अनुवाद 5
1 १ मोशेने सर्व इस्राएल लोकांस एकत्र बोलवून सांगितले, “इस्राएल लोकहो, आज मी जे विधी आणि नियम सांगतो ते ऐका. तुम्ही ते शिका आणि त्यांचे काटेकोरपणे पालन करा.
And Moses called all Israel, and said to them: Hear, O Israel, the ceremonies and judgments, which I speak in your ears this day: learn them, and fulfill them in work.
The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.
3 ३ हा पवित्र करार परमेश्वराने आपल्या पूर्वजांशी नाही तर आपल्याशीच आज ह्यात असणाऱ्या आपल्या सर्वांशी केला होता.
He made not the covenant with our fathers, but with us, who are now present and living.
4 ४ त्या पर्वतावर प्रत्यक्ष आपल्यासमोर उभे राहून, अग्नीतून परमेश्वराने आपल्याशी तोंडोतोंड भाषण केले.
He spoke to us face to face in the mount out of the midst of fire.
5 ५ पण त्या अग्नीच्या भीतीने तुम्ही तो पर्वत चढला नाही. तेव्हा त्याचे म्हणणे तुमच्यापर्यंत पोचवायला मी तुम्हा दोघांच्यामध्ये उभा राहिलो. तेव्हा परमेश्वर म्हणाला,
I was the mediator and stood between the Lord and you at that time, to shew you his words, for you feared the fire, and went not up into the mountain, and he said:
I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Thou shalt not have strange gods in my sight.
8 ८ तुम्ही आपणासाठी कोरीव मूर्ती करु नका, वर आकाश, खाली पृथ्वी किंवा पाणी यातील कोणाचीही प्रतिमा करु नका.
Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any things, that are in heaven above, or that are in the earth beneath, or that abide in the waters under the earth.
9 ९ त्यांच्यापुढे झुकू नका किंवा त्यांची सेवा करु नका. कारण मी तुमचा देव परमेश्वर ईर्ष्यावान आहे. जे माझा द्वेष करतात, त्यांच्या अन्यायाबद्दल मी शासन करतो त्यांच्या मुलांना एवढेच नव्हे तर त्याच्या चार पिढ्यांना शासन करीन.
Thou shalt not adore them, and thou shalt not serve them. For I am the Lord thy God, a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon their children unto the third and fourth generation, to them that hate me,
10 १० पण जे माझ्यावर प्रेम करतील आणि माझ्या आज्ञा पाळतील त्यांच्यावर मी दया करीन. त्यांच्या हजारो पिढ्यांवर माझी कृपा राहील.
And shewing mercy unto many thousands, to them that love me, and keep my commandments.
11 ११ तुमचा देव परमेश्वर ह्याचे नाव व्यर्थ घेवू नका. जो परमेश्वराचे नाव व्यर्थ घेईल त्याची तो गय करणार नाही.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for he shall not be unpunished that taketh his name upon a vain thing.
Observe the day of the sabbath, to sanctify it, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee.
Six days shalt thou labour, and shalt do all thy works.
14 १४ पण सातवा दिवस हा तुमचा देव परमेश्वरा ह्याच्या सन्मानार्थ शब्बाथाचा दिवस आहे. म्हणून त्यादिवशी कोणीही काम करता कामा नये. तुम्ही तुमची मुले, मुली, किंवा दासदासी, परके, एवढेच नव्हे तर तुमचे बैल, गाढव इत्यादी पशू यांनी सुद्धा काम करु नये. तुमच्या गुलामांनाही तुमच्या सारखाच विसावा घेता आला पाहिजे.
The seventh is the day of the sabbath, that is, the rest of the Lord thy God. Thou shalt not do any work therein, thou nor thy son nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant nor thy maidservant, nor thy ox, nor thy ass, nor any of thy beasts, nor the stranger that is within thy gates: that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest, even as thyself.
15 १५ मिसर देशात तुम्ही गुलाम होता याचा विसर पडू देऊ नका. तुमचा देव परमेश्वर ह्याने आपल्या सामर्थ्याने तुम्हास तेथून बाहेर आणले, त्याने तुम्हास मुक्त केले. म्हणून शब्बाथ नेहमी विशेष दिवस म्हणून पाळा, ही तुमचा देव परमेश्वर ह्याची आज्ञा आहे.
Remember that thou also didst serve in Egypt, and the Lord thy God brought thee out from thence with a strong hand, and a stretched out arm. Therefore hath he commanded thee that thou shouldst observe the sabbath day.
16 १६ आपल्या आईवडीलांचा मान ठेवा. ही तुमचा देव परमेश्वर ह्याची आज्ञा आहे. हिचे पालन केले तर तुम्हास दीर्घायुष्य मिळेल. तुम्हास दिलेल्या प्रदेशात तुमचे कल्याण होईल.
Honour thy father and mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee, that thou mayst live a long time, and it may be well with thee in the land, which the Lord thy God will give thee.
Thou shalt not kill.
Neither shalt thou commit adultery.
And thou shalt not steal.
Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.
21 २१ दुसऱ्याच्या पत्नीची अभिलाषा बाळगू नका. दुसऱ्याचे घर, शेत, दासदासी, गुरे गाढवे, कशाचीही हाव बाळगू नका.”
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife: nor his house, nor his field, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is his.
22 २२ पुढे मोशे म्हणाला, ही वचने परमेश्वराने अग्नी, मेघ आणि घनदाट अंधार यातून तुम्हास मोठ्या आवाजात सांगितली. तेव्हा तुम्ही त्या पर्वतापाशी एकत्र जमला होता. एवढे सांगितल्यावर अधिक न बोलता त्याने ती दोन दगडी पाट्यांवर लिहून माझ्याकडे दिल्या.
These words the Lord spoke to all the multitude of you in the mountain, out of the midst of the fire and the cloud, and the darkness, with a loud voice, adding nothing more: and he wrote them in two tables of stone, which he delivered unto me.
23 २३ पर्वत धगधगून पेटलेला असताना तुम्ही त्याची वाणी काळोखातून ऐकलीत. तेव्हा तुमच्या वंशातील वडीलधारे आणि प्रमुख माझ्याकडे आले.
But you, after you heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, and saw the mountain burn, came to me, all the princes of the tribes and the elders, and you said:
24 २४ आणि म्हणाले, “आमचा देव परमेश्वर ह्याने आम्हास त्याचे तेज आणि महानता दाखवली आहे. त्यास प्रत्यक्ष अग्नीतून बोलताना आम्ही ऐकले. देव मनुष्याशी बोलला तरी मनुष्य जगू शकतो हे आम्ही पाहिले आहे.
Behold the Lord our God hath shewn us his majesty and his greatness, we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire, and have proved this day that God speaking with man, man hath lived.
25 २५ पण पुन्हा परमेश्वर देव आमच्याशी बोलला तर आम्ही नक्की मरू. तो भयंकर अग्नी आम्हास बेचीराख करील. आणि आम्हास मरायचे नाही.
Why shall we die therefore, and why shall this exceeding great Are consume us: for if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any more, we shall die.
What is all flesh, that it should hear the voice of the living God, who speaketh out of the midst of the fire, as we have heard, and be able to live?
27 २७ तेव्हा मोशे, तूच आपला देव परमेश्वर ह्याच्या जवळ जाऊन त्याचे म्हणणे ऐकून घे. आणि मग ते आम्हास सांग. आम्ही ते ऐकून त्याप्रमाणे वागू.”
Approach thou rather: and hear all things that the Lord our God shall say to thee, and thou shalt speak to us, and we will hear and will do them.
And when the Lord had heard this, he said to me: I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they spoke to thee: they have spoken all things well.
29 २९ ते माझे भय धरून मजशी आदराने वागले, माझ्या आज्ञा मनापासून पाळल्या तर त्यांचे व त्यांच्या वंशजांचे निरंतर कल्याण होईल. एवढेच मला त्यांच्याकडून हवे आहे.
Who shall give them to have such a mind, to fear me, and to keep all my commandments at all times, that it may be well with them and with their children for ever?
Go and say to them: Return into your tents.
31 ३१ पण मोशे तू इथेच थांब. त्यांना द्यायच्या सर्व आज्ञा, विधी नियम मी तुला सांगतो. त्यांना मी जो देश वतन म्हणून देत आहे तेथे त्यांनी ते पाळावे.”
But stand thou here with me, and I will speak to thee all my commandments, and ceremonies and judgments: which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land, which I will give them for a possession.
32 ३२ तेव्हा तुमचा देव परमेश्वर याने दिलेल्या आज्ञेप्रमाणे आपले आचरण राहील याची खबरदारी घ्या. त्यालाच अनुसरा.
Keep therefore and do the things which the Lord God hath commanded you: you shall not go aside neither to the right hand, nor to the left.
33 ३३ तुमचा देव परमेश्वर ह्याने दाखवलेल्या मार्गानेच चाला. म्हणजे तुम्हास वतन दिलेल्या प्रदेशात तुम्ही सुखाने व दीर्घकाळ रहाल.
But you shall walk in the way that the Lord your God hath commanded, that you may live, and it may be well with you, and your days may be long in the land of your possession.
