नीतिसूत्रे 29

1 १ जर एखाद्या मनुष्यावर खूप दोष असूनही, जो आपली मान ताठ करतो, तो अचानक तुटतो आणि त्यावर काही उपाय चालत नाही.

The man that with a stiff neck despiseth him that reproveth him, shall suddenly be destroyed: and health shall not follow him.

2 २ जेव्हा नीतिमानाची वाढ होते, लोक आनंदित होतात, पण जेव्हा दुर्जन अधिकार चालवतात तेव्हा लोक शोक करतात.

When just men increase, the people shall rejoice: when the wicked shall bear rule, the people shall mourn.

3 ३ ज्या कोणाला ज्ञानाची आवड आहे तो आपल्या पित्याला आनंदित करतो, पण जो कोणी वेश्येशी सोबत करतो तर तो आपल्या संपत्तीचा नाश करतो.

A man that loveth wisdom, rejoiceth his father: but he that maintaineth bar lots, shall squander away his substance.

4 ४ राजा न्यायाने देश दृढ करतो, पण जो कोणी लाचेची मागणी करतो तो त्याचे वाटोळे करतो.

A just king setteth up the land: a covetous man shall destroy it.

5 ५ जो कोणी मनुष्य आपल्या शेजाऱ्याची फाजील स्तुती करतो, तो त्याच्या पावलासाठी जाळे पसरतो.

A man that speaketh to his friend with flattering and dissembling words, spreadeth a net for his feet.

6 ६ दुष्ट मनुष्य आपल्या स्वतःच्या पापाने पाशात पडतो, पण नीतिमान गाणे गाऊन आनंदित होतो.

A snare shall entangle the wicked man when he sinneth: and the just shall praise and rejoice.

7 ७ नीतिमान गरिबांच्या वादासाठी विनंती करतो; दुर्जनाला तो समजण्याची बुद्धी नसते.

The just taketh notice of the cause of the poor: the wicked is void of knowledge.

8 ८ थट्टा करणारे शहराला पेटवतात; पण सुज्ञजन क्रोधापासून दूर निघून जातात.

Corrupt men bring a city to ruin: but wise men turn away wrath.

9 ९ जर सुज्ञ मनुष्याचा मूर्खाशी वाद असला तर, मुर्ख रागावला किंवा हसला तरी काही स्वस्थता नसते.

If a wise man contend with a fool, whether he be angry or laugh, he shall find no rest.

10 १० रक्तपिपासू सात्विकाचा द्वेष करतात, आणि सरळ मनुष्यास ठार मारण्यासाठी ते त्याचा शोध घेतात.

Bloodthirsty men hate the upright: but just men seek his soul.

11 ११ मूर्ख आपल्या मनातील सारा राग प्रगट करतो, पण शहाणा मनुष्य तो आवरून धरतो आणि शांत राहतो.

A fool uttereth all his mind: a wise man deferreth, and keepeth it till afterwards.

12 १२ जर अधिकाऱ्याने खोट्या गोष्टींकडे लक्ष दिले, तर त्याचे सगळे अधिकारी वाईट होतात.

A prince that gladly heareth lying words, hath all his servants wicked.

13 १३ गरीब मनुष्य आणि जुलूम करणारा या दोघांमध्ये एक गोष्ट समान आहे; परमेश्वर दोघांच्याही डोळ्यांना दृष्टी देतो.

The poor man and the creditor have met one another: the Lord is the enlightener of them both.

14 १४ जर राजाने गरीबांचा न्याय सत्याने केला, तर त्याचे राजासन सर्वकाळ स्थापित होईल.

The king that judgeth the poor in truth, his throne shall be established for ever.

15 १५ छडी आणि सुबोध ज्ञान देतात, पण मोकळे सोडलेले मूल आपल्या आईला लाज आणते.

The rod and reproof give wisdom: but the child that is left to his own will bringeth his mother to shame.

16 १६ जेव्हा दुष्ट वाढतात, तेव्हा अपराध वाढतात; पण धार्मिकांना त्यांचे वतन पाहावयास मिळते.

When the wicked are multiplied, crimes shall be multiplied: but the just shall see their downfall.

17 १७ आपल्या मुलाला शिस्त लाव आणि तो तुला विसावा देईल आणि तो तुझा जीव आनंदित करील.

Instruct thy son, and he shall refresh thee, and shall give delight to thy soul.

18 १८ जेथे कोठे भविष्यसूचक दृष्टांत न झाल्यास लोक अनावर होतात, पण जो कोणी नियम पाळतो तो सुखी होतो.

When prophecy shall fail, the people shall be scattered abroad: but he that keepeth the law is blessed.

19 १९ दास शब्दाने सुधारत नाही, कारण जरी त्यास समजले तरी तो प्रतिसाद देणार नाही.

A slave will not be corrected by words: because he understandeth what thou sayest, and will not answer.

20 २० कोणी आपल्या बोलण्यात उतावळा आहे अशा मनुष्यास पाहतोस काय? तर त्याच्यापेक्षा मूर्खाविषयी अधिक आशा आहे.

Hast thou seen a man hasty to speak? folly is rather to be looked for, than his amendment.

21 २१ जर कोणी आपल्या दासास बालपणापासून लाडाने वाढवले तर त्याच्या शेवटी तो त्रासदायकच होईल.

He that nourisheth his servant delicately from his childhood, afterwards shall find him stubborn.

22 २२ रागावलेला मनुष्य संकटे आणतो; आणि क्रोधी मनुष्याकडून पुष्कळ अपराध घडतात.

A passionate man provoketh quarrels: and he that is easily stirred up to wrath, shall be more prone to sin.

23 २३ गर्व मनुष्यास खाली आणतो, पण जो कोणी विनम्र आत्म्याचा असतो त्याचा आदर होतो.

Humiliation followeth the proud: and glory shall uphold the humble of spirit.

24 २४ जो कोणी चोराचा भागीदार होतो, तो स्वतःचाच शत्रू आहे; ते शपथेखाली ठेवले जातात आणि ते काहीच बोलू शकत नाही.

He that is partaker with a thief, hateth his own soul: he heareth one putting him to his oath, and discovereth not.

25 २५ मनुष्याची भीती पाशरूप होते, पण जो कोणी परमेश्वरावर विश्वास ठेवतो तो सुरक्षित राहतो.

He that feareth man, shall quickly fall: he that trusteth in the Lord, shall be set on high.

26 २६ पुष्कळजन अधिपतीची मर्जी संपादण्याचा शोध करतात, पण परमेश्वरच लोकांचा न्याय करतो.

Many seek the face of the prince: but the judgment of every one cometh forth from the Lord.

27 २७ अप्रामाणीक मनुष्याचा धार्मिकाला वीट येतो; आणि सरळमार्गी मनुष्याचा दुष्टाला वीट येतो.

The just abhor the wicked man: and the wicked loathe them that are in the right way. The son that keepeth the word, shall be free from destruction.
