< Waiata 71 >

1 Ko koe taku e whakawhirinaki ai, e Ihowa: kei whakama ahau ake ake.
A Psalm of David. Of the sons of Jonadab and the former captives. In you, O Lord, I have hoped; do not let me be brought to ruin forever.
2 Whakaorangia ahau, i runga i tou tika, kia mawhiti ano ahau: tahuri mai tou taringa ki ahau, whakaorangia hoki ahau.
Free me by your justice, and rescue me. Incline your ear to me, and save me.
Be a God of protection and a place of strength for me, so that you may accomplish my salvation. For you are my firmament and my refuge.
4 Whakaorangia ahau, e toku Atua, i te ringa o te tangata kino, i te ringa o te whanoke, o te nanakia.
Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the sinner, and from the hand of the unjust and those who act against the law.
5 Ko koe nei hoki, e te Ariki, e Ihowa, taku e tumanako atu nei, taku e whakawhirinaki nei no toku tamarikitanga ake ano.
For you, O Lord, are my patience: my hope from my youth, O Lord.
6 Nau ahau i tautoko ake no te kopu mai ano; nau ahau i tango mai i roto i nga whekau o toku whaea; ko koe taku e whakamoemiti tonu ai.
In you, I have been confirmed from conception. From my mother’s womb, you are my protector. In you, I will sing forever.
7 He miharotanga ahau na te tini; ko koe ia toku piringa kaha.
I have become to many as if I were a portent, but you are a strong helper.
Let my mouth be filled with praise, so that I may sing your glory, your greatness all day long.
9 Kaua ahau e panga a te wa o te koroheketanga, kaua ahau e whakarerea ina hemo toku kaha.
Do not cast me off in the time of old age. Do not abandon me when my strength will fail.
10 E korerotia ana hoki ahau e oku hoariri, a e runanga tahi ana te hunga e whanga ana ki toku wairua.
For my enemies have spoken against me. And those who watched for my soul have taken counsel as one,
11 E mea ana, Kua whakarerea ia e te Atua: whaia, hopukia; kahore hoki tetahi hei whakaora.
saying: “God has abandoned him. Pursue and overtake him. For there is no one to rescue him.”
O God, do not be far from me. O my God, provide for my assistance.
May they be confounded, and may they fail, who drag down my soul. Let them be covered with confusion and shame, who seek evils for me.
But I will always have hope. And I will add more to all your praise.
15 Ma toku mangai e whakakite tou tika, tau whakaoranga i te roa o te ra; kahore hoki ahau e mohio e hia ranei.
My mouth will announce your justice, your salvation all day long. For I have not known letters.
16 Ka haere ahau i runga i te kaha o te Ariki, o Ihowa, ka whakahuatia e ahau tou tika, tou anake.
I will enter into the powers of the Lord. I will be mindful of your justice alone, O Lord.
17 E te Atua, he mea whakaako ahau nau, no toku tamarikitanga ake; a he whakapuaki taku i au mahi whakamiharo a mohoa noa nei.
You have taught me from my youth, O God. And so I will declare your wonders continuously,
18 Na kaua ahau e whakarerea, e te Atua, a koroheke noa, hina noa ahau, kia whakakitea ra ano e ahau tou kaha ki tenei whakatupuranga, tou nui ki nga tangata katoa e puta mai a mua.
even in old age and with grey hairs. Do not abandon me, O God, while I announce your arm to every future generation: your power
19 Kei runga rawa ano tou tika, e te Atua, he nui nei hoki au mahi: e te Atua, ko wai te rite ki a koe?
and your justice, O God, even to the highest great things that you have done. O God, who is like you?
20 He nui, he kino nga pouritanga ngakau i whakakitea mai e koe ki a matou; tera ano koe ka whakahauora i a matou, ka whakahoki ake ano i a matou i nga wahi hohonu o te whenua.
How great is the tribulation that you have revealed to me: very great and evil. And so, turning back, you have brought me to life, and you have led me back again from the abyss of the earth.
21 Whakaraneatia e koe toku nui, a tahuri mai ano ka whakamarie i ahau.
You have multiplied your magnificence. And so, turning back to me, you have consoled me.
Therefore, I will confess your truth to you, with the instruments of the Psalter. O God, I will sing psalms to you with stringed instruments, O Holy One of Israel.
23 Ka tino hari oku ngutu ua himene ahau ki a koe: me toku wairua ano i hokona nei e koe.
My lips will exult, when I sing to you, and also my soul, which you have redeemed.
24 Ka korerotia hoki e toku arero tou tika i te roa o te ra: kua whakama nei hoki, kua numinumi kau te hunga i rapu i te he moku.
And even my tongue will meditate on your justice all day long, when those who seek evils for me have been confounded and set in awe.
