ईयोब 4

1 १ अलीफज तेमानीने उत्तर दिले आणि तो म्हणाला,

Then answered Eliphaz the Themanite, and said,

2 २ “जर कोणी तुझ्यासोबत बोलण्याचा प्रयत्न केला, तर तू दु: खी होशील का? परंतू बोलण्यापासून स्वत: ला कोण आवरेल?

If we essay to address a word to thee, wilt thou be wearied? yet who is able to refrain from speaking?

3 ३ पाहा, तू पुष्कळांना शिकवले आहेस. तू अशक्त हातांना शक्ती दिली आहेस.

Behold, thou hast [ere this] corrected many, and weak hands thou wast wont to strengthen.

4 ४ तू तुझ्या शब्दांनी खाली पडणाऱ्यांना सावरले आहेस. तू अशक्त गुडघे बळकट केले आहेस.

Him that stumbled thy words used to uphold, and to sinking knees thou gavest vigor.

5 ५ पण आता संकटे तुझ्यावर आली आहेत, आणि तू खचला आहेस, ते तुला स्पर्श करतात. आणि तू त्रासात पडतोस.

Yet now, when it cometh to thee, thou art wearied: it toucheth even thee, and thou art terrified.

6 ६ तुझ्या देवभिरूपणाची तुला खात्री नाही काय, तुझी सात्वीकत्ता तुझ्या आशेचे मार्ग नाही काय?

Is not then thy fear of God still thy confidence, thy hope equal to the integrity of thy ways?

7 ७ मी तुला विंनती करतो, कोणी निष्पाप कधी नाश पावला का? किंवा चांगल्या लोकांचा कधी नि: पात झाला का? याच्या विषयी तू विचार कर.

Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous destroyed?

8 ८ मी असे पाहीले आहे की जे घोर अन्यायाची नांगरणी करीतात, आणि कष्ट पेरतात ते तशीच कापणी करतात.

Even as I have seen, that those who plough wrong-doing, and sow trouble, have to reap the same.

9 ९ देवाच्या श्वासाने ते नाश पावतात. त्याच्या रागाने ते भस्म होतात.

Before the breathing of God they perish, and before the breath of his nostrils they come to their end.

10 १० सिंहाची गर्जना, सिंहाचा विक्राळ ध्वनी नष्ट होतो, तरूण सिंहाचे दात उपटले जातात.

The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.

11 ११ म्हातारा सिंह शिकार न मिळाल्यामुळे मरण पावतो, सिंहिणीचे छावे सगळीकडे पांगतात

The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the whelps of the lioness have to scatter themselves abroad.

12 १२ आता माझ्याकडे एक गुप्त निरोप आला, आणि माझ्या कानी त्याची कुजबुज पडली.

But to me a word came by stealth, and my ear took in a scarcely perceptible whisper thereof.

13 १३ जेव्हा लोक गाढ झोपेत असतात, मी रात्रीच्या दृष्टांताच्या विचारात असतो,

In intense thoughts out of visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men:

14 १४ मी घाबरलो आणि माझा थरकाप झाला. माझी सगळी हाडे थरथरा कापू लागली.

Dread came over me, with trembling, and it caused all my bones to shudder.

15 १५ एक आत्मा अगदी माझ्या चेहऱ्याजवळून गेला आणि माझ्या शरीरावरचे केस उभे राहिले.

Then flitted a spirit past before my face; the hair of my body stood up:

16 १६ तो आत्मा निश्चल उभा राहिला, पण त्याचा आकार मला दिसू शकला नाही, माझ्या डोळ्यांसमोर एक आकार होता, तेथे शांतता होती आणि वाणी असे बोलताना मी ऐकली.

It stood still, but I could not recognize its form; a figure was before my eyes, a slight whisper, then a [louder] voice I heard, saying,

17 १७ मर्त्य मनुष्य देवापेक्षा नितीमान असू शकतो काय? मनुष्य त्याच्या निर्मात्यापेक्षा अधिक शुद्ध असू शकतो काय?

Can a mortal be more righteous than God? or can a man be more pure than his Maker?

18 १८ पाहा, जर देव त्याच्या सेवकावर विश्वास ठेवत नाही. जर त्यास त्याच्या दूतांमध्ये काही दोष आढळतो,

Behold, in his servants he putteth no trust, and his angels he chargeth with folly:

19 १९ तर जे मातीच्या घरात राहतात त्यांच्याविषयी हे किती सत्य आहे, ज्यांच्या घरांचा पाया धुळीत आहे, ते पंतगासारखे तितक्या लवकर चिरडले जातात?

How much less in those that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed till they come to be eaten by the moth?

20 २० आणि सकाळपासून संध्याकाळपर्यंत ते नाश पावतात, ते कायमचे नष्ट होतात व कोणीही त्यांच्याकडे लक्ष देत नाही.

From morning to evening are they broken to pieces: without laying it [to heart] they perish for ever.

21 २१ त्यांच्या तंबूच्या दोऱ्या वर खेचल्या जात नाही काय? ते मरतात, शहाणपणा न मिळवताच मरतात.”

Behold, their excellency which is in them is torn away: they die, and this without wisdom.
