1 १ आसाच्या जागी आता यहोशाफाट यहूदाचा राजा झाला. यहोशाफाट हा आसाचा पुत्र इस्राएलाशी तोंड देता यावे म्हणून यहोशाफाटाने आपले बळ वाढवले.
And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, —and strengthened himself against Israel;
2 २ त्याने यहूदाच्या सर्व तटबंदीच्या नगरांमध्ये सैन्याच्या तुकड्या ठेवल्या आसाने काबीज केलेल्या एफ्राइमाच्या नगरांमध्ये तसेच यहूदामध्ये त्याने तटबंदी असलेली ठाणी वसवली.
and put forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, —and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had captured.
3 ३ यहोशाफाटाला परमेश्वराचा पाठिंबा होता कारण लहान वयातच त्याने आपले पूर्वज दावीद यांच्यासारखी सत्कृत्ये केली होती. तो बआल देवतेच्या भजनी लागला नाही.
And it came to pass, that, Yahweh, was with Jehoshaphat, —because he walked in the first ways of David his father, and sought not unto the Baalim;
4 ४ आपल्या पूर्वजांच्या देवालाच तो शरण गेला. परमेश्वराच्या आज्ञा त्याने पाळल्या इतर इस्राएल लोकांसारखा तो वागला नाही.
for, unto the God of his father, he sought, and, in his commandments, he walked, —and not according to the doing of Israel.
5 ५ परमेश्वराने यहोशाफाटाकरवी राज्य बळकट केले. यहूदाच्या लोकांनी यहोशाफाटासाठी नजराणे आणले त्यामुळे त्यास धन तसेच बहुमान मिळाला.
Therefore did Yahweh establish the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah gave a present unto Jehoshaphat, —and he came to have riches and honour, in abundance.
6 ६ परमेश्वराच्या मार्गाने वाटचाल करण्यात यहोशाफाटाचे मन रमले. यहूदा प्रांतातील उच्चस्थाने आणि अशेरा देवीच्या मूर्ती त्याने काढून टाकल्या.
And his heart was encouraged, in the ways of Yahweh, —and he, yet further, took away the high places and the Sacred Stems, out of Judah.
7 ७ आपल्या राज्याच्या तिसऱ्या वर्षात त्याने सरदारांना नगरांमधून यहूदी लोकांस शिकवण द्यायला पाठवले. बेन-हईल, ओबद्या, जखऱ्या, नथनेल आणि मीखाया हे ते सरदार होते.
And, in the third year of his reign, he sent to his rulers, even to Ben-hail and to Obadiah and to Zechariah, and to Nethanel, and to Micaiah, —that they were to teach throughout the cities of Judah;
8 ८ त्यांच्याबरोबर शमाया, नथन्या, जबद्या, असाएल, शामीरामोथ, यहोनाथान, अदोनीया, तोबीया आणि तोब अदोनीया या लेवीचीही त्याने रवानगी केली. अलीशामा व यहोराम हे याजकही त्याने पाठवले.
and, with them, Levites, Shemaiah and Nethaniah and Zebadiah and Asahel and Shemiramoth and Jehonathan, and Adonijah and Tobijah and Tob-adonijah, Levites, —and, with them, Elishama and Jehoram, priests;
9 ९ हे सरदार, लेवी आणि याजक सर्व लोकांस शिकवले. परमेश्वराच्या नियमशास्त्राचे पुस्तक त्यांनी बरोबर घेतले होते. यहूदातील गावोगावी जाऊन ते लोकांस शिकवत गेले.
and they taught throughout Judah, and, with them, was the book of the law of Yahweh, —so they went round throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.
10 १० यहूदाच्या आसपासच्या राजसत्तांनी परमेश्वराची धास्ती घेतली, त्यामुळे त्यांनी यहोशाफाटाबरोबर युध्द केले नाही.
And it came to pass, that, the dread of Yahweh, was upon all the kingdoms of the countries, that were round about Judah, —and they warred not against Jehoshaphat.
11 ११ कित्येक पलिष्टयांनी यहोशाफाटासाठी चांदीच्या भेटी आणल्या. काही अरबी शेळ्यामेंढ्या घेऊन येत. त्यांनी असे सात हजार सातशे मेंढेरे आणि सात हजार सातशे बोकड त्यास दिले.
And, from among the Philistines, were they bringing in unto Jehoshaphat a present, and silver as tribute, —even the Arabians, were bringing in unto him flocks, seven thousand seven hundred rams, and seven thousand seven hundred he-goats.
12 १२ यहोशाफाटाचे सामर्थ्य असे दिवसेंदिवस वाढत चालले. त्याने यहूदात किल्ले आणि कोठारांची नगरे बांधली.
And so it came to pass that, Jehoshaphat, went on waxing surpassingly great, —and he built, throughout Judah, fortresses and cities for store;
13 १३ यहूदाच्या नगरात त्याची भरपूर कामे चालत असत. यरूशलेमामध्ये यहोशाफाटाने चांगली बळकट, धीट लढाऊ माणसेही ठेवली.
and, much business, had he, throughout the cities of Judah, —but, the men of war, the heroes of valour, were in Jerusalem.
14 १४ आपापल्या घराण्यांप्रमाणे त्यांची गणती झालेली होती. ती पुढीलप्रमाणे यहूदातील सरदार असे अदना हा तीन लाख सैनिकांचा सेनापती होता.
And, these, are the numbers of them, by their ancestral house, —To Judah, pertained rulers of thousands, Adnah the chief, and, with him, mighty men of valour, three hundred thousand;
and, under his direction, was Jehohanan the chief, —and, with him, two hundred and eighty thousand;
16 १६ जिख्रीचा पुत्र अमस्या हा त्या खालोखाल दोन लाख योध्दाचा मुख्य होता. त्याने आपणहून परमेश्वराच्या सेवेला वाहून घेतले होते.
and, under his direction, Amasiah son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto Yahweh, —and, with him, two hundred thousand heroes of valour.
17 १७ बन्यामिनांच्या वंशातील सरदार असे: एल्यादाच्या अखत्यारीत दोन लाख सैनिक धनुष्यबाण आणि ढाल वापरण्यात तरबेज होते. एल्यादा हा एक अतिशय शूर योध्दा होता.
And, out of Benjamin, a hero of valour, Eliada, —and, with him, armed with bow and buckler, two hundred thousand;
and, under his direction, Jehozabad, —and, with him, a hundred and eighty thousand, equipped for war.
19 १९ ही सर्व फौज राजा यहोशाफाट याच्या सेवेत होती. याखेरीज यहूदाच्या सर्व नगरांमधील किल्ल्यांवर त्याने माणसे नेमली होती.
These, were they who were waiting upon the king, —besides those whom the king placed in the fortified cities, throughout all Judah.
