< Waiata 143 >

1 He himene na Rawiri. E Ihowa, whakarongo ki taku inoi, kia titaha mai tou taringa ki aku inoi: whakahokia mai he kupu ki ahau i runga i tou pono, i runga i tou tika.
A Melody of David. O Yahweh, hear my prayer, Give ear to my supplications, In thy faithfulness, answer me, in thy righteousness.
2 A kaua e anga e whakawa ki tau pononga: ki tau titiro hoki kahore tetahi mea ora e tika.
Do not then enter into judgment with thy servant, for no one living, can appear just before thee.
3 Kua tukinotia hoki toku wairua e te hoariri; patua iho e ia toku ora ki raro ki te whenua: meinga ana ahau e ia kia noho i nga wahi pouri, kia rite ki nga tupapaku onamata.
For an enemy hath pursued my soul, hath crushed, to the earth, my life, hath made me dwell in dark places, like the ancient dead.
4 Na reira i ngaro ai toku wairua i roto i ahau: moti rawa toku ngakau i roto i ahau.
Therefore hath my spirit, fainted concerning myself, Within me, hath, my heart, been confounded.
5 E mahara ana ahau ki nga ra onamata; e whakaaro ana ki au mahi katoa: e whakaaroaro ana ahau ki nga meatanga a ou ringa.
I have remembered the days of aforetime, I have talked with myself of every deed of thine, Of the work of thy hands, I would speak:
6 Totoro tonu atu oku ringa ki a koe: e hiainu ana toku wairua ki a koe, ano he whenua mauiui. (Hera)
I have spread out my hands unto thee, My soul, is as a thirsty land, for thee. (Selah)
7 Hohoro te whakahoki kupu mai ki ahau, e Ihowa; ka hemo toku wairua: kei huna tou mata ki ahau; kei rite ahau ki te hunga e heke ana ki te poka.
Speedily answer me, O Yahweh, My spirit faileth, —Do not hide thy face from me, or I shall be made like unto them who go down into the pit.
8 Meinga kia rongo ahau ki tou aroha i te ata; e whakawhirinaki ana hoki ahau ki a koe: meinga kia matau ahau ki te ara e haere ai ahau; kua ara nei hoki toku wairua ki a koe.
Let me hear, in the morning, thy lovingkindness, for, in thee, have, I trusted, —Let me know the way in which I should walk, for, unto thee, have I uplifted my soul.
9 Whakaorangia ahau, e Ihowa, i oku hoariri: ka kuhu nei ahau ki roto ki a koe.
Rescue me from my foes, O Yahweh, Unto thee, have I come seeking refuge.
10 Whakaakona ahau ki te mea i tau e pai ai; ko koe hoki toku Atua: he pai tou wairua; arahina ahau ki te whenua o te tika.
Teach me to do thy good pleasure, for, thou, art my God, —Thy spirit, is good, thou wilt set me down to rest in a level land.
11 Whakahauorangia ahau, e Ihowa, he whakaaro ki tou ingoa; whakaarohia tou tika, ka whakaputa ake i toku wairua i roto i te pouri.
For the sake of thy Name, O Yahweh, wilt thou give unto me life, In thy righteousness, wilt thou bring forth, out of distress, my soul;
12 Aroha mai hoki, a huna oku hoariri: whakangaromia katoatia ano nga kaitukino o toku wairua: he pononga hoki ahau nau.
And, in thy lovingkindness, wilt thou exterminate my foes, —and destroy all the adversaries of my soul, because, I, am thy servant.
