< Waiata 16 >

1 He Mikitama na Rawiri. Tiakina ahau, e te Atua: e whakawhirinaki nei hoki ahau ki a koe.
A michtam of David. Keep me, O God, for in you I take refuge.
2 Kua mea ahau ki a Ihowa, Ko koe toku Ariki, kahore oku pai i tua atu i a koe.
I said to the Lord, “You are my Lord, my happiness rests in you alone.
3 Ko te hunga tapu i runga i te whenua, te hunga pai rawa, kua ahau katoa toku ahuareka ki a ratou.
Those who are holy in the land, they, they alone, are the noble ones; all my delight is in them.”
4 Ka whakanuia nga mamae o te hunga e whakawhiti ana i a Ihowa mo tetahi atua ke: e kore e ringihia e ahau a ratou ringihanga toto, e kore ano o ratou ingoa e whakahuatia e oku ngutu.
Those who choose other gods find endless sorrow. In their offerings of blood I will have no part nor take their name on my lips.
5 Ko Ihowa te wahi i wehea mai moku, taku kapu hoki: ko koe te kaiwhakapumau i te wahanga maku.
The Lord is my share and my portion, my fate is in your strong hands.
6 Kua takoto oku aho ki nga wahi ahuareka, ina, he wahi pai toku.
The boundary lines of my life mark out delightful country, my heritage pleases me well.
7 Ka whakapaingia e ahau a Ihowa, i whakamahara nei i ahau: ka whakaako ano hoki oku whatumanawa i ahau i te po.
I praise the Lord for his counsel, which so stirs my heart in the night.
8 Kua waiho tonu e ahau a Ihowa ki toku aroaro: kei toku ringa matau nei ia, e kore ahau e whakakorikoria.
I keep the Lord always in mind: with him at my hand, I can never be moved.
9 Koia i koa ai toku ngakau, i whakamanamana ai toku kororia, i takoto tumanako ai ano oku kikokiko.
So my heart is glad, there is joy inside me; and in safety of body I live.
10 No te mea e kore e waiho e koe toku wairua i te reinga, e kore e tukua tau Mea Tapu kia kite i te pirau. (Sheol h7585)
For you will not give me up to Sheol nor let any who love you see the pit. (Sheol h7585)
11 Ka whakakitea mai e koe ki ahau te huarahi o te ora; kei tou aroaro te hari nui, kei tou matau nga ahuareka e kore e mutu.
You will show me the path that leads to life, to that fulness of joy which is in your presence, and the pleasures dispensed by your hand evermore.
