शास्ते 9
1 १ यरूब्बालाचा मुलगा अबीमलेख, याने शखेमास आपल्या आईच्या नातेवाईकांजवळ जाऊन त्यास आणि त्याच्या आईच्या घरातील सर्व परिवाराला म्हटले,
And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem to his mother’s brothers, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother’s father, saying,
2 २ “तुम्ही कृपाकरून शखेमांतल्या सर्व मनुष्यास सांगा म्हणजे ते ऐकतील, यरूब्बालाच्या सर्व सत्तर मुलांनी तुम्हावर राज्य करावे किंवा एका मुलाने तुम्हावर राज्य करावे? यांतून तुम्हास कोणते चांगले वाटते? मी तुमच्या हाडाचा व मांसाचा आहे याची आठवण करा.”
Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are three score and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.
3 ३ तेव्हा त्याच्या आईचे नातेवाईक त्याच्याविषयी शखेमांतल्या सर्व मनुष्यांशी बोलले, आणि त्यांनी अबीमलेखास अनुसरण्याचे मान्य केले, कारण त्यांनी म्हटले, “तो आमचा भाऊ आहे.”
And his mother’s brothers spoke of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.
4 ४ त्यांनी त्यास बआल-बरीथाच्या घरातून सत्तर शेकेल रुपे दिले, आणि अबीमलेखाने बेकायदेशीर व बेदरकार स्वभावाची माणसे भाडयाने ठेवली. यास्तव ती त्याच्यामागे चालली.
And they gave him three score and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baalberith, with which Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him.
5 ५ तो आपल्या वडिलाच्या घरी अफ्रासास गेला, आणि त्याने आपले भाऊ म्हणजे यरूब्बालाचे सत्तर मुले एका दगडावर मारले; तरी यरूब्बालाचा धाकटा पुत्र योथाम राहिला, कारण तो लपलेला होता.
And he went to his father’s house at Ophrah, and slew his brothers the sons of Jerubbaal, being three score and ten persons, on one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.
6 ६ मग शखेमांतली सर्व पुढारी व बेथ मिल्लोतल्या सर्वांनी मिळून जाऊन शखेमामधल्या एलोन खांबाजवळ अबीमलेखाला राजा करून घेतले.
And all the men of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that was in Shechem.
7 ७ नंतर लोकांनी योथामाला हे कळविले, तेव्हा तो गरिज्जीम डोंगराच्या शिखरावर जाऊन उभा राहिला. “त्याने आपला स्वर उंच केला आणि त्यांना बोलला, शखेमाच्या पुढाऱ्यांनो, देवाने तुमचे ऐकावे म्हणून तुम्ही माझे ऐका.
And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said to them, Listen to me, you men of Shechem, that God may listen to you.
The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said to the olive tree, Reign you over us.
9 ९ तेव्हा जैतूनाने त्यांना म्हटले, झाडांवर अधिकार करायास जावे म्हणून, ज्याने देवाचा व मनुष्याचा सन्मान करीतात, ते माझे तेल मी सोडून देऊ काय?
But the olive tree said to them, Should I leave my fatness, with which by me they honor God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?
And the trees said to the fig tree, Come you, and reign over us.
11 ११ तेव्हा अंजिराने त्यांना म्हटले, ‘मी आपली गोडी व आपले चांगले फळ सोडून, झाडांवर अधिकार कारायास जावे की काय?’
But the fig tree said to them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?
Then said the trees to the vine, Come you, and reign over us.
13 १३ तेव्हा द्राक्षवेलाने त्यांना म्हटले, मी आपला ताजा रस जो देवाला व मनुष्यांना संतुष्ट करतो, तो सोडून झाडावर अधिकार करायला जावे की काय?
And the vine said to them, Should I leave my wine, which cheers God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?
Then said all the trees to the bramble, Come you, and reign over us.
15 १५ तेव्हा काटेरी झुडपाने त्या झाडांना म्हटले, ‘जर तुम्ही खरेपणाने मला अभिषेक करून राजा करीत असाल, तर येऊन माझ्या छायेचा आश्रय घ्या; नाही तर काटेरी झुडुपातून विस्तव निघून लबानोनावरल्याचे गंधसरूस जाळून टाकील.’
And the bramble said to the trees, If in truth you anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.
16 १६ यास्तव आता तुम्ही विचार करा की, खरेपणाने व प्रामाणिकपणाने वर्तणूक करून तुम्ही अबीमलेखाला राजा केले आहे का? आणि यरूब्बालासंबंधी आणि त्याच्या घराण्यासंबंधी जर तुम्ही बरे केले का आणि त्याच्या हातांच्या कृत्यांनुसार त्यास शिक्षा केली आहे काय?
Now therefore, if you have done truly and sincerely, in that you have made Abimelech king, and if you have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done to him according to the deserving of his hands;
17 १७ आणि विचार करा की, माझ्या वडिलाने तुमच्यासाठी लढाई केली, आपला जीव धोक्यात घालून तुम्हाला मिद्यानाच्या हातातून सोडवले आहे.
(For my father fought for you, and adventured his life far, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian:
18 १८ परंतु तुम्ही आज माझ्या वडिलाच्या घरावर उठला, आणि त्याचे पुत्र सत्तर माणसे, यांना तुम्ही एका शिळेवर जिवे मारले, आणि त्याच्या दासीचा पुत्र अबीमलेख याला शखेमातल्या मनुष्यांवर राजा करून ठेवले, कारण तो तुमचा भाऊ आहे.
And you are risen up against my father’s house this day, and have slain his sons, three score and ten persons, on one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maidservant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother; )
19 १९ तर तुम्ही आजच्या दिवशी यरूब्बालाविषयी व त्याच्या घराण्याविषयी खरेपणाने व प्रामाणिकपणाने जर वर्तणूक केली असेल, तर अबीमलेखामध्ये संतोष करा; त्यानेही तुमच्यामध्ये संतोष करावा.
If you then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice you in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:
20 २० परंतु जर तसे नाही, तर अबीमलेखातून विस्तव निघून शखेमातील व मिल्लोतील मनुष्यांना जाळून टाको, आणि शखेमातल्या व मिल्लोतील मनुष्यांतून विस्तव निघून अबीमलेखाला जाळून टाको.”
But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.
And Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dwelled there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.
When Abimelech had reigned three years over Israel,
23 २३ नंतर देवाने अबीमलेख व शखेमातली माणसे यांच्यामध्ये दुष्ट आत्मा पाठवला, म्हणून शखेमातले लोक अबीमलेखाशी कपटाने वागू लागले;
Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:
24 २४ देवाने हे केले, यासाठी की, यरूब्बालाच्या सत्तर पुत्रांच्या विरोधात केलेल्या हिंसाचाराचा बदला घ्यावा, व त्यांच्या रक्तपाताबद्दल त्यांचा भाऊ अबीमलेख दोषी ठरवला जावा; आणि त्याच्या भावांचा खून करण्यात त्यास मदत केली म्हणून, शखेम नगरातील लोकही जबाबदार धरले जावेत.
That the cruelty done to the three score and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid on Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and on the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brothers.
25 २५ नंतर शखेमातल्या मनुष्यांनी त्याच्यासाठी डोंगराच्या शिखरावर दबा धरणारे ठेवले, आणि त्यांनी आपल्याजवळून जो कोणी वाटेवर चालला, त्यास लुटले. हे कोणीतरी अबीमलेखाला सांगितले.
And the men of Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech.
26 २६ मग एबेदाचा पुत्र गाल आपल्या भावांसह आला, आणि ते शखेमात आल्यानंतर शखेमातल्या मनुष्यांनी त्याच्यावर विश्वास ठेवला.
And Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brothers, and went over to Shechem: and the men of Shechem put their confidence in him.
27 २७ तेव्हा त्यांनी शेतात जाऊन आपल्या द्राक्षमळ्यांची खुडणी करून द्राक्षांचा रस काढला आणि ते उत्साह करीत आपल्या देवाच्या घरात गेले, आणि तेथे खाऊन पिऊन त्यांनी अबीमलेखाला शाप दिला.
And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and stepped the grapes, and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech.
28 २८ तेव्हा एबेदाचा पुत्र गाल बोलला, “अबीमलेख कोण आहे की आम्ही त्याचे दास असावे? यरूब्बालाचा मुलगा व त्याचा कारभारी जबुल हे शखेमाचा बाप हमोर यांच्या कुळांतील लोकांचे दास असतील पण आम्ही अबीमलेखाची सेवा का करावी?
And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?
29 २९ आणि हे लोक माझ्या हाती असते तर किती बरे होते! म्हणजे मी अबीमलेखाला काढून टाकले असते. मी अबीमलेखाला म्हणेन, तू आपले सैन्य बाहेर बोलाव.”
And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase your army, and come out.
30 ३० त्या वेळेस त्या नगराचा अधिकारी जबुल याने, एबेदाचा पुत्र गाल याच्या गोष्टी ऐकल्या, आणि त्याचा राग पेटला.
And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindled.
31 ३१ मग त्याने कपट करून अबीमलेखाजवळ दूत पाठवून असे सांगितले की, “पाहा, एबेदाचा पुत्र गाल आपल्या भावांसोबत शखेमास आला आहे; आणि पाहा, ते तुझ्याविरूद्ध नगराला चिथावत आहेत.
And he sent messengers to Abimelech privately, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brothers be come to Shechem; and, behold, they fortify the city against you.
Now therefore up by night, you and the people that is with you, and lie in wait in the field:
33 ३३ मग असे व्हावे की, सकाळी सूर्य उगवताच तू उठून नगरावर हल्ला कर; मग पाहा, ते आपल्याजवळच्या लोकांसह तुझ्याकडे बाहेर येतील, तेव्हा जसे तुझ्या हाती येईल तसे तू त्याचे कर.”
And it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, you shall rise early, and set on the city: and, behold, when he and the people that is with him come out against you, then may you do to them as you shall find occasion.
And Abimelech rose up, and all the people that were with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies.
35 ३५ मग एबेदाचा पुत्र गाल, बाहेर येऊन नगराच्या वेशीजवळ उभा राहिला, आणि अबीमलेख आपल्याजवळच्या लोकांसोबत दबा सोडून उठला.
And Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from lying in wait.
36 ३६ तेव्हा गालाने त्या लोकांस पाहून जबुलाला म्हटले, “पाहा, लोक डोंगरांच्या शिखरांवरून उतरतात.” मग जबुल त्यास बोलला, “तुला डोंगराची छाया मनुष्यांसारखी दिसते.”
And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said to him, You see the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.
37 ३७ तेव्हा गालाने फिरून असे म्हटले की, “पाहा, देशाच्या उंचवटयावरून लोक उतरतात; आणि एक टोळी एलोन मौननीमाच्या वाटेवरून येत आहे.”
And Gaal spoke again, and said, See there come people down by the middle of the land, and another company come along by the plain of Meonenim.
38 ३८ मग जबुल त्यास बोलला, “तू आपल्या ज्या तोंडाने बोललास, अबीमलेख कोण की, आम्ही त्याची चाकरी करावी ते आता कोठे आहे? ज्या लोकांस तू तुच्छ केले, ते हेच की नाहीत? आता मी म्हणतो, तू बाहेर जाऊन त्यांच्याशी लढाई कर.”
Then said Zebul to him, Where is now your mouth, with which you said, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that you have despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.
And Gaal went out before the men of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech.
40 ४० तेव्हा अबीमलेख त्याच्या पाठीस लागला असता तो त्याच्यापुढून पळाला, आणि वेशीच्या दारापर्यंत बहुत लोक जखमी होऊन पडले.
And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and many were overthrown and wounded, even to the entering of the gate.
And Abimelech dwelled at Arumah: and Zebul thrust out Gaal and his brothers, that they should not dwell in Shechem.
And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech.
43 ४३ तेव्हा त्याने आपल्या लोकांच्या तीन तुकड्या केल्या; ते शेतात दबा धरून बसले, लोक नगरातून बाहेर येत आहेत हे त्याने पाहिले आणि त्यांच्यावर हल्ला करून त्याने त्यांना ठार मारले.
And he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field, and looked, and, behold, the people were come forth out of the city; and he rose up against them, and smote them.
44 ४४ अबीमलेख व त्याच्यासोबतच्या तुकड्यांनी हल्ला करून शहराचे दरवाजे रोखून धरले. इतर दोन तुकड्यांनी शेतात असलेल्या लोकांवर हल्ला करून त्यांना ठार मारले.
And Abimelech, and the company that was with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and the two other companies ran on all the people that were in the fields, and slew them.
45 ४५ अबीमलेखाने दिवसभर त्या नगराशी लढाई केली. त्याने शहराचा ताबा घेतला व त्यातील लोकांस जिवे मारले, आणि नगर उद्‌ध्वस्त करून त्यावर मीठ पेरून टाकले.
And Abimelech fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and slew the people that was therein, and beat down the city, and sowed it with salt.
And when all the men of the tower of Shechem heard that, they entered into an hold of the house of the god Berith.
And it was told Abimelech, that all the men of the tower of Shechem were gathered together.
48 ४८ तेव्हा अबीमलेख आपल्याजवळच्या सर्व लोकांसहीत सल्मोन डोंगरावर गेला, आणि अबीमलेखाने आपल्या हाती कुऱ्हाड घेऊन झाडाची फांदी तोडली, मग तिला आपल्या खांद्यावर उचलून घेऊन त्याने आपल्याजवळच्या लोकांस सांगितले, “जे मी केले ते तुम्ही पाहिले, तसे माझ्यासारखे लवकर करा.”
And Abimelech got him up to mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him; and Abimelech took an ax in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it, and laid it on his shoulder, and said to the people that were with him, What you have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done.
49 ४९ तेव्हा सर्व लोकांतल्या एकएकाने फांदी तोडून घेतली, आणि ते अबीमलेखाच्या मागे चालले; मग त्यांनी, त्या फांद्या बुरुजाला लावल्या व ते लोक आत असता बुरूजाला आग लावली; अशा प्रकारे शखेमाच्या बुरुजातले सर्व पुरुष व स्त्रिया मिळून सुमारे एक हजार इतके लोक मरण पावले.
And all the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put them to the hold, and set the hold on fire on them; so that all the men of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women.
Then went Abimelech to Thebez, and encamped against Thebez, and took it.
51 ५१ परंतु त्या नगरात एक मजबूत बुरूज होता, आणि सर्व पुरुष स्त्रियांसह म्हणजे त्या नगरातली सर्व माणसे त्यामध्ये पळून गेली आणि आपल्यामागे दरवाजा बंद करून बुरूजाच्या धाब्यावर चढली.
But there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut it to them, and got them up to the top of the tower.
52 ५२ नंतर अबीमलेख त्या बुरूजाजवळ आला आणि त्याच्याविरुध्द लढला, आणि बुरूजाला आग लावून जाळायला त्याच्या दाराजवळ गेला.
And Abimelech came to the tower, and fought against it, and went hard to the door of the tower to burn it with fire.
And a certain woman cast a piece of a millstone on Abimelech’s head, and all to broke his skull.
54 ५४ तेव्हा त्याने त्याची हत्यारे वाहणाऱ्या तरुणाला घाईघाईने हाक मारून सांगितले, “तू आपली तलवार काढून मला जिवे मार, नाही तर स्त्रीने त्यास मारले. असे माझ्याविषयी म्हणतील.” म्हणून त्यास तरुणाने त्यास भोसकल्यावर तो मेला.
Then he called hastily to the young man his armor bearer, and said to him, Draw your sword, and slay me, that men say not of me, A women slew him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died.
And when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they departed every man to his place.
56 ५६ तर अबीमलेखाने जी दुष्टाई आपल्या सत्तर भावांना जिवे मारण्याने आपल्या पित्याविषयी केली होती, तिचा देवाने त्याच्यावर सूड घेतला.
Thus God rendered the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did to his father, in slaying his seventy brothers:
57 ५७ आणि शखेमातल्या मनुष्यांचीही सर्व दुष्टाई देवाने त्यांच्या मस्तकावर उलटून लावली; याप्रमाणे यरूब्बालाचा पुत्र योथाम याचा शाप त्यास भोवला.
And all the evil of the men of Shechem did God render on their heads: and on them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.
