Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.
2 २ त्याने वर्तन योग्य प्रकारचे होते परमेश्वराची त्याच्याकडून जशी अपेक्षा होती तसेच तो वागला आपला पूर्वज दावीद याच्याप्रमाणे त्याने सत्कृत्ये केली. सन्मार्गावरुन तो ढळला नाही.
And he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, and walked in the ways of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.
3 ३ आपल्या कारकिर्दीच्या आठव्या वर्षीच तो आपला पूर्वज दावीद याच्या परमेश्वराच्या भजनी लागला. योशीयाने लहान वयातच हा मार्ग पत्करला आणि कारकिर्दीच्या बाराव्या वर्षी यहूदा आणि यरूशलेमेला शुद्ध केले, उंचस्थाने, अशेरा देवीचे खांब, कोरीव आणि ओतीव मूर्ती यांची मोडतोड केली.
For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father. And in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the Asherim, and the graven images, and the molten images.
4 ४ लोकांनी त्याच्या समोरच बआलदेवतांच्या मूर्ती फोडून टाकल्या. वरच्या भागात असलेल्या धूप जाळण्याच्या वेद्या योशीयाने उद्ध्वस्त केल्या. अशेराच्या मूर्ती ओतीव आणि कोरीव मूर्तीचाही त्याने पार चुराडा करून टाकला आणि हे चूर्ण, ज्या लोकांनी बआल देवतांसाठी यज्ञ केले त्यांच्या कबरीवर पसरले.
And they broke down the altars of the Baalim in his presence, and the sun-images that were on high above them he hewed down, and the Asherim, and the graven images, and the molten images, he broke in pieces, and made dust of them, and strewed it upon the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.
5 ५ बआल देवतांची पूजा करणाऱ्या याजकांच्या अस्थी देखील त्याने त्यांच्याच वेद्यांवर जाळून टाकल्या. अशाप्रकारे त्याने यहूदा आणि यरूशलेमला शुद्ध केले.
And he burnt the bones of the priests upon their altars, and purged Judah and Jerusalem.
6 ६ मनश्शे, एफ्राइम, शिमोन, नफताली येथपर्यंतच्या शहरांतून आणि त्यांच्या आसपासच्या पडीक जागेत त्याने हेच केले.
And so also in the cities of Manasseh and Ephraim and Simeon, even to Naphtali, in their ruins round about.
7 ७ त्याने वेद्या मोडून टाकल्या, अशेरा खांबांची मोडतोड करून चूर्ण केले धूपाच्या वेद्या उखडणे ही इस्राएलभरची मोहीम उरकल्यावर योशीया यरूशलेमेला परतला.
And he broke down the altars, and beat the Asherim and the graven images into powder, and hewed down all the sun-images throughout all the land of Israel, and returned to Jerusalem.
8 ८ योशीयाने राज्याची सूत्रे हाती घेतल्याच्या अठराव्या वर्षी शाफान, मासेया, आणि योवाह यांना परमेश्वर देवाचे मंदिर दुरुस्तीसाठी पाठवले. शाफानच्या पित्याचे नाव असल्या, मासेया हा नगराचा कारभारी होता आणि योवाहाचे पिता योवाहाज. योवाह हा बखरकार होता. यहूदा आणि मंदिर यांच्या शुद्धीकरणासाठी मंदिराच्या डागडुजीचे हे काम योशीयाने अंगावर घेतले.
Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of Jehovah his God.
9 ९ ही माणसे हिल्कीया या मुख्य याजकाकडे गेली. मनश्शे, एफ्राइम आणि उर्वरित सर्व इस्राएलातून लोकांनी देवाच्या मंदिरासाठी दिलेला पैसा लेवी द्वारपालांनी जमा केला होता. सर्व यहूदा प्रांत, बन्यामिनचा प्रदेश आणि यरूशलेमेतून देखील त्यांनी पैसे जमा केले होते. ही रक्कम हिल्कीयाकडे त्यांनी सुपूर्त केली.
And they came to Hilkiah the high priest, and delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had gathered by the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and by all the remnant of Israel, and by all Judah and Benjamin, and by the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
10 १० मग, परमेश्वराच्या मंदिराच्या बांधकामावर देखरेख करणाऱ्यांना लेवींनी हे पैसे दिले आणि परमेश्वराच्या मंदिराची दुरुस्ती करण्यासाठी कामगारांना दिले.
And they delivered it into the hand of the workmen who had the oversight of the house of Jehovah. And the workmen who labored in the house of Jehovah gave it to mend and repair the house.
11 ११ तासलेले चिरे, लाकूड यांच्या खरेदीसाठी गवंडी, सुतार या लोकांस पैसे देण्यात आले. मंदिराच्या दुरुस्तीसाठी आणि कडीपाटासाठी लाकूड लागले. यहूदाचा राजांनी यापूर्वी मंदिराची योग्य देखभाल न केल्यामुळे मंदिराच्या इमारती जीर्ण झाल्या होत्या.
Even to the carpenters and to the builders they gave it, to buy hewn stone, and timber for couplings, and to make beams for the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.
12 १२ कामगारांनी मन लावून काम केले. यहथ व ओबद्या हे मरारी कुळातील लेवी देखरेख करत होते. कहाथी वंशातील जखऱ्या आणि मशुल्लाम हे ही देखरेखीच्या कामावर होते. वाद्ये वाजवण्यात निपुण असलेले लेवीसुध्दा होते.
And the men did the work faithfully. And the overseers of them were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward, and others of the Levites, all who were skilful with instruments of music.
13 १३ ते कारागिरांवर आणि मजुरांवर देखरेख करत होते. चिटणीस, कारभारी आणि द्वारपाल म्हणून काही लेवी काम करत होते.
Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and set forward all who did the work in every manner of service. And of the Levites there were scribes, and officers, and porters.
14 १४ परमेश्वराच्या मंदिरातील पैसा लेवी बाहेर आणत असताना हिल्कीया या याजकाला मोशेद्वारे आलेला नियमशास्त्राचा ग्रंथ सापडला.
And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of Jehovah, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of Jehovah given by Moses.
15 १५ हिल्कीयाने शाफान चिटणीसास असे सांगितले कि, “परमेश्वराच्या मंदिरात मला नियमशास्त्राचा ग्रंथ सापडला आहे.” मग हिल्कीयाने शाफानाला तो ग्रंथ दिला.
And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of Jehovah. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.
And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and moreover brought back word to the king, saying, All that was committed to thy servants, they are doing.
And they have emptied out the money that was found in the house of Jehovah, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and into the hand of the workmen.
18 १८ शाफान पुढे राजाला म्हणाला, “याजक हिल्कीयाने मला हे पुस्तक दिले आहे.” शाफानने मग राजाला पुस्तकातील मजकूर वाचून दाखवला.
And Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest has delivered a book to me. And Shaphan read therein before the king.
And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he tore his clothes.
20 २० आणि हिल्कीया, शाफानचा पुत्र अहीकाम, मीखाचा पुत्र अब्दोन, चिटणीस शाफान आणि आपला सेवक असाया यांना योशीयाने आज्ञा केली की.
And the king commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Abdon the son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying,
21 २१ “माझ्या आणि इस्राएल व यहूदा येथे आता शिल्लक असलेल्या लोकांच्या वतीने परमेश्वरास जाऊन विचारा. या पुस्तकातील वचनांविषयी त्यास विचारा. आपल्या पूर्वजांनी परमेश्वराचे म्हणणे न जुमानल्यामुळे परमेश्वराचा आपल्यावर कोप झाला आहे. आपल्या पूर्वजांचे वर्तन या पुस्तकातील वचनांना अनुसरुन नव्हते.”
Go ye, inquire of Jehovah for me, and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found. For great is the wrath of Jehovah that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of Jehovah, to do according to all that is written in this book.
22 २२ हिल्कीया आणि राजाचे सेवक हुल्दा नावाच्या संदेष्टीकडे गेले. हुल्दा ही शल्लूमची पत्नीशल्लूम ताकहतचा आणि ताकहत इस्त्राचा पुत्र. इस्त्रा राजाच्या वस्त्रागाराचा प्रमुख होता. हुल्दा यरूशलेमेच्या नवीन भागात राहत होती. हिल्कीया आणि राजाचे सेवकांनी तिला सर्व जे घडले ते सांगितले.
So Hilkiah, and those whom the king had commanded, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the second quarter), and they spoke to her to that effect.
And she said to them, Thus says Jehovah, the God of Israel: Tell ye the man who sent you to me,
24 २४ परमेश्वर म्हणतो, “या प्रदेशावर आणि इथे राहणाऱ्या लोकांवर मी कोप आणणार आहे.” यहूदाच्या राजाला जे पुस्तक वाचून दाखवण्यात आले. त्यातील मजकुरात आहेत ती सर्व संकटे त्यांच्यावर ओढवतील.
Thus says Jehovah, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of it, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah.
25 २५ माझ्याकडे पाठ फिरवून इतर देवतांपुढे त्यांनी धूप जाळला म्हणून मी असे करणार आहे. आपल्या दुष्कृत्यांमुळे लोकांनी मला सतंप्त केले आहे. या क्रोधाचा अंगार त्यांच्यावर बरसेल आणि तो शांत होणार नाही.
Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands. Therefore my wrath is poured out upon this place, and it shall not be quenched.
26 २६ पण यहूदाचा राजा योशीया याला सांग, त्यानेच तुला माझ्याकडे पाठवले आहे की तू नुकतेच जे ऐकलेस त्याविषयी इस्राएलाचा परमेश्वर देव म्हणतो:
But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Jehovah, thus ye shall say to him, Thus says Jehovah, the God of Israel: As concerning the words which thou have heard,
27 २७ योशीयाने, पश्चातापाने देवासमोर विनम्र झाला. खेदाने आपले कपडे फाडलेस. तू रडलास. तू मृदू अंत: करणाचा असल्यामुळे
because thy heart was tender, and thou humbled thyself before God when thou heard his words against this place, and against the inhabitants of it, and have humbled thyself before me, and have torn thy clothes, and wept before me, I also have heard thee, says Jehovah.
28 २८ तुझ्या पूर्वजांकडे मी तुला नेईन. तुला शांत मरण येईल. या प्रदेशावर आणि लोकांवर जी संकटे कोसळतील ती तुला पाहायला लागणार नाहीत. हिल्कीया आणि राजाचे सेवक यासर्वांनी हा निरोप राजाला येऊन सांगितला.
Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shall be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of it. And they brought back word to the king.
Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
30 ३० राजा परमेश्वराच्या मंदिरात गेला. यहूदातील सर्व प्रजा, यरूशलेममधील सर्व थोर तसेच सामान्य माणसे, याजक आणि लेवी हे सर्व राजासोबत होते. परमेश्वराच्या मंदिरात सापडलेल्या कराराच्या ग्रंथातील सर्व वचने तेथे राजाने त्यांना वाचून दाखवली.
And the king went up to the house of Jehovah, and all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, both great and small. And he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of Jehovah.
31 ३१ मग राजा उभा राहिला. त्याने परमेश्वराशी करार केला. परमेश्वरास अनुसरायचे, त्याचे आज्ञा, नियम आणि विधी पाळायचे त्याने कबूल केले. हे सर्व त्याने मन: पूर्वक करायचे मान्य केले. नियमशास्त्रातील वचनांप्रमाणे वागायचे कबूल केले.
And the king stood in his place, and made a covenant before Jehovah, to walk after Jehovah, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.
32 ३२ मग त्याने यरूशलेम आणि बन्यामीन मधील लोकांसही या करारपालनात सामील करून घेतले. यरूशलेमचे लोक आपल्या पूर्वजांच्या देवाचा करार पाळू लागले.
And he caused all who were found in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand to it. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.
33 ३३ इस्राएलमध्ये वेगवेगळ्या देशांमधील विविध मूर्ती होत्या. पण त्या सर्व अनिष्ट मूर्ती योशीयाने फोडून तोडून टाकल्या. इस्राएल लोकांस त्याने परमेश्वर देवाची सेवा करायला लावले. आणि योशीया जिवंत असेपर्यंत लोक आपल्या पूर्वजांचा देव परमेश्वर याचीच उपासना करत होते.
And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the sons of Israel, and made all who were found in Israel to serve, even to serve Jehovah their God. All his days they did not depart from following Jehovah, the God of their fathers.
