1 शमुवेल 24
1 १ असे झाले, शौल पलिष्ट्यांचा पाठलाग सोडून माघारी आल्यावर त्यास कोणी सांगितले की, दावीद एन-गेदीच्या रानात आहे.
When Saul returned from chasing the Philistines, it was reported to him, “David is in the Desert of En-gedi.”
2 २ तेव्हा शौल सर्व इस्राएलातून निवडलेल्या तीन हजार मनुष्यांस घेऊन रानबकऱ्याच्या खडकावर दावीदाचा व त्याच्या मनुष्यांचा शोध करायला गेला.
So Saul took three thousand specially-picked men from all Israel and went searching for David and his men in the area around Wild Goats' Rocks.
3 ३ आणि तो मेंढवाड्याजवळ रस्त्यावर आला तेथे एक गुहा होती तिच्यात शौल शौचास गेला आणि दावीद व त्याची माणसे त्या गुहेच्या अगदी आतल्या भागात बसली होती.
As Saul passed the sheep pens on the way, there was a cave, and he went in to relieve himself. David and his men were hiding deep inside the cave.
4 ४ तेव्हा दावीदाच्या मनुष्यांनी त्यास म्हटले, “परमेश्वराने तुला सांगितले की, पाहा मी तुझा शत्रू तुझ्या हाती देईन आणि तुला जसे बरे दिसेल तसे तू त्याचे करशील; तो हाच दिवस आहे पाहा.” मग दावीदाने उठून शौलाच्या वस्त्राचा काठ हळूच कापून घेतला.
David's men said to him, “Today's the day the Lord promised you when he told you, ‘Listen, I'm going to hand over your enemy to you, so you can do to him whatever you want.’” Then David crept up quietly and cut a piece from the edge of Saul's robe.
But afterwards David felt really bad because he'd cut off a piece of Saul's robe.
6 ६ आणि त्याने आपल्या मनुष्यांस म्हटले, “मी आपल्या धन्यावर परमेश्वराच्या अभिषिक्तावर आपला हात टाकावा अशी गोष्ट परमेश्वराने माझ्याकडून घडू देऊ नये, कारण तो देवाचा अभिषिक्त आहे.”
He told his men, “May the Lord prevent me from doing anything like this to my master, the Lord's anointed one. I will never attack him, for he is the Lord's anointed one.”
7 ७ असे बोलून दावीदाने आपल्या मनुष्यांना धमकावले आणि त्यांना शौलावर हल्ला करण्याची परवानगी दिली नाही. मग शौल उठून गुहेतून निघून वाटेने चालला.
He reprimanded his men and didn't allow them to attack Saul. Saul stood up and went on his way.
8 ८ नतर दावीदही उठून गुहेतून निघाला आणि शौलाच्या पाठीमागून हाक मारून बोलला, “हे माझ्या प्रभू, राजा.” तेव्हा शौलाने आपल्यामागे वळून पाहिले आणि दावीद आपले तोंड भूमीस लावून नमला
A little later David came out of the cave and shouted, “My master the king!” When Saul looked around, David bowed down with his face to the ground.
9 ९ मग दावीदाने शौलाला म्हटले, “पाहा दावीद तुझे वाईट करायला पाहतो असे लोकांचे बोलणे ते तुम्ही कशाला ऐकता?
“Why do you pay attention to people who say, ‘Watch out, David wants to harm you’?” David asked.
10 १० पाहा आज तुम्ही आपल्या डोळ्यांनी पाहिले की, परमेश्वराने गुहेत आज तुम्हास माझ्या हाती दिले होते. तुम्हास जिवे मारावे असे कोणी मला सांगितले. पण मी तुम्हास सोडून दिले; मी बोललो की, मी आपला हात माझ्या प्रभूवर टाकणार नाही कारण तो देवाचा अभिषिक्त आहे.
“Just look! You've seen with your own eyes today that the Lord handed you over to me in the cave. Some urged me to kill you, but I showed you compassion, and said, ‘I refuse to attack my master, for he is the Lord's anointed one.’
11 ११ आणखी माझ्या बापा, पाहा माझ्या हातात तुमच्या वस्त्राचा काठ आहे तो पाहा. कारण मी तुमच्या वस्त्राचा काठ कापला आणि तुम्हास जिवे मारले नाही. यावरुन माझ्या ठायी दुष्टाई किंवा फितूरी नाही आणि जरी तुम्ही माझा जीव घ्यायला पहाता, तरी मी तुमच्याविरुध्द पाप केले नाही, याची खात्री करून पाहा.
Take a look, my father! You see this piece of your robe I'm holding. Yes, I did I cut it off, but I didn't kill you. Now you can see for yourself and you can be sure that I have done nothing evil or rebellious. I have not sinned against you, but you are hunting me down, trying to kill me.
12 १२ माझ्यामध्ये व तुमच्यामध्ये परमेश्वर न्याय करो; माझा सूड परमेश्वर तुमच्यावर उगवो. परंतु माझा हात तुमच्यावर पडणार नाही.
May the Lord decide between you and me as to who of us is right, and may the Lord punish you, but I myself will never try to harm you.
As the old saying goes, ‘From the wicked comes wickedness,’ but I myself will never try to harm you.
14 १४ इस्राएलाचा राजा कोणाचा पाठलाग करण्यास निघाला आहे? कोणाच्या पाठीस आपण लागला आहात? एका मरण पावलेल्या कुत्र्याच्या! एका पिसवेच्या!
Who is the king of Israel coming after? Who are you chasing? A dead dog! Just a flea!
15 १५ यास्तव परमेश्वर न्यायाधीश होऊन माझ्यामध्ये व तुमच्यामध्ये न्याय करो. हे पाहून तो माझा वाद करो आणि तुमच्या हातून मला सोडवो.”
May the Lord decide and choose between you and me. May he pay attention to my case and support it; may he save me from you.”
16 १६ असे झाले की, दावीदाने शौलाशी हे शब्द बोलणे संपवल्यावर, शौल म्हणाला, “माझ्या मुला दावीदा ही तुझी वाणी आहे काय?” मग शौल गळा काढून रडला
After David finished saying this, Saul asked, “Is that you speaking, David my son?” and he wept out loud.
17 १७ आणि तो दावीदाला म्हणाला, “माझ्यापेक्षा तू अधिक न्यायी आहेस, कारण तू माझे बरे केले आहेस. परंतु मी तुझे वाईट केले आहे.
He told David, “You are a better person than I am, because you have repaid me with good, but I have repaid you with evil.
18 १८ तू माझ्याशी चांगले वर्तन करतोस हे तू आज उघड केले आहे. कारण परमेश्वराने मला तुझ्या हाती दिले होते तेव्हा तू मला जिवे मारले नाही.
Today you have demonstrated how well you have treated me—for when the Lord handed me over to you, you didn't kill me.
19 १९ कोणा मनुष्यास त्याचा वैरी सापडला तर तो त्यास चांगल्या रीतीने वाटेस लावील काय? तर तू आज जे माझे बरे केले त्याबद्दल परमेश्वर तुला उत्तम प्रतिफळ देवो.
For if a man caught hold of his enemy, would he let him escape unharmed? The Lord reward you well for how you've treated me today.
Listen, I know you definitely will be king, and your rule over the kingdom of Israel will be secure.
21 २१ म्हणून आता तू माझ्याशी परमेश्वराची शपथ वाहा की, तू माझ्या मागे माझे संतान नाहीसे करणार नाहीस आणि माझ्या वडिलाच्या कुळातून माझे नाव नष्ट करून टाकणार नाहीस.”
Now swear to me by the Lord that you will not destroy my descendants who follow me, and that you will not wipe out my name from my family line.”
So David promised this to Saul with an oath. Then Saul went back home, but David and his men returned to the stronghold.
