား ကင်းမဲ့သူဖြစ်၍သမ္မာတရားတွင်မကျင် လည်၊ လိမ်လည်ပြောဆိုတတ်သူဖြစ်၏။ သူ သည်ကားမုသား၏အဖဖြစ်၍ မိမိပင်ကို ဇာတိသဘောအရမုသားကိုပြောတတ်၏။-
As for you, you are children of your father the devil, and you are determined to do what your father loves to do. He was a murderer from the first, and did not stand by the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he lies, he does what is natural to him; because he is a liar, and the father of lying.
But, as for me, it is because I speak the truth to you that you do not believe me.
46 ၄၆ ငါသည်အပြစ်ကူးသူဖြစ်ကြောင်းအဘယ် သူသက်သေပြနိုင်သနည်း။ ငါသည်သစ္စာစကား ကိုပြောဆိုလျှင်အဘယ်ကြောင့်သင်တို့မယုံ ကြသနည်း။-
Which of you can convict me of sin? Why then don’t you believe me, if I am speaking truth?
47 ၄၇ ဘုရားသခင်၏ထံမှဖြစ်ပွားသူသည်ဘုရား သခင်၏စကားတော်ကိုနားထောင်တတ်၏။ သင် တို့သည်ဘုရားသခင်၏ထံမှဖြစ်ပွားသူ များမဟုတ်သောကြောင့်နားမထောင်ကြ'' ဟု မိန့်တော်မူ၏။
The person who comes from God listens to God’s teaching; the reason why you do not listen is because you do not come from God.”
48 ၄၈ သူတို့က ``သင်သည်ရှမာရိအမျိုးသားဖြစ် သည်ဟူ၍လည်းကောင်း၊ နတ်မိစ္ဆာစွဲကပ်သူဖြစ် သည်ဟူ၍လည်းကောင်းငါတို့စွပ်စွဲသည်မှာ မမှန်ပါလော'' ဟုဆိုကြ၏။
“Aren’t we right, after all,” replied the people, “in saying that you are a Samaritan, and are possessed by a demon?”
49 ၄၉ သခင်ယေရှုက ``ငါသည်နတ်မိစ္ဆာစွဲကပ်သူ မဟုတ်။ ငါသည်ငါ့ခမည်းတော်ကိုချီးမြှောက် ၏။ သင်တို့ကားငါ့ကိုရှုတ်ချကြ၏။-
“I am not possessed by a demon,” Jesus answered, “but I am honoring my Father; and yet you dishonor me.
50 ၅၀ ငါသည်မိမိဘုန်းအသရေကိုမရှာ။ ငါ့ ဘုန်းအသရေကိုရှာ၍ငါ့ဘက်မှစစ်ကြော စီရင်တော်မူသောအရှင်တစ်ပါးရှိ၏။-
Not that I am seeking honor for myself; there is one who is seeking my honor, and he decides.
51 ၅၁ အမှန်အကန်သင်တို့အားငါဆိုသည်ကားငါ့ စကားကိုနာယူသူသည် အဘယ်အခါမျှ သေဘေးနှင့်တွေ့ကြုံရလိမ့်မည်မဟုတ်'' ဟု မိန့်တော်မူ၏။ (aiōn g165)
In truth I tell you, if anyone lays my message to heart, he will never really die.” (aiōn g165)
52 ၅၂ ယုဒအမျိုးသားတို့က ``သင်သည်နတ်မိစ္ဆာ စွဲကပ်နေသူဖြစ်ကြောင်းယခုအခါငါတို့ သိကြပါပြီ။ အာဗြဟံကားသေလွန်လေ ပြီ။ ပရောဖက်များသည်လည်းထို့အတူပင်။ သို့ပါလျက်သင်က `ငါ၏စကားကိုနာယူ သူသည်အဘယ်အခါမျှသေရလိမ့်မည် မဟုတ်' ဟုဆိုချေသည်။- (aiōn g165)
“Now we are sure that you are possessed by a demon,” the people replied. “Abraham died, and so did the prophets; and yet you say ‘If anyone lays my message to heart, they will never know death.’ (aiōn g165)
53 ၅၃ သင်သည်သေလွန်သူငါတို့၏အဖအာဗြဟံ ထက်ပင်ကြီးမြတ်ပါသလော။ ပရောဖက်တို့ သည်လည်းသေလွန်လေပြီ။ သင်သည်မိမိကိုယ် ကိုအဘယ်သူဟုထင်မှတ်ပါသနည်း'' ဟု မေးကြ၏။
Are you greater than our ancestor Abraham, who died? And the prophets died too. Whom do you make yourself out to be?”
54 ၅၄ သခင်ယေရှုက ``ငါသည်မိမိကိုယ်ကိုချီး မြှောက်ပါမူငါ၏ဘုန်းအသရေသည်အချည်း နှီးပင်ဖြစ်၏။ ငါ့ကိုချီးမြှောက်သူကားငါ၏ ခမည်းတော်တည်း။ ထိုအရှင်ကိုသင်တို့၏ ဘုရားသခင်ဟုဆိုကြ၏။-
“If I do honor to myself,” answered Jesus, “such honor counts for nothing. It is my Father who does me honor – and you say that he is your God;
55 ၅၅ သို့သော်လည်းထိုအရှင်ကိုသင်တို့မသိကြ။ ငါမူကားသိ၏။ အကယ်၍ငါမသိဟုဆို လျှင်ငါသည်သင်တို့နည်းတူလိမ်လည်ပြော ဆိုသူဖြစ်ပေအံ့။ ငါသည်ခမည်းတော်ကို အကယ်ပင်သိ၍ကိုယ်တော်၏စကားကို နားထောင်၏။-
and yet you have not learned to know him; but I know him; and, if I were to say that I do not know him, I should be a liar like you; but I do know him, and I lay his message to heart.
56 ၅၆ သင်တို့အဖအာဗြဟံသည်ငါကြွလာ မည့်ခေတ်ကာလနှင့်ကြုံကြိုက်ရမည်ဖြစ် ၍နှစ်ထောင်းအားရ၏။ ထိုခေတ်ကာလနှင့် ကြုံကြိုက်ရသောအခါ၌လည်းရွှင်လန်း ဝမ်းမြောက်၏'' ဟုမိန့်တော်မူ၏။
Your ancestor Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day; and he did see it, and was glad.”
57 ၅၇ ယုဒအမျိုးသားတို့က ``သင်သည်အသက် ငါးဆယ်မျှပင်မရှိသေး။ အဘယ်သို့လျှင် အာဗြဟံကိုမြင်ဖူးနိုင်ပါမည်နည်း'' ဟု ဆိုကြ၏။
“You are not fifty years old yet,” the people exclaimed, “and have you seen Abraham?”
58 ၅၈ သခင်ယေရှုက ``အမှန်အကန်သင်တို့အား ငါဆိုသည်ကားအာဗြဟံမမွေးဖွားမီက ပင်ငါရှိနှင့်၏'' ဟုမိန့်တော်မူ၏။
“In truth I tell you,” replied Jesus, “before Abraham existed I was.”
59 ၅၉ ထိုသူတို့သည်သခင်ယေရှုကိုပေါက်ရန် ကျောက်ခဲများကောက်ကြ၏။ သို့ရာတွင် ကိုယ်တော်သည်တိမ်းရှောင်၍ဗိမာန်တော်မှ ထွက်ခွာသွားတော်မူ၏။
At this they took up stones to throw at him; but Jesus hid himself, and left the Temple Courts.
