< Waiata 141 >

1 He himene na Rawiri. E Ihowa, kua tangi nei ahau ki a koe; hohoro mai ki ahau: whakarongo ki toku reo ua karanga ahau ki a koe.
“A psalm of David.” O Lord, I call thee, hasten unto me: give ear unto my voice, when I call unto thee.
2 Kia whakatikaia taku inoi ki tou aroaro, hei whakakakara; te toronga atu hoki o oku ringa ano ko te whakahere o te ahiahi.
May my prayer be valued as incense before thee, the lifting up of my hands, as the evening offering.
3 Homai he kaitiaki mo toku mangai, e Ihowa: tiakina te kuwaha o oku ngutu.
Set, O Lord, a watch unto my mouth: keep a guard at the door of my lips.
4 Kaua e whakaangahia toku ngakau ki te mea kino, ki te mahi i nga mahi hianga i roto i nga kaimahi i te kino: kaua ano ahau e kai i a ratou mea papai.
Permit not my heart to incline after any evil thing, to practise deeds in wickedness with men that are doers of wrong: and let me not eat of their dainties.
5 Ma te tangata tika ahau e patu: he mahi aroha tena; mana ahau e riri; he hinu tena ki runga ki te upoko; kaua ia e paopaongia e toku upoko: ahakoa hoki i roto i to ratou kino ka inoi tonu ahau.
If the righteous strike me, it is a kindness; and if he reprove me, it is [as] oil poured on the head, my head shall not refuse it; for yet my prayer also [is offered] in their sufferings.
6 E turakina ana o ratou kaiwhakawa ki te taha o te kohatu; a ka rongo ratou i aku kupu; he reka hoki.
Are their judges fallen down through means of a rock: then will they listen to my words; for they are pleasant.
7 Pera i tetahi e haehae ana, e wawahi ana i te whenua, e titaritaria ana o matou wheua ki te waha o te reinga. (Sheol h7585)
As when one cutteth in and splitteth open the earth: so are our bones scattered for the mouth of the grave. (Sheol h7585)
8 Otiia e tau ana oku kanohi, e Ihowa, e te Ariki, ki a koe: ko koe toku whakawhirinakitanga; kaua toku wairua e waiho pani.
For unto thee, O Eternal Lord, are my eyes directed; in thee do I trust: pour not out my life.
9 Tiakina ahau kei mau i nga mahanga i whakatakotoria e ratou moku, i nga rore hoki a nga kaimahi i te kino.
Guard me from the power of the snare which they have laid for me, and the traps of the wrong-doers.
10 Kia taka te hunga kino ki roto ki a ratou kupenga ano: ko ahau ia kia mawhiti.
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, altogether—while I pass safely by.
