1 राजे 19
1 १ अहाब राजाने घडलेली सर्व हकिकत ईजबेलला सांगितली. सर्व संदेष्ट्यांना एलीयाने कसे तलवारीने कापून काढले तेही सांगितले.
And Ahab told Jezebel, all that Elijah had done, —and withal, how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
2 २ तेव्हा ईजबेलने एलीयाला दूताकरवी निरोप पाठवला. तो असा, “तू त्या संदेष्ट्यांना मारलेस तसे मी तुला उद्या या वेळेपर्यंत मारणार. यामध्ये मला यश आले नाहीतर देव माझे तसेच व त्याहूनही अधीक करो.”
Then sent Jezebel a messenger unto Elijah, saying, —So, let the gods do, and, so, let them add, if, by this time to-morrow, I make not thy life as the life of one of them.
3 ३ एलीया हे ऐकून घाबरला. आपला जीव वाचवायला त्याने पळ काढला. बरोबर त्याने आपल्या नोकराला घेतले होते. यहूदामधील बैर-शेबा येथे ते गेले. आपल्या नोकराला तिथेच सोडून
And, when he saw [that], he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongeth to Judah, —and left his servant there.
4 ४ तो पुढे दिवसभर वाळवंट तुडवत गेला. एका झाडाखाली तो बसला. आता मरण यावे असे त्यास वाटले. एलीया म्हणाला, “आता हे पुरे झाले, परमेश्वरा! मला आता मरु दे माझ्या पूर्वजांपेक्षा माझ्यात काय बरे आहे?”
But, he himself, went into the wilderness a day’s journey, and came and sat down under a certain shrub, —and asked for his life, that he might die, and said—Enough, now, O Yahweh! take away my life, for, no better, am, I, than, my fathers.
5 ५ एका झाडाखाली तो आडवा झाला आणि त्यास झोप लागली. तेव्हा एक देवदूत तिथे आला एलीयाला स्पर्श करून म्हणाला, “उठ हे खा.”
And, as he lay, and slept, under a certain shrub, lo! a messenger, touching him, who said to him—Rise, eat.
6 ६ एलीया उठून पाहतो तर निखाऱ्यावर भाजलेली एक भाकर आणि पाण्याचे मडके शेजारी ठेवलेले होते. एलीयाने ते खाल्ले, पाणी प्याला आणि तो पुन्हा झोपी गेला.
So he looked about, and lo! at his head, a cake baked on hot stones, and a cruse of water, —and he did eat and drink, and then went back and lay down.
7 ७ आणखी काही वेळाने तो परमेश्वराचे देवदूत दुसऱ्यांदा पुन्हा त्याच्याजवळ आला त्याने त्यास स्पर्श केला आणि त्यास म्हणाला, “ऊठ आणि थोडे खाऊन घे, नाहीतर पुढचा मोठा प्रवास करायला तुला शक्ती राहणार नाही.”
And the messenger of Yahweh came again a second time, and touched him, and said—Rise, eat, —because, too much for thee, is the journey.
8 ८ तेव्हा एलीया उठला त्याने खाल्ले आणि पाणी प्याला. त्या अन्नाच्या बळावर पुढे तो चाळीस दिवस आणि रात्री चालत राहिला. देवाचा डोंगर होरेब येथपर्यंत तो चालला.
So he arose, and did eat and drink, —and journeyed, in the strength of that eating, forty days and forty nights, as far as the mountain of God—Horeb.
9 ९ तिथे एका गुहेत शिरुन त्याने रात्र काढली. तेव्हा परमेश्वर एलीयाशी बोलला. तो म्हणाला, “एलीया, तू येथे का आला आहेस?”
And he entered, there, into a cave, and lodged there, —and lo! the word of Yahweh [came] unto him, and said to him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
10 १० एलीया म्हणाला, “सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर देवा, मी आतापर्यंत तुझीच सेवा करत आलेलो आहे. माझ्याकडून होईल तितके मी केले पण इस्राएलाच्या लोकांनी तुझ्याशी केलेल्या कराराचा भंग केलेला आहे. त्यांनी तुझ्या वेदीचा विध्वंस केला. तुझ्या संदेष्ट्यांना तलवारीने मारले. मीच एकटा काय तो अजून जिवंत आहे. पण आता ते माझ्याही जिवावर उठले आहेत.”
And he said—Very jealous, have I been, for Yahweh, God of hosts, because the sons of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thine altars, have they thrown down, thy prophets, also have they slain with the sword, —and, I alone, am left, and they have sought my life, to take it.
11 ११ यावर परमेश्वर एलीयाला म्हणाला, “जा, या डोंगरावर माझ्यासमोर उभा राहा. मी तुझ्या जवळून जातो” मग जोराचा वारा सुटला. त्या सोसाट्याच्या वाऱ्याने डोंगरालाही तडे जाऊन मोठेमोठे खडक परमेश्वरासमोर पडले. पण त्या वाऱ्यात परमेश्वर नव्हता. त्यानंतर धरणीकंप झाला, पण तेथेही परमेश्वर नव्हता.
And he said—Go forth to-morrow, and stand in the mountain, before Yahweh. And lo! Yahweh, passing by, and a great and strong wind—rending the mountains, and breaking in pieces the crags, before Yahweh, Not, in the wind, was, Yahweh, —And, after the wind, an, earthquake, Not, in the earthquake, was, Yahweh;
12 १२ धरणीकंपानंतर अग्नी प्रकटला. पण तेथेही परमेश्वर नव्हता. अग्नी शमल्यावर मात्र शांत, मंजुळ स्वर ऐकू आला.
And, after the earthquake, a, fire, Not, in the fire, was, Yahweh, —And, after the fire, the voice of a gentle whisper.
13 १३ एलीयाने हा ध्वनी ऐकला तेव्हा अंगरख्याने चेहरा झाकून घेऊन तो गुहेच्या दाराशी जाऊन उभा राहिला. “एलीया, तू इथे का आला आहेस?” अशी वाणी त्यास ऐकू आली.
And it came to pass, when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went forth, and stood at the entrance of the cave, —and lo! unto him, a voice; and it said—What doest thou here, Elijah?
14 १४ एलीया म्हणाला, “सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर देवा, आतापर्यंत मी तुझ्याच सेवेत आयुष्य घालवले आहे. पण इस्राएल लोकांनी आपला करार मोडला आहे. त्यांनी तुझ्या वेदींचा विध्वंस केला. तुझ्या संदेष्ट्यांना ठार केले. मीच काय तो अजून जिवंत आहे. आणि आता ते माझ्या जिवावर उठलेत.”
And he said—Very jealous, have I been, for Yahweh, God of hosts, because the sons of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thine altars, have they thrown down, thy prophets also, have they slain with the sword, —and, I alone, am left, and they rove sought my life, to take it.
15 १५ तेव्हा परमेश्वर त्यास म्हणाला, “आता मागे जा आणि वाळवंटातून जाणाऱ्या रस्त्याने दिमिष्काला पोहोंचेपर्यंत चालत जा. दिमिष्कामध्ये जा आणि अरामाचा राजा म्हणून हजाएलला अभिषेक कर.
And Yahweh said unto him, Go, return to thy way, towards the wilderness of Damascus, —and, when thou enterest, then shalt thou anoint Hazael to be king over Syria;
16 १६ निमशीचा पुत्र येहू याला इस्राएलचा राजा म्हणून अभिषेक कर. आणि आबेल-महोला इथला शाफाटाचा पुत्र अलीशा याला पुढे तुझी जागा घेणारा संदेष्टा म्हणून अभिषेक कर.
And, Jehu son of Minshi, shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel, —and, Elisha son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah, shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy stead:
17 १७ हजाएल अनेक पापी मनुष्यांना ठार करेल. त्याच्या तलवारीतून जे सुटतील त्यांना येहू मारील. आणि यातूनही कोणी निसटले तर त्यास अलीशा मारील.
Then shall it come to pass, that—him that escapeth the sword of Hazael, shall, Jehu, slay, —and, him that escapeth the sword of Jehu, shall, Elisha, slay;
18 १८ एलीया, इस्राएलमध्ये बआलापुढे कधी वाकले नाहीत असे सात हजार लोक अजूनही आहेत. यांना मी जगू देईल. त्यांनी आयुष्यात कधी बालमूर्तीचे चुंबन घेतलेले नाही.”
Yet will I leave remaining in Israel, seven thousand, —all knees which have not bowed to Baal, and all mouths which have not kissed to him.
19 १९ तेव्हा एलीया तिथून निघाला आणि शाफाटाचा मुलगा अलीशा याच्या शोधात निघाला. अलीशा तेव्हा आपली बैलाची बारा जोते चालवून शेतजमीन नांगरत होता. एलीया आला तेव्हा अलीशा स्वत: हा बाराव्या जोतावर होता. एलीया अलीशाजवळ आला. एलीयाने मग आपला संदेष्ट्याचा खास अंगरखा अलीशावर पांघरला.
So he departed from thence, and found Elisha son of Shaphat, as he was plowing, with twelve yoke of oxen before him, he being with the twelfth, —so Elijah crossed over unto him, and cast his mantle towards him;
20 २० अलीशाने लगेच बैल सोडून दिले आणि तो एलीयाच्या मागे धावत गेला. अलीशा त्यास म्हणाला, “मला माझ्या आईवडीलांचा निरोप घेऊ दे.” मग मी तुझ्याबरोबर येतो. एलीया म्हणाला, “ठीक आहे, जा पण मी तुला काय केले ते लक्षात ठेव.”
and he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said—Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, that I may follow thee. And he said unto him, —Go, turn back, for what have I done to thee?
21 २१ अलीशाने मग आपल्या आईवडीलांसमवेत सणासुदीसारखे जेवण घेतले. त्याने आपली बैलांची जोडी कापली. त्यांच्या मानेवरचे जू सरपण म्हणून वापरले त्यावर बैलांचे मांस शिजवले. सर्व लोकांस जेवायला बोलावले. मग अलीशा एलीयाच्या पाठोपाठ गेला. एलीयाचा तो मदतनीस झाला.
So he turned back from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, and sacrificed them, and, with the implements of the oxen, boiled their flesh, and gave unto the people, and they did eat, —then he arose, and followed Elijah, and ministered unto him.
