1 १ मग सर्व इस्राएल लोक हेब्रोन येथे दावीदाकडे आले व ते त्यास म्हणाले, “पहा, आम्ही तुझ्याच मांसाचे व हाडाचे आहोत.
Then did all Israel gather themselves together to David, unto Hebron, saying, —Lo! thy bone and thy flesh, are we.
2 २ मागील दिवसात, शौल जेव्हा आमच्यावर राजा होता, तेव्हा लढाईत तू इस्राएलाचे नेतृत्व केले आहेस. परमेश्वर तुझा देव तुला म्हणाला, ‘तू माझ्या इस्राएल लोकांचा मेंढपाळ होशील आणि माझ्या इस्राएल लोकांवर राज्य करशील.”
Moreover also, in time past even when Saul was king, thou, wast he that led out and brought in Israel, —and Yahweh thy God said unto thee, Thou, shalt shepherd my people Israel, Yea, thou, shalt be chief ruler, over my people Israel.
3 ३ असे इस्राएल लोकांचे सर्व वडील राजाकडे हेब्रोन येथे आले आणि दावीदाने परमेश्वरासमोर त्यांच्याशी हेब्रोनात करार केला. तेव्हा त्यांनी दावीदाला इस्राएलावर राजा होण्यास अभिषेक केला. याप्रकारे शमुवेलाने सांगितलेले परमेश्वराचे वचन खरे ठरले.
Thus came all the elders of Israel unto the king, to Hebron, and David solemnised to them a covenant in Hebron, before Yahweh, —and they anointed David to be king over Israel, according to the word of Yahweh, through Samuel.
4 ४ दावीद व सर्व इस्राएल लोक यरूशलेम म्हणजे यबूस याठिकाणी गेले. आता त्या देशाचे रहिवासी यबूसी लोक तेथे राहत होते.
Then went David and all Israel to Jerusalem, the same, was Jebus, —where were the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land.
5 ५ यबूसचा रहिवासी दावीदाला म्हणाला, “तू येथे येणार नाहीस.” पण तरीही दावीदाने सियोनचा किल्ला घेतला. हेच दावीदाचे नगर आहे.
And the inhabitants of Jebus said unto David, Thou shalt not come in hither, —But David captured the citadel of Zion, the same, is the city of David.
6 ६ दावीद म्हणाला, “जो कोणी यबूसी लोकांवर प्रथम हल्ला करील तोच माझा सेनापती होईल.” सरुवेचा पुत्र यवाब याने प्रथम हल्ला केला म्हणून त्यास सेनापती करण्यात आले.
And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites, first, shall become a chief, and a ruler, —So then Joab son of Zeruiah, went up first, and became a chief.
And David dwelt in the citadel, —for this cause, did they call it, The City of David.
8 ८ त्याने त्या नगराला चोहीकडून म्हणजे मिल्लोपासून ते सभोवार मजबूत कोट बांधला. नगराचा राहिलेला भाग यवाबाने मजबूत केला.
And he built the city round about, from Millo even as far as the circuit, —but, Joab, suffered the remainder of the city to live.
Thus did David wax greater and yet greater, —and, Yahweh of Hosts, was with him.
10 १० हे दावीदाजवळच्या पुढाऱ्यांतील होते, इस्राएलाविषयी परमेश्वराच्या वचनाप्रमाणे त्यास राजा करावे म्हणून समस्त इस्राएलाबरोबर त्याच्या राज्यात खंबीर राहिले.
Now, these, are the chiefs of the heroes, that pertained to David, who held strongly with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make him king, —according to the word of Yahweh, concerning Israel.
11 ११ दावीदाकडील उत्तम सैनिकांची यादी: याशबाम, हा हखमोनीचा पुत्र, तीस जणांचा सेनापती होता. त्याने एका प्रसंगी आपल्या भाल्याने तीनशे मनुष्यांना ठार मारले.
And, this, is the number of the heroes who pertained to David, —Jashobeam son of a Hachmonite, chief of the thirty, the same, brandished his spear over three hundred—slain at one time.
And, after him, was Eleazar son of Dodai, the Ahohite, —he, was among the three heroes;
13 १३ पसदम्मीम येथे हा दावीदाबरोबर होता. पलिष्टे तेथे एकत्र होऊन लढावयाला आले होते. तेथे शेतात जवाचे पीक होते आणि पलिष्ट्यांपुढून सैन्य पळून गेले होते.
he, was with David in Pas-dammim, where, the Philistines, were gathered together to battle, and there was a field-plot full of barley, —and, the people, fled, from before the Philistines;
14 १४ तेव्हा त्यांनी त्या शेतात उभे राहून त्या पलिष्ट्यांना कापून काढले आणि रक्षण केले. परमेश्वराने त्यांची सुटका करून त्यांना मोठा विजय मिळवून दिला.
so they took their stand in the midst of the plot and rescued it, and smote the Philistines, —and Yahweh wrought a great victory.
15 १५ एकदा, दावीद अदुल्लामच्या गुहेत होता. पलिष्ट्यांचे सैन्य तेथून खाली रेफाईमच्या खोऱ्यात होते. त्यावेळी तीस वीरांपैकी तिघेजण गुहेत असलेल्या दावीदाकडे खडक उतरून गेले.
And three of the thirty chiefs went down upon the rock, unto David, into the cave of Adullam, —a host of Philistines, being encamped in the vale of Rephaim.
Now, David, then was in the stronghold, —and, a garrison of Philistines, then was in Bethlehem.
17 १७ तेव्हा दावीदाला पाण्याची फार उत्कट इच्छा झाली. तो म्हणाला, “बेथलेहेमच्या वेशीजवळ विहीर आहे तिच्यातले पाणी जर मला कोणी आणून दिले तर किती बरे होईल!”
And David longed, and said—Who will give me to drink of the water, out of the well of Bethlehem, that is within the gate?
18 १८ यावर त्या तिघांनी पलिष्ट्यांच्या छावणीतून मोठ्या हिंमतीने वाट काढली, बेथलेहेमच्या वेशीजवळच्या विहिरीतील पाणी काढले आणि ते त्यांनी दावीदाला आणून दिले. परंतु त्याने ते पाणी पिण्यास नकार दिला. त्याने ते जमिनीवर ओतून परमेश्वरास अर्पण केले.
And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was within the gate, and bare it, and brought it in unto David, —yet would not David drink it, but poured it out unto Yahweh;
19 १९ तो म्हणाला “हे देवा, असले काम माझ्याकडून न होवो या ज्या मनुष्यांनी आपले जीव धोक्यात घातले त्यांचे हे रक्त मी प्यावे काय? त्यांनी आपला जीव धोक्यात घालून ते आणले आहे.” त्याने ते पिण्यास नकार दिला. त्या तीन शूरांनी हे कृत्ये केले.
and said—Far be it from me, of my God, that I should do this! The blood of these men, shall I drink, with their lives? For, with their lives, have they brought it! So he would not drink it. These things, did the three heroes.
20 २० यवाबाचा भाऊ अबीशय हा या तिघांचा प्रमुख होता. त्याने आपल्या भाल्याने तीनशे जणांचा प्रतिकार केला आणि त्यांना ठार केले. या तिघा सैनिकांबरोबर त्याचा उल्लेख नेहमीच केला जातो.
And, Abishai brother of Joab—he, was the chief of three, he, having brandished his spear against three hundred—who were slain, —and so, he, had a name among three.
21 २१ या तिघांपेक्षा त्याचा मान जास्त झाला आणि त्यास त्यांचा नायक करण्यात आले, तरीपण, त्याची किर्ती त्या तीन सुप्रसिध्द सैनिकासारखी झाली नाही.
Of the three in the second rank, was he honourable, therefore became he their captain, —though, unto the [first] three, did he not attain.
22 २२ कबसेल येथला एक बलवान मनुष्य होता, त्याचा पुत्र यहोयादा बनाया याने पुष्कळ पराक्रम केले. त्याने मवाबातील अरीएलाच्या दोन पुत्रांना ठार केले. बर्फ पडत असताना गुहेत शिरुन त्याने सिंहाचा वध केला.
Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, son of a man of valour, hero of many a deed, from Kabziel—he, smote the two [sons] of Ariel of Moab, he, also went down and smote a lion in the midst of a pit, in time of snow;
23 २३ मिसरच्या एका मजबूत सैनिकालाही त्याने ठार मारले. हा सैनिक साडेसात फूट उंचीचा होता. त्याच्याजवळ चांगला लांब आणि भक्कम भाला होता. विणकराच्या मागावरील तुळईएवढा हा भाला होता. बनायाजवळ फक्त गदा होती. बनायाने त्या सैनिकाच्या हातून भाला हिसकावून घेतला आणि त्यानेच त्या मिसरी सैनिकाला ठार केले.
he, also smote an Egyptian, a man of [great] stature, five cubits, and, in the hand of the Egyptian, was a spear like a weaver’s beam, so he went down unto him with a staff, —and wrested the spear out of the hand of the Egyptian, and slew him with his spear.
24 २४ यहोयादाचा पुत्र बनाया याने असे बरेच पराक्रम केले. त्याने अगदी तीन शूरवीरासारखे नाव मिळवले होते.
These things, did Benaiah son of Jehoiada, so, he, had a name among three heroes.
25 २५ तीस शूरांपेक्षा बनाया अधिक सन्माननीय होता. पण तो त्या तिघांच्या पदास पोहचला नाही. दावीदाने बनायाला आपल्या अंगरक्षकांचा प्रमुख म्हणून नेमले.
Among the thirty, lo! honourable, was he, but, unto the [first] three, did he not attain, —howbeit David set him over his council.
Now, the heroes of the forces, were, —Asahel, brother of Joab, Elhanan, son of Dodo, of Bethlehem;
Shammoth, the Harorite, Helez the Paltite;
Ira, son of Ikkesh, the Tekoite, Abiezer, the Anathothite;
Sibbecai, the Hushathite, Ilai, the Ahohite;
Maharai, the Netophathite, Heled, son of Baanah, the Netophathite;
Ithai, son of Ribai, of Gibeah, of the sons of Benjamin, —Benaiah, the Pirathonite;
Hurai, of the torrents of Gaash, Abiel the Arbathite;
Azmaveth, the Baharumite, Eliahba, the Shaalbonite;
the sons of Hashem, the Gizonite, Jonathan, son of Shageh, the Hararite;
Ahiam, son of Sacar, the Hararite, Eliphal, son of Ur;
Hepher, the Mecherathite, Ahijah the Pelonite;
Hezro, the Carmelite, Naarai, son of Ezbai;
Joel, brother of Nathan, Mibhar son of Hagri;
Zelek, the Ammonite, —Naharai, the Berothite, the armour-bearer of Joab son of Zeruiah;
Ira, the Ithrite, Gareb, the Ithrite;
Uriah, the Hittite, Zabad son of Ahlai;
Adina, son of Shiza, the Reubenite, a chief of the Reubenites and over the thirty;
Hanan, son of Maacah, and Joshaphat, the Mithnite;
Uzzia, the Ashterathite, —Shama, and Jeiel, sons of Hotham, the Aroerite;
Jediael, son of Shimri, and Joha, his brother, the Tizite;
Eliel, the Mahavite, and Jeribai and Joshaviah, sons of Elnaam, —and Ithmah the Moabite;
Eliel, and Obed, and Jaasiel, of Zobah.
