1 १ पुढे यहोशाफाट मरण पावला. त्यास त्याच्या पूर्वजांजवळ दावीद नगरात दफन केले. यहोशाफाटाच्या जागी त्याचा पुत्र यहोराम त्याच्याजागी राजा झाला.
And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.
2 २ अजऱ्या, यहीएल, जखऱ्या, अजऱ्या मीखाएल व शफट्या हे यहोरामाचे भाऊ, व यहोशाफाटाचे पुत्र. यहोशाफाट हा इस्राएलाचा राजा होता.
And he had brethren the sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah: all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.
3 ३ यहोशाफाटाने आपल्या पुत्रांना यहूदातील तटबंदीच्या नगरांखेरीज सोन्यारुप्याच्या आणि अन्य किंमती वस्तू भेटीदाखल दिल्या. यहोराम मात्र ज्येष्ठ पुत्र असल्यामुळे त्यास त्याने राज्य दिले.
And their father gave them great gifts, of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fenced cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram, because he was the firstborn.
4 ४ यहोराम आपल्या पित्याच्या जागी गादीवर आला आणि सत्ताधीश बनला. त्याने आपल्या सर्व भावांचा तसेच इस्राएलमधील काही वडिलधाऱ्यांचा तलवारीने वध केला.
Now when Jehoram was risen up over the kingdom of his father, and had strengthened himself, he slew all his brethren with the sword, and divers also of the princes of Israel.
Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
6 ६ अहाबाच्या घराण्याप्रमाणे, इस्राएलच्या राजांच्या वर्तनूकी प्रमाणेच याचे वागणे होते. कारण अहाबाच्या कन्येशी यहोरामाने लग्न केले होते. परमेश्वराच्या दृष्टीने वाईट अशा गोष्टी त्याने केल्या.
And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.
7 ७ पण परमेश्वराने दाविदाला वचन दिलेले असल्यामुळे परमेश्वर दाविदाच्या घराण्याचे उच्चाटन करु शकत नव्हता. दाविदाच्या वंशाचा दिवा सतत तेवत राहील असा परमेश्वराने दाविदाशी करार केला होता.
Howbeit the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a lamp to him and to his children alway.
8 ८ यहोरामाच्या कारकीर्दीत अदोमने यहूदाच्या सत्तेविरुध्द बंड पुकारले. अदोमच्या लोकांनी स्वत: आपला राजा निवडला.
In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.
9 ९ तेव्हा आपले सर्व सेनापती आणि रथ यांच्यासह यहोराम अदोमवर चाल करून गेला. अदोमी सैन्याने त्यांना वेढा घातला. पण यहोरामाने रात्रीची वेळ साधून त्यांच्यावर प्रतिहल्ला केला.
Then Jehoram passed over with his captains, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots.
10 १० तेव्हापासून आजतागायत अदोमची यहूदाशी बंडखोरी चालू आहे. लिब्ना नगरातील लोकांनीही यहोरामाची सत्ता झुगारली. यहोरामाने आपल्या पूर्वजांचा देव परमेश्वर याचा त्याग केल्यामुळे असे झाले.
So Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, unto this day: then did Libnah revolt at the same time from under his hand: because he had forsaken the LORD, the God of his fathers.
11 ११ यहोरामाने यहूदातील पहाडांवर प्रार्थनेसाठी उच्चस्थाने बांधली आणि यरूशलेमेतील लोकांना व्यभिचारी मतीने चालायला लावले. अशाप्रकारे यहोरामाने यहूदी लोकांस परमेश्वरापासून दूर नेले.
Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and made the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, and led Judah astray.
12 १२ एलीया या संदेष्ट्याकडून यहोरामाला असा संदेश आला: तुझे पूर्वज दावीद यांचा परमेश्वर म्हणतो, “यहोरामा, तुझे आचरण आपले पिता यहोशाफाट यांच्या सारखे नाही. यहूदाचा राजा आसा याच्यासारखे तुझे वर्तन नाही.
And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah;
13 १३ उलट तू इस्राएलच्या राजांचा कित्ता गिरवला आहेस. यहूदा आणि यरूशलेममधील लोकांस तू परमेश्वराच्या इच्छेविरुध्द वागायला लावले आहेस. अहाब आणि त्याचे घराणे यांनी हेच केले. ते परमेश्वराशी एकनिष्ठ राहिले नाहीत. तू स्वत: च्या भावांची हत्या केलीस. ते तुझ्यापेक्षा वर्तणुकीने चांगले होते.
but hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like as the house of Ahab did; and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father’s house, which were better than thyself:
14 १४ तेव्हा परमेश्वर आता तुझ्या लोकांस जबर शासन करणार आहे तुझी अपत्ये पत्नी, मालमत्ता यांना परमेश्वर शिक्षा करणार आहे.
behold, the LORD will smite with a great plague thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy substance:
and thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness, day by day.
And the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians which are beside the Ethiopians:
17 १७ या लोकांनी यहूदावर स्वारी केली आणि त्यांनी राजाच्या महालातली सगळी घनदौलत लुटून नेली. यहोरामाच्या पत्नी-अपत्यानाही त्यांनी पळवून नेले. फक्त यहोआहाज हा सगळ्यात धाकटा पुत्र तेवढा बचावला.
and they came up against Judah, and brake into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king’s house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was never a son left him, save Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.
And after all this the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.
19 १९ त्या आजारात दोन वर्षांनी त्यांची आतडी बाहेर आली. असह्य वेदना होऊन तो मरण पावला. लोकांनी त्याच्या वडलांच्या सन्मानार्थ जसा मोठा अग्नी पेटवला होता तसा यहोरामाच्या सन्मानार्थ पेटवला नाही.
And it came to pass, in process of time, at the end of two years, that his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness, and he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.
20 २० यहोराम सत्तेवर आला तेव्हा बत्तीस वर्षांचा होता. त्याने यरूशलेमामध्ये आठ वर्षे राज्य केले. त्याच्या मृत्यूचे कोणालाही दु: ख झाले नाही. लोकांनी दावीद नगरातच त्याचे दफन केले, पण राजासाठी असलेल्या कबरेत नव्हे.
Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years: and he departed without being desired; and they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.
