शास्ते 8
1 १ तेव्हा एफ्राइमी माणसे गिदोनाला म्हणाली, “तू हे आमच्याशी काय केले? तू मिद्यानाशी लढावयाला गेलास तेव्हा आम्हांला का बोलावले नाहीस?” असे ते त्याच्याशी जोरदारपणे वादविवाद करू लागले.
And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with Midian? And they did chide with him sharply.
2 २ तेव्हा तो त्यांना म्हणाला, “तुमच्या तुलनेत मी आता असे काय केले आहे की, त्याची तुलना तुमच्याशी करावी? एफ्राईमाच्या द्राक्षांचा सरवा हा अबीयेजेराच्या द्राक्षांच्या पिकांपेक्षा चांगला नाही काय?
And he said unto them, What have I now done in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?
3 ३ मिद्यानाचे राजपुत्र ओरेब व जेब यांच्यावर देवाने तुम्हाला विजय दिला; मी तुमच्या तुलनेत काय साध्य केले आहे?” तेव्हा तो अशी गोष्ट बोलल्यावर त्यांचा त्यावरला राग नाहीसा झाला.
God hath delivered into your hand the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.
4 ४ गिदोन व त्याच्याबरोबर जी तीनशे माणसे होती, ती यार्देन ओलांडून आली. ते दमलेले असतानाही त्यांनी त्यांचा पाठलाग केला.
And Gideon came to Jordan, [and] passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing.
5 ५ तेव्हा तो सुक्कोथातल्या मनुष्यांना म्हणाला, “माझ्याबरोबरच्या लोकांस तुम्ही कृपा करून भाकरी द्या; कारण ते दमलेले आहेत, आणि मिद्यानाचे राजे जेबह व सलमुन्ना यांचा पाठलाग मी करत आहे.”
And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, loaves of bread unto the people that follow me; for they be faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.
6 ६ तेव्हा सुक्कोथाचे अधिकारी म्हणाले, काय, जेबह व सलमुन्ना यांच्यावर तू आधीच मात केली आहेस काय? आम्हास माहीत नाही आम्ही तुझ्या सैन्याला भाकर का द्यावी?
And the princes of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thine army?
7 ७ तेव्हा गिदोन म्हणाला, “जेव्हा परमेश्वर जेबाह व सलमुन्ना ह्यांच्यावर मला विजय देईल, तेव्हा मी रानातल्या काट्यांनी व कुसळ्यांनी तुमचे देह फाडीन.”
And Gideon said: Therefore when the LORD hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into mine hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.
8 ८ नंतर तो तेथून पनुएलास गेला आणि तेथल्या लोकांबरोबर त्याच प्रकारे बोलला, परंतु जसे सुक्कोथातल्या मनुष्यांनी उत्तर दिले होते, तसेच पनुएलातल्या मनुष्यांनी त्यास उत्तर दिले.
And he went up thence to Penuel, and spake unto them in like manner: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered.
9 ९ तेव्हा तो पनुएलातल्या मनुष्यांना असे म्हणाला, “जेव्हा मी शांतीने माघारी येईन, तेव्हा मी हा बुरूज खाली ओढून टाकीन.”
And he spake also unto the men of Penuel, saying, When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.
10 १० तेव्हा जेबाह व सलमुन्ना कर्कोरात होते, त्यांचे सैन्यही त्यांच्याबरोबर होते; पूर्वेकडल्या त्यांच्या अवघ्या सैन्यांतले जे उरलेले होते ते सर्व पंधरा हजार होते; त्यांच्यातले जे लढणारे एक लाख वीस हजार पुरुष तलवारीने पडले होते.
Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of all the host of the children of the east: for there fell an hundred and twenty thousand men that drew sword.
11 ११ तेव्हा गिदोन नोबाह व यागबहा यांच्या वाटेने शत्रूच्या छावणीत पूर्वेस चढून गेला; आणि त्याने शत्रूच्या सैन्याचा बेसावध असताना त्यांच्यावर हल्ला केला.
And Gideon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smote the host; for the host was secure.
12 १२ जेबाह व सलमुन्ना हे तर पळाले, परंतु त्याने त्यांचा पाठलाग करून हे मिद्यानाच्या ह्या दोन राजांना पकडले, आणि त्यांच्या सर्व सैन्यात घबराहट पसरली.
And Zebah and Zalmunna fled; and he pursued after them; and he took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the host.
And Gideon the son of Joash returned from the battle from the ascent of Heres.
14 १४ तेव्हा त्याने सुक्कोथातला एक तरुण मनुष्य धरला, आणि त्याच्याजवळ सल्ला मागितला. त्या तरुण मनुष्याने त्यांना सुक्कोथाचे अधिकारी आणि त्यातले वडील अशा सत्याहत्तर मनुष्यांचे वर्णन लिहून दिले.
And he caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and inquired of him: and he described for him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, seventy and seven men.
15 १५ मग तो सुक्कोथातल्या मनुष्यांजवळ जाऊन बोलला, “हे पाहा, जेबाह व सलमुन्ना! याविषयी तुम्ही माझी थट्टा करीत बोलला, काय, जबाह व सलमुन्ना यांना आधीच जिंकले आहेस काय? आम्हास माहीत नाही तुझ्या सैन्याला आम्ही भाकर का द्यावी?”
And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, concerning whom ye did taunt me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thy men that are weary?
16 १६ नंतर त्याने त्या नगराच्या वडीलांना धरले, आणि रानातल्या काट्या व कुसळ्यांनी सुक्कोथातल्या मनुष्यांना शिक्षा केली
And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.
And he brake down the tower of Penuel, and slew the men of the city.
18 १८ मग जेबह व सलमुन्ना यांस तो म्हणाला, “जी माणसे तुम्ही ताबोर येथे मारली ती कशी होती?” तेव्हा ते बोलले, “जसा तू आहेस तशीच ती होती; त्यातला प्रत्येकजण राजाच्या पुत्रासारखा होता.”
Then said he unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom ye slew at Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king.
19 १९ गिदोन म्हणाला, “ते माझे भाऊ, माझ्या आईचे पुत्र होते; जर तुम्ही त्यांना जिवंत वाचवले असते, तर परमेश्वराशपथ मी तुम्हाला मारले नसते.”
And he said, They were my brethren, the sons of my mother: as the LORD liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not slay you.
20 २० तेव्हा त्याने आपला ज्येष्ठ पुत्र येथेर याला सांगितले, “तू उठून त्यांना मार. परंतु त्या तरुणाने आपली तलवार काढली नाही; कारण अजूनपर्यंत तो लहानच होता,” म्हणून तो घाबरला.
And he said unto Jether his firstborn, Up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword: for he feared, because he was yet a youth.
21 २१ तेव्हा जेबाह व सलमुन्ना म्हणाला, तू उठून आम्हांला मार, कारण जसा पुरुष, तसे त्याचे सामर्थ्य आहे. यास्तव गिदोनाने उठून जेबाह व सलमुन्ना यांना मारले, आणि त्यांच्या उंटाच्या गळ्यांमध्ये ज्या चंद्राच्या आकाराचे दागिने होते ते काढून घेतले.
Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise thou, and fall upon us: for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose, and slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and took the crescents that were on their camels’ necks.
22 २२ तेव्हा इस्राएलातल्या मनुष्यांनी गिदोनाला म्हटले, “तू, तुझ्या पुत्राने आणि तुझ्या नातवाने आमच्यावर राज्य करावे, कारण तू आम्हास मिद्यानाच्या तावडीतून सोडवले आहे.”
Then the men of Israel said unto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son also: for thou hast saved us out of the hand of Midian.
23 २३ तेव्हा गिदोन त्यांना बोलला, “मी तुमच्यावर राज्य करणार नाही, माझा पुत्रही तुमच्यावर राज्य करणार नाही, तर परमेश्वर तुमच्यावर राज्य करील.”
And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the LORD shall rule over you.
24 २४ तरी गिदोन त्यांना बोलला, “मी तुमच्याजवळ एक मागणे करीन की तुम्ही एकएकाने आपापल्या लुटीतले कुंडले मला द्यावे.” त्यामध्ये तर सोन्याची कुंडले होती, कारण ते इश्माएली लोक होते.
And Gideon said unto them, I would desire a request of you, that ye would give me every man the earrings of his spoil. (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)
25 २५ तेव्हा ते बोलले, “आम्ही देतोच देतो.” मग त्यांनी वस्त्र पसरले, आणि त्यातल्या एकएकाने आपापल्या लुटीची कुंडले त्यावर टाकली.
And they answered, We will willingly give them. And they spread a garment, and did cast therein every man the earrings of his spoil.
26 २६ आणि जी सोन्याची कुंडले त्याने मागितली त्यांचे सोने एक हजार सातशे शेकेल वजनाचे होते; चंद्रकोरी व बिंदुरूप अलंकार व मिद्यानी राजांची जांभळी वस्रे यांखेरीज आणि त्यांच्या उंटांच्या गळ्यांतले हार यांखेरीज ते होते.
And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred [shekels] of gold; beside the crescents, and the pendants, and the purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the chains that were about their camels’ necks.
27 २७ तेव्हा गिदोनाने त्याचे याजकाचे एफोद केले, आणि आपले नगर अफ्रा यामध्ये ते ठेवले, मग सर्व इस्राएलानी तेथे त्याची उपासना करून व्यभिचार केला; असे ते गिदोनाला व त्याच्या घराण्याला पाशरूप झाले.
And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went a whoring after it there: and it became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house.
28 २८ मिद्यानांचा तर इस्राएलाच्या लोकांपुढे मोड झाला, आणि त्यांनी आपले डोके आणखी वर केले नाही; असे गिदोनाच्या दिवसात देश चाळीस वर्षे स्वस्थ राहिला.
So Midian was subdued before the children of Israel, and they lifted up their heads no more. And the land had rest forty years in the days of Gideon.
And Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and dwelt in his own house.
And Gideon had threescore and ten sons of his body begotten: for he had many wives.
31 ३१ आणि शखेमात जी त्याची उपपत्नी होती तिच्यापासून त्यास पुत्र झाला, आणि त्याने त्याचे नाव अबीमलेख ठेवले.
And his concubine that was in Shechem, she also bare him a son, and he called his name Abimelech.
32 ३२ मग योवाशाचा पुत्र गिदोन चांगल्या म्हातारपणी मेला, आणि त्यास अबीयेजऱ्यांच्या अफ्रा येथे त्याचा पिता योवाश याच्या कबरेत पुरण्यात आले.
And Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchre of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
33 ३३ तेव्हा असे झाले की, गिदोन मरण पावल्यावर इस्राएलाच्या लोकांनी फिरून बाल देवामागे लागून व्यभिचार केला, आणि बआल-बरीथ ह्याला आपला देव केले.
And it came to pass, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went a whoring after the Baalim, and made Baal-berith their god.
34 ३४ असे इस्राएलाच्या लोकांनी आपला देव परमेश्वर, ज्याने त्यांना त्यांच्या चहुंकडल्या सर्व शत्रूंच्या हातातून सोडवले, त्याची आठवण केली नाही.
And the children of Israel remembered not the LORD their God, who had delivered them out of the hand of all their enemies on every side:
35 ३५ आणि यरूब्बाल जो गिदोन, त्याने इस्राएलावर जे अवघे उपकार केले होते, त्याप्रमाणे त्याच्या घराण्यावर त्यांनी दया केली नाही.
neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, [who is] Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shewed unto Israel.
