नीतिसूत्रे 26
As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest; so honor is not seemly for a fool.
As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.
4 ४ मूर्खाला उत्तर देऊ नको आणि त्याच्या मूर्खपणात सामील होऊ नकोस, किंवा देशील तर तू त्यांच्यासारखाच होशील.
Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like him.
5 ५ मूर्खाला उत्तर दे आणि त्याच्या मूर्खतेत सामील हो, नाहीतर तो आपल्या स्वतःच्या दृष्टीने शहाणा होईल.
Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.
He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, [and] drinketh damage.
The legs of the lame are not equal: so [is] a parable in the mouth of fools.
As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so [is] he that giveth honor to a fool.
[As] a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so [is] a parable in the mouth of fools.
10 १० एखादा तिरंदाज प्रत्येकाला जखमी करतो, तसेच जो मूर्खाला किंवा जवळून आल्या गेल्यास मोलाने काम करायला लावतो तो तसाच आहे.
The great [God] that formed all [things] both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.
As a dog returneth to his vomit, [so] a fool returneth to his folly.
12 १२ आपल्या दृष्टीने स्वतःला शहाणा समजतो असा कोणी तुझ्या पाहण्यात आहे का? त्यापेक्षा मूर्खाला अधिक आशा आहे.
Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? [there is] more hope of a fool than of him.
The slothful [man] saith, [There is] a lion in the way; a lion [is] in the streets.
[As] the door turneth upon its hinges, so [doth] the slothful upon his bed.
The slothful hideth [his] hand in [his] bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
The sluggard [is] wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
17 १७ जो दुसऱ्यांच्या वादात पडून संतप्त होतो, तो जवळून जाणाऱ्या कुत्र्याचे कान धरुन ओढणाऱ्यासारखा आहे.
He that passeth by, [and] meddleth with strife [belonging] not to him, [is like] one that taketh a dog by the ears.
As a mad [man] who casteth fire-brands, arrows, and death,
19 १९ तो अशा मनुष्यासारखा आहे जो आपल्या एका शेजाऱ्याला फसवतो, आणि म्हणतो, मी विनोद सांगत नव्हतो काय?
So [is] the man [that] deceiveth his neighbor, and saith, Am not I in sport?
Where no wood is, [there] the fire goeth out: so where [there is] no tale-bearer, the strife ceaseth.
21 २१ जसे लोणारी कोळसा जळत्या कोळश्याला आणि लाकडे अग्नीला, त्याचप्रमाणे भांडण पेटवायला भांडखोर लागतो.
[As] coals [are] to burning coals, and wood to fire; so [is] a contentious man to kindle strife.
22 २२ गप्पाटप्पा करणाऱ्याचे शब्द स्वादिष्ट पक्वान्नासारखे असतात. ते पोटाच्या आंतील भागापर्यंत खाली जातात.
The words of a tale-bearer [are] as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
Burning lips and a wicked heart [are like] a potsherd covered with silver dross.
24 २४ जो कोणी प्रबंधाचा द्वेष करतो तो आपल्या ओठांनी आपल्या भावना लपवतो, आणि तो आपल्या अंतर्यामात कपट बाळगतो;
He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;
When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for [there are] seven abominations in his heart.
[Whose] hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shown before the [whole] congregation.
Whoever diggeth a pit shall fall into it: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.
28 २८ लबाड बोलणारी जिव्हा आपण चिरडून टाकलेल्या लोकांचा द्वेष करते, आणि फाजील स्तुती करणारे तोंड नाशाला कारण होते.
A lying tongue hateth [those that are] afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
