नीतिसूत्रे 28

1 १ जेव्हा कोणीएक पाठलाग करत नसले तरी दुर्जन दूर पळतात, पण नीतिमान सिंहासारखे निर्भय राहतात.

The wicked run away even when no one is chasing them, but the good have the trusting boldness of lions.

2 २ देशाच्या अपराधांमुळे त्याचे पुष्कळ अधिपती होतात; पण जेव्हा समंजस आणि सुज्ञानी माणसाच्या हातून त्यांची सुस्थिती दीर्घकाळ राहते.

When a country is in rebellion, it has many rulers, but a ruler who is wise and knowledgeable provides strength and continuity.

3 ३ जो राज्य करणारा पुरुष गरिबांना जाचतो, तो काहीहीअन्न न ठेवणाऱ्या पावसासारखा आहे.

When someone poor oppresses the poor, it's like heavy rain that beats down the crops.

4 ४ जे कोणी नियम मोडणारे ते दुर्जनांची स्तुती करतात, पण जे नियम पाळतात ते त्यांच्याविरुद्ध लढतात.

People who reject the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law fight against them.

5 ५ दुष्ट मनुष्यांना न्याय समजत नाही, पण जे परमेश्वरास शोधतात त्यांना सर्वकाही कळते.

Evil people understand nothing about justice, but those who follow the Lord understand it completely.

6 ६ श्रीमंत पुरुष असून त्याचे मार्ग वाकडे असण्यापेक्षा, गरीब पुरुष असून जो त्याच्या प्रामाणिकपणात चालतो तो उत्तम आहे.

Better to be poor and have integrity than to be devious and rich.

7 ७ जो कोणी मुलगा नियमाचे पालन करतो तो हुशार असतो, पण जो खादाडाचा सोबती आहे तो आपल्या वडिलांना लाज आणतो.

If you keep the law, you're a wise son, but if you keep bad company you shame your father.

8 ८ जो कोणी आपले धन खूप जास्त व्याज लावून वाढवतो त्याची संपत्ती जो कोणी गरिबांवर दया करतो त्या दुसऱ्यासाठी साठवतो.

Anyone who gets rich through charging interest and profiteering is only storing it up for someone who is kind to the poor.

9 ९ जर एखाद्याने आपला कान नियम ऐकण्यापासून दूर फिरवला, त्याची प्रार्थनासुद्धा वीट आणणारी होईल.

God hates the prayers of people who disregard the law.

10 १० जो कोणी सरळांना बहकावून वाईट मार्गाकडे नेईल, तो आपल्या स्वतःच्या खड्ड्यात पडेल, पण जे निर्दोष आहेत त्यांना चांगले वतन मिळेल.

Those who lead good people astray into evil ways will fall into their own traps, but the innocent will receive a good reward.

11 ११ श्रीमंत मनुष्य आपल्या स्वतःच्या दृष्टीने शहाणा असतो, पण गरीब मनुष्य ज्याला समंजसपणा आहे त्यास शोधून काढतो.

The rich see themselves as wise, but poor people with insight see right through them.

12 १२ नीतिमानांचा विजय होतो तेव्हा तेथे मोठा नावलौकिक होतो, पण जेव्हा दुर्जन उठला, म्हणजे लोक स्वतः लपून बसतात.

When good people win, everyone celebrates, but when the wicked come to power, people hide.

13 १३ एखाद्याने आपले पाप लपवले तर त्याची उन्नती होत नाही, पण एखाद्याने त्याच्या पापांची कबुली दिली आणि ते सोडून दिले तर त्याच्यावर दया दाखवण्यात येईल.

People who hide their sins won't succeed, but those who confess and renounce their sins will be shown kindness.

14 १४ जर एखादा व्यक्ती वाईट करण्यात नेहमी घाबरतो तो सुखी आहे, पण जो कोणी आपले हृदय कठोर करतो तो संकटात पडतो.

Blessed are those who always respect the Lord, but those who are stubborn end up in a lot of trouble.

15 १५ गरीब लोकांवर राज्य करणारा दुष्ट अधिकारी, गर्जणाऱ्या सिंहासारखा किंवा हल्ला करणाऱ्या अस्वलासारखा आहे.

A wicked ruler lording it over poor people is like a roaring lion or a charging bear.

16 १६ जो कोणी अधिकारी ज्ञानहीन असतो तो क्रूर जुलूम करणारा आहे, पण जो अप्रामाणिकपणाचा द्वेष करतो तो दिर्घायुषी होतो.

An unwise ruler thoroughly extorts his people, but one who refuses to profit illegally will live long.

17 १७ जर एखादा मनुष्य रक्तपाताचा अपराधी आहे तर तो शवगर्तेत आश्रय शोधेल, पण त्यास कोणीही परत आणणार नाही. आणि त्यास कोणीही मदत करणार नाही.

Someone guilty of murder will go on running away from it until they die. Don't try and stop them.

18 १८ जो सरळ मार्गाने चालतो तो सुरक्षित राहतो, पण ज्याचे मार्ग वाकडे आहेत तो अचानक पडतो.

If you have integrity, you'll be kept safe, but if you live deviously, you'll fall.

19 १९ जो कोणी आपली शेती स्वतः करतो त्यास विपुल अन्न मिळते, पण जो कोणी निरर्थक गोष्टींचा पाठलाग करतो त्यास विपुल दारिद्र्य येते.

If you cultivate the land you'll have plenty of food, but if you chase fantasies you'll end up with nothing.

20 २० विश्वासू मनुष्यास महान आशीर्वाद मिळतात, पण जो कोणी झटपट श्रीमंत होण्याचा प्रयत्न करतो त्यास शिक्षा झाल्यावाचून राहणार नाही.

If you're trustworthy, you'll be richly rewarded; but if you try to get rich quick, you won't go unpunished.

21 २१ पक्षपात दाखवणे हे चांगले नाही, तरी भाकरीच्या तुकड्यासाठी मनुष्य चुकीचे करील.

Showing favoritism isn't good, but some people will do wrong just for a piece of bread.

22 २२ कंजूस मनुष्य श्रीमंत होण्याची घाई करतो, पण आपणावर दारिद्र्य येईल हे त्यास कळत नाही.

Envious people are in a rush to get rich; they don't realize they'll end up poor.

23 २३ जो कोणी आपल्या जिभेने खोटी स्तुती करतो; त्याऐवजी जो कोणी धिक्कारतो त्यालाच नंतर अधिक अनुग्रह मिळेल.

Honest criticism is appreciated later far more than flattery.

24 २४ जो कोणी आपल्या आई वडिलांना लुटतो आणि म्हणतो “ह्यात काही पाप नाही,” पण जो कोणी नाश करतो त्याचा तो सोबती आहे.

A man who robs his father and mother, and says, “It's not a crime,” is one step away from becoming a murderer.

25 २५ लोभी मनुष्य संकटे निर्माण करतो, पण जो परमेश्वरावर विश्वास ठेवतो त्याची भरभराट होते.

Greedy people stir up trouble, but those who trust in the Lord will be successful.

26 २६ जो कोणी आपल्या हृदयावर भरवसा ठेवतो तो मूर्ख आहे, पण जो कोणी ज्ञानात चालतो तो धोक्यापासून दूर राहतो.

People who trust their own minds are foolish, but those who follow wise ways will be kept safe.

27 २७ जो कोणी गरीबाला देतो त्यास कशाचीही उणीव पडणार नाही, पण जो कोणी त्यांना पाहूनदेखील न पाहिल्यासारखे करतो त्याच्यावर खूप शाप येतील.

If you give to the poor, you won't be in need; but if you look the other way, you'll have many curses.

28 २८ जेव्हा दुष्ट उठतात, माणसे स्वतःला लपवतात, पण जेव्हा दुष्ट नष्ट होतात तेव्हा नीतिमान वाढतात.

When the wicked come to power, people hide; but when they fall, the good do well.
