< Waiata 148 >

1 Whakamoemititia a Ihowa. Whakamoemititia a Ihowa i runga i nga rangi: whakamoemititia ia i nga wahi tiketike.
Praise Yahweh! Praise him, from up in heaven; praise him from way up in the sky!
2 Whakamoemititia ia, e ana anahera katoa: whakamoemititia ia, e ana mano whaioio.
All you angels who belong to him, praise him! All you who are in the armies of heaven, praise him!
3 Whakamoemititia ia, e te ra, e te marama: whakamoemititia ia, e nga whetu whakamarama katoa.
Sun and moon, [you also] praise him! You shining stars, you praise him!
4 Whakamoemititia ia, e nga rangi o nga rangi, e nga wai hoki o runga atu i nga rangi.
You highest heavens, praise him! And you waters that are high above the sky, praise him!
5 Kia whakamoemititia e ratou te ingoa o Ihowa: nana hoki i whakahau, a kua hanga ratou.
I want [all of] these to praise Yahweh [MTY] because by commanding [them to exist], he created them.
6 Nana hoki aua mea i whakapumau ake ake: i whakatakotoria e ia he tikanga e kore e taka.
He determined the places where they should be [in the sky], and he commanded that they should be there forever. They cannot disobey that command!
7 Whakamoemititia a Ihowa, i runga i te whenua, e nga tarakona, e nga rire katoa;
And everything on the earth, praise Yahweh! You [huge] sea monsters and [everything else that is] deep [in the ocean],
8 E te kapura, e te whatu; e te hukarere, e te kohu; e te tupuhi, e mahi nei i tana kupu;
and fire and hail, and snow and frost, and strong winds that obey what he commands, [I tell] all of you to praise Yahweh!
9 E nga maunga, e nga puke katoa; e nga rakau hua, e nga hita katoa;
Hills and mountains, fruit trees and cedar [trees],
10 E nga kirehe, e nga kararehe katoa; e nga mea ngokingoki, e nga manu whai pakau:
all the wild animals and all [you] cattle, and the (reptiles/creatures that scurry across the ground), and [all] the birds, [I tell all of them to praise Yahweh]!
11 E nga kingi o te whenua, e nga iwi katoa; e nga rangatira, e nga kaiwhakawa katoa o te whenua:
You kings on this earth and all the people [that you rule], you princes and all [other] rulers,
12 E nga taitama, e nga taitamahine; e nga koroheke ratou ko nga tamariki:
you young men and young women, you old people and children, [everyone, praise Yahweh!]
13 Kia whakamoemititia e ratou te ingoa o Ihowa: nona anake hoki te ingoa e nui ana; kei runga ake i te whenua, i te rangi, tona kororia.
I want them [all] to praise Yahweh [MTY] because he is greater than anyone else. His glory is greater than [anything on] the earth or [in] heaven.
14 Ko ia hoki te kaiwhakaara o te haona o tana iwi; e whakamoemititia ana e ana tangata tapu katoa; e nga tama a Iharaira, e te iwi e tata ana ki a ia. Whakamoemititia a Ihowa.
He caused us, his people, to be strong in order that we, his people, we Israeli people (who are very precious to him/whom he loves very much), would praise him. So praise Yahweh!
