< Waiata 27 >
1 Na Rawiri. Ko Ihowa toku marama, toku whakaoranga; kia wehi ahau i a wai? Ko Ihowa te kaha o toku ora; ko wai e mataku ai ahau?
David’s. Yahweh, is my light and my salvation, Of whom shall I be afraid? Yahweh, is the refuge of my life, Of whom shall I be in dread?
2 I te whakatatanga mai o te hunga kino, o oku hoariri, o oku hoa whainga, ki te kai i oku kikokiko, tutuki ana ratou, hinga ana.
When there drew near against me evil-doers to devour my flesh, mine adversaries, and mine enemies—mine!—they, stumbled and fell!
3 Ahakoa whakapae noa te ope i ahau e kore toku ngakau e wehi: ahakoa ara noa te pakanga ki ahau, ka au tonu ia ahau.
Though there pitch against me—a camp, my heart shall not fear, —Though there come up against me—a battle, still, am I confident.
4 Kotahi taku mea i inoi ai i a Ihowa, ko taku tena e rapu ai: kia noho i te whare o Ihowa i nga ra katoa e ora ai ahau, kia kite ai i te ataahua o Ihowa, kia ui ai i roto i tona temepara.
One thing, have I asked of Yahweh, That, will I seek to secure, —That I may dwell in the house of Yahweh, all the days of my life, To view the delightfulness of Yahweh, And to contemplate in his temple.
5 Ka huna hoki ahau e ia ki tona teneti i te ra o te he, ka huna ki te wahi ngaro i tona tapenakara, ka hapainga ahau ki runga ki te kohatu.
For he will hide me in his pavilion, in the day of calamity, —He will conceal me, in the secrecy of his tent, Within a rock, will he set me on high.
6 Na, aianei ka teitei toku mahunga ki runga ake i oku hoariri, e karapoti nei i ahau; a ka patua e ahau i roto i tona tapenakara he whakahere hari; ka waiata ahau, ae ka himene ki a Ihowa.
Now, therefore, shall my head be raised high above my foes round about me, and I will sacrifice in his tent the sacrifices of triumphant joy, I will sing and touch the strings, to Yahweh.
7 Whakarongo mai ki toku reo, e Ihowa, ua karanga ahau, tohungia ahau, whakahokia mai hoki he kupu ki ahau.
Hear, O Yahweh, With my voice, do I cry, Oh then show me favour and answer me.
8 I a koe i mea, Rapua e koutou toku mata; ka mea toku ngakau ki a koe, ka rapu ahau i tou mata, e Ihowa.
To thee, said my heart—[When thou saidst] Seek ye my face—Thy face, O Yahweh, will I seek!
9 Kaua tou mata e huna ki ahau, kaua tau pononga e peia atu ua riri koe: ko koe toku kaiawhina, kei mahue ahau i a koe, kei whakarerea e koe e te Atua o toku whakaoranga.
Do not hide thy face from me, Do not repulse, in thine anger, thine own servant, —My help, thou hast been, Do not send me away nor forsake me, O my saving God!
10 Ki te whakarerea ahau e toku papa, e toku whaea, ko Ihowa hei tukunga atu moku.
When, my own father and mother, had forsaken me, Then, Yahweh, took me up!
11 E Ihowa, whakaakona ahau ki tau ara; arahina ahau i te ara tika, he hoariri hoki oku.
Point out to me, O Yahweh, thy way, —And guide me in a level path, because of mine adversaries.
12 Kaua ahau e tukua ki te hiahia o oku hoariri; kua whakatika mai hoki ki ahau he kaiwhakapae teka, me te hunga manawa nanakia.
Do not give me up unto the desire of mine adversaries, for there have risen up against me witnesses that are false, and he that fanneth up violence.
13 Kua ngohe ahau, me i kaua ahau i whakapono, tera ahau e kite i te pai o te Atua i te whenua o te ora.
I believe that I shall see—The goodness of Yahweh in the land of the living,
14 Taria a Ihowa: kia maia, a kia kaha tou ngakau; ina, taria a Ihowa.
Wait thou for Yahweh, —Be strong, and let thy heart be bold, Wait, then, for Yahweh!
