यहोशवा 8
1 १ परमेश्वर यहोशवाला म्हणाला, “भिऊ नको, धैर्यहीन होऊ नको; ऊठ, सर्व लढाई करणाऱ्या लोकांस बरोबर घे. आय नगरापर्यंत जा. पाहा, आयचा राजा, त्याचे लोक, त्याचे नगर आणि त्याचा देश मी तुझ्या हाती दिला आहे;
And the Lord said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou discouraged: take with thee all the people of war, and arise, go up to 'Ai; see, I have given into thy hand the king of 'Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land.
2 २ यरीहो आणि त्याचा राजा यांचे तू केले तेच आय व त्याचा राजा यांचे कर; मात्र त्यातील लूट व गुरेढोरे तुम्ही आपणासाठी लूट म्हणून घ्या; नगराच्या मागे सैन्याला दबा धरून बसव.”
And thou shalt do to 'Ai and to its king as thou hast done unto Jericho and its king; only its spoil and its cattle shall ye take for booty unto yourselves; but lay thee an ambush for the city in its rear.
3 ३ त्याप्रमाणे यहोशवाने सर्व योद्ध्यांसह आय नगरावर चढाई करून जाण्याची तयारी केली; त्याने तीस हजार, बलवान, व शूर पुरुष निवडून घेतले आणि त्यांना रात्री पाठवून दिले.
So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against 'Ai: and Joshua chose out thirty thousand mighty men of valor, and sent them away by night.
4 ४ त्याने त्यांना अशी आज्ञा केली, “पाहा, नगराच्या मागे जाऊन नगरावर दबा धरून बसा; नगरापासून फार दूर जाऊ नका, पण तुम्ही सर्व तयार राहा.
And he commanded them, saying, Behold, ye shall lie in wait against the city, in the rear of the city; go not very far from the city; and be ye all ready;
5 ५ मी आणि माझ्याबरोबरचे सर्व लोक त्या नगराजवळ येऊ. आणि ते पूर्वीप्रमाणे आम्हावर हल्ला करावयाला येतील तेव्हा आम्ही त्यांच्यापुढून पळायला लागू.
And I, and all the people that are with me, will approach unto the city; and it shall come to pass that, when they come out against us, as at the first time, we will flee before them;
6 ६ असे आम्ही त्यांना पळवीत नगराबाहेर दूर नेईपर्यंत ते आमच्या पाठीस लागतील, कारण त्यांना वाटेल, ‘पहिल्याप्रमाणेच आपल्याला घाबरून हे पळ काढीत आहेत.’ याप्रमाणे आम्ही त्यांच्यापुढे पळायला लागू;
And they will come out after us, till we have drawn them from the city; for they will say, They flee from us as at the first time: and we will flee before them.
7 ७ मग तुम्ही दबा धरणाऱ्यांनी उठून नगर काबीज करावे; कारण तुमचा देव परमेश्वर ते तुमच्या हाती देणार आहे.
And then shall ye rise up from the ambush, and take possession of the city; and the Lord your God will deliver it in into your hand.
8 ८ तुम्ही ते नगर काबीज करताच त्यास आग लावा. परमेश्वराच्या सांगण्याप्रमाणे त्याचे पालन करा; पाहा, मी तुम्हाला आज्ञा केली आहे.”
And it shall be, that as soon as ye have seized the city, ye shall set the city on fire; according to the word of the Lord shall ye do: see, I have commanded you.
9 ९ मग यहोशवाने त्यांना रवाना केले. ते आयच्या पश्चिम बाजूला बेथेल व आय यांच्या दरम्यान दबा धरून बसले. परंतु यहोशवा मात्र त्या रात्री आपल्या लोकांबरोबरच झोपला.
And Joshua sent them off: and they went to lie in ambush, and remained between Beth-el and 'Ai, on the west side of 'Ai; but Joshua lodged that night among the people.
10 १० यहोशवा भल्या पहाटेस उठला आणि त्याने सैन्य तयार केले, यहोशवा आणि इस्राएलाचे वडील आणि त्यांनी आय नगरावर हल्ला केला.
And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and numbered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people, toward 'Ai.
11 ११ त्यांच्याबरोबर सर्व योद्धे लढाई करावयाला गेले, आणि आय नगराजवळ पोहचल्यावर त्यांनी त्यासमोर उत्तरेस तळ दिला; ते व आय नगर यांच्यामध्ये एक दरी होती.
And all the people of war that were with him went up, and drew nigh, and came opposite the city, and encamped on the north side of 'Ai; and the valley was between them and 'Ai.
12 १२ त्याने सुमारे पाच हजार पुरुष आय नगराच्या पश्चिमेस बेथेल व आय यांच्या दरम्यान दबा धरावयला ठेवले.
And he took about five thousand men, and set them as an ambush between Beth-el and 'Ai, on the west side of 'Ai.
13 १३ त्याने नगरांच्या उत्तरेच्या ठिकाणी मुख्य सैन्य आणि पश्चिमेकडे सैन्याचे रक्षण करणारे ठेवून यहोशवा त्या रात्री त्या दरीत राहिला.
And the people, all the camp that was on the north of the city, and its ambush on the west of the city got ready; and Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.
14 १४ आयच्या राजाने हे पाहिले तेव्हा तो व त्याच्या नगरातले सगळे लोक पहाटेस लवकर उठून इस्राएलाशी सामना करायला अराबासमोरील यार्देनेच्या दरीकडे गेले. पण नगराच्या पिछाडीस लोक आपणावर दबा धरून आहेत हे त्यांना माहीत नव्हते.
And it came to pass, when the king of 'Ai saw this, the men of the city hastened and rose up early, and went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at the time appointed, before the plain; but he knew not that there was an ambush against him in the rear of the city.
And Joshua and Israel feigned themselves beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
16 १६ त्यांचा पाठलाग करण्यासाठी आय नगरातल्या सर्व लोकांस एकत्र बोलवण्यात आले; ते यहोशवाचा पाठलाग करीत नगरापासून दूरवर गेले.
And all the people that were in 'Ai were called together to pursue after them; and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.
17 १७ इस्राएलाचा पाठलाग करायला निघाला नाही असा कोणी पुरुष आय किंवा बेथेल येथे राहिला नाही; त्यांनी ते नगर पूर्ण सोडून देऊन आणि उघडे टाकून इस्राएलाचा पाठलाग केला.
And there was not a man left in 'Ai or Beth-el, that went not out after Israel; and they left the city open, and pursued after Israel.
18 १८ तेव्हा परमेश्वर यहोशवाला म्हणाला, “तुझ्या हाती असलेली बरची आय नगराकडे कर, कारण ते मी तुझ्या हाती देईन” त्याप्रमाणे यहोशवाने आपल्या हाती असलेली बरची नगराकडे केली.
And the Lord said unto Joshua, Stretch out the spear that is in thy hand toward 'Ai; for into thy hand will I give it. And Joshua stretched out the spear which was in his hand toward the city.
19 १९ त्याने आपला हात उगारताच दबा धरणाऱ्या सैन्याने वेगाने धावत जाऊन नगरात प्रवेश केला व ते काबीज केले आणि लगेच नगराला आग लावली.
And the ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he stretched out his hand; and they entered into the city, and took possession of it, and hastened and set the city on fire.
20 २० आय नगराच्या पुरुषांनी मागे वळून पहिले तो नगरातून निघणारा धूर आकाशात चढताना त्यांना दिसला, तेव्हा त्यांना इकडे किंवा तिकडे निसटून जाण्याचा मार्गच राहिला नाही; इकडे जे लोक रानाच्या मार्गाने पळत होते ते आपला पाठलाग करणाऱ्यांवर उलटले.
And the men of 'Ai turned [and looked] behind them, and they saw, and, behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven; and they had no power to flee this way or that way; and the people that had fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers.
21 २१ दबा धरणाऱ्यांनी नगर घेतले आहे व त्याचा धूर वर चढत असल्याचे यहोशवा व सर्व इस्राएलांनी पाहिले तेव्हा ते मागे उलटून आय नगराच्या मनुष्यांवर तुटून पडले.
For when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had seized the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended: they turned back, and smote the men of 'Ai.
22 २२ आणि दुसरे इस्राएल सैन्य जे नगरात होते ते त्यांच्यावर चाल करून बाहेर आले. आय नगराची माणसे इस्राएलाच्या मध्ये सापडली; कित्येक इस्राएल इकडे व कित्येक तिकडे होते; आणि त्यांनी त्यांना असे मारले की त्यांच्यातला कोणी वाचला किंवा निसटून गेला नाही.
And the others issued out of the city against them; so that the Israelites had them in the middle, some on this side, and some on that side; and they smote them, until there was not left of them one that remained or escaped.
And the king of 'Ai they caught alive, and brought him to Joshua.
24 २४ ज्या मोकळ्या रानात त्यांनी त्यांचा पाठलाग केला होता तेथे इस्राएलांनी आय नगराच्या रहिवाश्यांचा संहार केला आणि त्यांनी त्या सर्वांचा तलवारीच्या धारेने नाश केला. मग इस्राएल लोक आय नगरात परत आले. त्यावर त्यांनी तलवारीच्या धारेने हल्ला केला.
And it came to pass, that, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of 'Ai in the field, in the wilderness wherein they had pursued them, and when they were all fallen by the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, All the Israelites returned unto 'Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sword.
25 २५ त्या दिवशी आय नगरातली सगळी माणसे पडली, त्यामध्ये सर्व स्त्रिया आणि पुरुष मिळून ती बारा हजार होती.
And [the number of] all that fell in that day, both of men and women, was twelve thousand, all the people of 'Ai.
26 २६ आय येथील सर्व रहिवाश्यांचा समूळ नाश होईपर्यंत यहोशवाने नगराकडे बरची उगारलेला आपला हात मागे घेतला नाही.
And Joshua drew not back his hand, wherewith he had stretched out the spear, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of 'Ai.
27 २७ परमेश्वराने यहोशवाला आज्ञा केल्याप्रमाणे इस्राएलांनी त्या नगरांतली गुरेढोरे व इतर मालमत्ता मात्र स्वतःसाठी लूट म्हणून घेतली.
Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took as booty unto themselves, according to the word of the Lord which he had commanded Joshua.
28 २८ तेव्हा यहोशवाने आय नगर जाळून टाकले व त्याची कायमची नासाडी करून त्याचा ढीग केला; आजपर्यंत ते ठिकाण भकास आहे.
And Joshua burnt 'Ai, and made it a ruinous heap of desolation for ever, even unto this day,
29 २९ आय नगराच्या राजाला त्याने संध्याकाळपर्यंत झाडावर फाशी दिली व सूर्यास्ताच्या वेळी यहोशवाच्या आज्ञेने त्यांनी त्याचे प्रेत झाडावरून काढून नगराच्या वेशीजवळ फेकले आणि त्याच्यावर धोंड्यांची मोठी रास केली. ती आजपर्यंत तशीच आहे.
And the king of 'Ai he hanged on a tree until eventide; and at the going down of the sun, Joshua commanded, and they took his carcass down from the tree and cast it at the entrance of the city gate, and they raised over him a great heap of stones, [which is] even unto this day.
Then did Joshua build an altar unto the Lord, the God of Israel on mount 'Ebal,
31 ३१ परमेश्वराचा सेवक मोशे याने इस्राएल लोकांस आज्ञा केल्याप्रमाणे, “अर्थात मोशेच्या नियमशास्त्राच्या ग्रंथांत लिहिल्याप्रमाणे त्याने न घडलेल्या दगडांची वेदी बांधली.” त्या दगडांना लोखंडाचा स्पर्शदेखील झाला नव्हता. त्या वेदीवर त्यांनी परमेश्वरास होमबली अर्पिले आणि शांत्यर्पणाचे यज्ञ केले.
As Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no one had lifted up any iron tool; and they offered thereon burnt-offerings unto the Lord, and sacrificed peace-offerings.
32 ३२ तेथे इस्राएल लोकांदेखत यहोशवाने दगडांच्या शिळांवर मोशेने दिलेल्या नियमशास्त्राची नक्कल लिहिली.
And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.
33 ३३ परमेश्वराचा कराराचा कोश वाहणाऱ्या लेवी याजकांसमोर सर्व इस्राएल, त्यांचे वडील, अधिकारी आणि न्यायाधीश तसेच देशात जन्मलेले आणि उपरी हे कोशाच्या उजवीकडे व डावीकडे उभे राहिले. इस्राएल लोकांस प्रथम आशीर्वाद देण्यासंबंधी परमेश्वराचा सेवक मोशे याने पूर्वी जी आज्ञा दिली होती, त्याप्रमाणे निम्मे लोक गरीज्जीम डोंगरासमोर व निम्मे एबाल डोंगरासमोर उभे राहिले.
And all Israel, and their elders, and the officers, and their judges, stood on this side and on that side of the ark, opposite the priests the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, the stranger no less than the native born: half of them turned toward mount Gerizzim, and the other half of them turned toward mount 'Ebal; as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded, to bless the people of Israel at first.
34 ३४ त्यानंतर नियमशास्त्राच्या ग्रंथात लिहिलेली आशीर्वादाची व शापाशी सर्व वचने त्याने वाचून दाखवली.
And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, all, just as it is written in the book of the law.
35 ३५ इस्राएलाच्या संबध मंडळीसमोर व त्यांच्या स्त्रिया, मुलेबाळे व त्यांच्यामध्ये राहणारे उपरी यांच्यासमोर मोशेने दिलेल्या सगळ्या आज्ञा यहोशवाने वाचून दाखविल्या; त्यातला एकही शब्द त्याने गाळला नाही.
There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded, which Joshua did not read before all the congregation of Israel, with the women, and the little ones, and the stranger that walked in the midst of them.
