< Waiata 59 >

1 Ki te tino kaiwhakatangi. Aratakiti. He Mikitama na Rawiri, i a Haora i tono tangata hei tiaki mo te whare, hei whakamate mona. Whakaorangia ahau, e toku Atua, i oku hoariri: whakateiteitia ake ahau i te hunga e whakatika ana ki ahau.
To the Chief Musician. "Do not Destroy." A precious Psalm of David. When Saul sent, and they watched the house, to kill him. Rescue me from my foes, O my God, From them who lift themselves up against me, wilt thou set me on high:
2 Whakaorangia ahau i nga kaimahi i te kino: kia ora ahau i te hunga toto.
Rescue me, from the workers of iniquity, And, from the men of bloodshed, save me.
For lo! they have lain in wait for my life, Mighty ones stir up strife against me, Without transgression of mine, and without sin of mine, O Yahweh;
4 Hore oku kino, oma ana ratou, kei te takatu: e ara hei awhina moku, titiro mai hoki.
For no iniquity, do they run that they may take their stand, Rouse thyself to meet me, and see.
5 Ae ra, maranga, e Ihowa, e te Atua o nga mano, e te Atua o Iharaira, tirohia iho nga tauiwi katoa: kaua e tohungia tetahi o te hunga kino, e poka ke nei. (Hera)
Thou, therefore, O Yahweh, God of hosts, God of Israel, Awake, to visit all the nations, Do not show favour to any iniquitous traitors. (Selah)
They return at evening, They grow like a dog, And go round the city.
Lo! they belch forth with their mouth, Swords, are in their lips, For [say they], Who doth hear?
8 Ko tau ia, e Ihowa, he kata ki a ratou: hei tawainga mau nga tauiwi katoa.
Thou, therefore, O Yahweh, wilt laugh at them, Thou wilt mock at all nations.
O my Strength, unto thee, will I make melody, For, God, is my high tower.
10 Kei mua i ahau toku Atua aroha: ma te Atua ahau ka kite i taku i hiahia ai ki oku hoariri.
My God of lovingkindness, will come to meet me, God, will let me look on mine adversaries.
11 Kaua ratou e whakamatea, kei wareware toku iwi: kia whakamararatia ratou e tou kaha; whakataka iho ratou, e te Ariki, e to matou whakangungu rakau.
Do not slay them, lest my people forget, Cause them to wander by thy strength, and prostrate them, [Thou] our shield, O Lord!
12 Mo te hara o to ratou mangai, mo nga kupu a o ratou ngutu, hopukia ratou i runga i to ratou whakakake, mo ta ratou korero, he kanga, he teka.
The sin of their mouth, The word of their lips, Let them then be captured in their pride, Both for the oath and for the deception they record.
(Hera)
Bring to a full end in wrath, Bring to a full end, that they be no more, —That men may know that, God, is ruling in Jacob, Unto the ends of the earth. (Selah)
Let them return, then, at evening, Let them growl like a dog, And go round the city.
They, may prowl about for food, —And, if they are not satisfied, then let them whine!
16 Ko ahau ia, ka waiatatia e ahau tou kaha; ae, i te ata ka hamamatia e ahau tau mahi toku: ko koe hoki toku pa, toku piringa i te ra o toku pouri.
But, I, will sing thy power, And will shout aloud, in the morning, thy lovingkindness, —For thou has become a refuge for me, And a place to flee to in the day of my distress.
O my Strength, unto thee, will I make melody, For, God, is my high tower, my God of lovingkindness.
