1 १ अमस्या राजा झाला तेव्हा पंचवीस वर्षांचा होता. नंतर त्याने यरूशलेमामध्ये एकोणतीस वर्षे राज्य केले. याच्या आईचे नाव यहोअदान, ती यरूशलेमची होती.
Amaziah [was] twenty and five years old [when] he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name [was] Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
And he did [that which was] right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.
Now it came to pass, when the kingdom was established to him, that he slew his servants that had killed the king his father.
4 ४ पण त्यांच्या पुत्रांना त्याने ठार केले नाही कारण याबाबतीत मोशेच्या नियमशास्त्रातली आज्ञा त्याने पाळली. परमेश्वराची आज्ञा अशी आहे, “मुलांच्या अपराधासाठी मातापितांना आणि मातापित्यांच्या अपराधासाठी पुत्रांना मृत्युदंड देऊ नये. ज्याच्या हातून अपराध झाला त्या व्यक्तीलाच देहदंड व्हावा.”
But he slew not their children, but [did] as [it is] written in the law in the book of Moses, where the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.
5 ५ अमस्याने सर्व यहूदा लोकांस एकत्र केले आणि त्यांच्या घराण्यांवर सेनापती आणि सेनानायक यांच्या नेमणुका केल्या. समस्त यहूदा आणि बन्यामीन सैनिकांवर या प्रमुखांचा अंमल होता. युध्दात भाग घेण्यासाठी किमान वीस आणि त्यापुढील वयाचे सैनिक निवडले. भाले आणि ढालींनी सज्ज असे एकंदर तीन लाख सैनिक युध्दाला तयार होते.
Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and made them captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, according to the houses of [their] fathers, throughout all Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and above, and found them three hundred thousand choice [men, able] to go forth to war, that could handle spear and shield.
6 ६ यांच्याखेरीज आणखी एक लाख सैन्याची कुमक अमस्याने इस्राएलकडून मागवली. त्यासाठी त्याने शंभर किक्कार चांदी एवढी किंमत मोजली.
He hired also an hundred thousand mighty men of valour out of Israel for an hundred talents of silver.
7 ७ पण यावेळी देवाचा एक मनुष्य अमस्याकडे येऊन त्यास म्हणाला, “हे राजा, इस्राएलच्या सैन्याला आपल्याबरोबर घेऊ नकोस. एफ्राइमाच्या वंशजांना म्हणजेच इस्राएलच्या लोकांस परमेश्वराची साथ नाही.
But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for the LORD [is] not with Israel, [to wit, with] all the children of Ephraim.
But if thou wilt go, do [it], be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.
9 ९ यावर अमस्या त्या देवाच्या मनुष्यास म्हणाला, “पण इस्राएली सैन्याला मी शंभर किक्कार चांदी देऊन बसलो आहे, त्याचे काय?” देवाचा मनुष्य म्हणाला, “परमेश्वराकडे अलोट संपत्ती आहे, तो तुला त्यापेक्षा कितीतरी जास्त देऊ शकेल.”
And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The LORD is able to give thee much more than this.
10 १० तेव्हा अमस्याने इस्राएलच्या सैन्याला एफ्राइमला परत पाठवले, या कृत्यामुळे इस्राएली सैन्य, यहूदाचा राजा आणि यहूदाचे लोक यांच्यावर संतापले आणि रागाने घरी परतले.
Then Amaziah separated them, [to wit], the army that was come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: wherefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in great anger.
11 ११ यानंतर अमस्याने मोठे धाडस करून अदोम देशातील मिठाच्या खोऱ्यावर हल्ला चढवला. अमस्याच्या सैन्याने याठिकाणी सेईर मधील दहा हजार लोकांस ठार केले.
And Amaziah strengthened himself, and led forth his people, and went to the valley of salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand.
12 १२ यहूदी लोकांनी दहा हजार जणांना बंदिवान केले. त्यांना धरुन पर्वत माथ्यावर नेले आणि एवढ्या उंचीवरुन त्यांचा कडेलोट केला. खालच्या दगडधोंड्यांवर त्यांचे देह छिन्नविच्छिन्न होऊन पडले.
And [other] ten thousand [left] alive did the children of Judah carry away captive, and brought them unto the top of the rock, and cast them down from the top of the rock, that they all were broken in pieces.
13 १३ नेमक्या याचवेळी अमस्याने परत पाठवलेल्या इस्राएली सैन्याने यहूदातील काही नगरांवर हल्ला चढवला. त्यांनी बेथ-होरोनपासून सरळ शोमरोनपर्यंत गावे उद्ध्वस्त केली, तीन हजार लोकांस जिवे मारले आणि मौल्यवान चीजवस्तू लुटल्या. अमस्याने आपल्याला लढाईत सामील करून न घेतल्यामुळे हे इस्राएली सैन्य भडकले होते.
But the soldiers of the army which Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and smote three thousand of them, and took much spoil.
14 १४ अदोम्यांचा पाडाव करून अमस्या आपल्या नगरात परतला. येताना त्याने सेईर येथील लोकांच्या देवाच्या मूर्ती बरोबर आणल्या आणि त्यांची पूजाअर्चा सुरू केली. या दैवतांना वंदन करून तो त्यांच्यापुढे धूप जाळू लागला.
Now it came to pass, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up [to be] his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them.
15 १५ या कृतीमुळे परमेश्वराचा अमस्यावर कोप झाला. परमेश्वराने संदेष्ट्याला अमस्याकडे पाठवले. संदेष्टा राजाला म्हणाला, “अमस्या, त्या लोकांच्या दैवतांची पूजा तू का करत आहेस? त्या दैवतांना तर स्वत: च्याच लोकांचे तुझ्यापासून रक्षण करता आले नाही.”
Wherefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?
16 १६ अमस्या संदेष्ट्याच्या या बोलण्यावर म्हणाला, “आम्ही तुला राजाचा सल्लागार म्हणून नेमलेले नाही, तेव्हा तू गप्प रहावे हे चांगले नाहीतर जिवाला मुकशील.” संदेष्टा गप्प बसला पण नंतर म्हणाला, “देवाने तुझा नाश करायचे निश्चित केले आहे. कारण तू करु नये त्या गोष्टी केल्यास आणि माझे ऐकले नाहीस.”
And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that [the king] said unto him, Art thou made of the king’s counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.
17 १७ यहूदाचा राजा अमस्या याने यावर आपल्या सल्लागारांबरोबर विचार विनिमय केला. मग योवाशाला त्याने निरोप पाठवला की, “आपली एकदा प्रत्यक्ष युध्दात गाठ पडली पाहिजे.” योवाश हा यहोआहाजाला पुत्र आणि यहोआहाज येहूचा, येहू इस्राएलचा राजा होता.
Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us see one another in the face.
18 १८ इस्राएलचा राजा योवाश याने यहूदाचा राजा अमस्या याच्याकडे आपले उत्तर पाठवले. योवाशाने दृष्टांत दिला तो असा: “लबानोन मधल्या एका काटेरी झुडुपाने लबानोनाच्या एका गंधसरूला निरोप पाठवला की, ‘तुझ्या कन्येचे माझ्या पुत्रांशी लग्न व्हावे.’ पण तेवढ्यात ते झुडुप तिथून जाणाऱ्या एका वन्यपशूच्या पायाखाली तुडवले गेले.
And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that [was] in Lebanon sent to the cedar that [was] in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that [was] in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.
19 १९ मी अदोमचा पराभव केला. असे तू खुशाल म्हण. तू हे प्रौढीने म्हणतो आहेस खरे पण तू आपल्या घरी स्वस्थ बसावेस हे बरे. स्वत: ला उगीच अडचणीत पाडू नकोस! पण तू तसे केलेस तर तू स्वत: च्या आणि त्याबरोबर यहूदाच्या नाशाला कारणीभूत होशील.”
Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast smitten the Edomites; and thine heart lifteth thee up to boast: abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle to [thine] hurt, that thou shouldest fall, [even] thou, and Judah with thee?
20 २० पण अमस्याने या निरोपाला दाद दिली नाही. यहूदाच्या लोकांनी अदोमी लोकांच्या दैवताचे भजन पूजन सुरु केल्यामुळे इस्राएलकडून यहूदाचा पराभव करायचे परमेश्वराने योजले होते.
But Amaziah would not hear; for it [came] of God, that he might deliver them into the hand [of their enemies], because they sought after the gods of Edom.
21 २१ तेव्हा इस्राएलचा राजा योवाश आणि यहूदाचा राजा अमस्या यांची बेथ-शेमेश नगरात समोरासमोर गाठ पडली. बेथ-शेमेश यहूदातच आहे.
So Joash the king of Israel went up; and they saw one another in the face, [both] he and Amaziah king of Judah, at Beth-shemesh, which [belongeth] to Judah.
And Judah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent.
23 २३ इस्राएलाचा राजा योवाशाने बेथ-शेमेश येथे यहूदाचा राजा अमस्याला पकडले आणि यरूशलेमेला नेले. अमस्याच्या पित्याचे नाव योवाश. योवाशाचे पिता यहोआहाज. योवाशाने एफ्राइम वेशीपासून कोपऱ्याच्या वेशीपर्यंतची यरूशलेमेच्या तटबंदीची चारशे हात लांबीची भिंत पार मोडून तोडून टाकली.
And Joash the king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
24 २४ सर्व सोने व रुपे तसेच मंदिरातील उपकरणे, भांडी देखील त्याने हस्तगत केली. देवाच्या मंदिरातील वस्तूंची देखभाल करण्याची जबाबदारी ओबेद-अदोमची होती. राजमहालातील वस्तूही योवाशाने लुटल्या. काहीजणांना बंदिवान केले. या सगळ्यासह तो शोमरोनला परतला.
And [he took] all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obed-edom, and the treasures of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.
25 २५ यहोआहाजाचा पुत्र इस्राएलाचा राजा योवाश याच्या मृत्यूनंतर अमस्या पंधरा वर्षे जगला. अमस्याचे पिता म्हणजे यहूदाचा राजा योवाश.
And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.
26 २६ यहूदा आणि इस्राएलमधील राजांचा इतिहास या पुस्तकात, अमस्याने बाकी जे जे केले त्याची संपूर्ण हकिकत आली आहे.
Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, [are] they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?
27 २७ अमस्याने परमेश्वराचे आज्ञापालन करायचे थांबवल्यावर यरूशलेमेच्या लोकांनी त्याच्याविरुध्द कट केला. तेव्हा तो लाखीश येथे पळून गेला. पण लोकांनी त्याच्या मागावर माणसे पाठवून त्याचा तेथे वध केला.
Now after the time that Amaziah did turn away from following the LORD they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent to Lachish after him, and slew him there.
28 २८ अमस्याचा मृतदेह मग लोकांनी घोड्यावर लादला आणि यहूदाच्या नगरात आणून त्यास पूर्वंजाशेजारी पुरले.
And they brought him upon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.
