< Waiata 116 >

1 E aroha ana ahau ki a Ihowa: mona i whakarongo ki toku reo, ki aku inoi.
I have given my love to the Lord, because he has given ear to the voice of my cry and my prayer.
2 I tahuri mai tona taringa ki ahau: mo reira ka karanga ahau ki a ia i ahau e ora ana.
He has let my request come before him, and I will make my prayer to him all my days.
3 I karapotia ahau e nga whakawiringa a te mate: mau pu ahau i nga mamae o te reinga, i kite ahau i te pawera, i te pouri. (Sheol h7585)
The nets of death were round me, and the pains of the underworld had me in their grip; I was full of trouble and sorrow. (Sheol h7585)
Then I made my prayer to the Lord, saying, O Lord, take my soul out of trouble.
5 He atawhai a Ihowa, he tika: ae, he aroha to tatou Atua.
The Lord is full of grace and righteousness; truly, he is a God of mercy.
6 E tiakina ana e Ihowa te hunga kuware: i whakaititia ahau, a nana ahau i whakaora.
The Lord keeps the simple; I was made low, and he was my saviour.
7 E hoki, e toku wairua, ki tou okiokinga; kua atawhaitia hoki koe e Ihowa.
Come back to your rest, O my soul; for the Lord has given you your reward.
8 Nau hoki toku wairua i whakaora kei mate, oku kanohi kei whai roimata, oku waewae kei paheke.
You have taken my soul from the power of death, keeping my eyes from weeping, and my feet from falling.
9 Tera ahau e haereere i te aroaro o Ihowa i te whenua o te ora.
I will go before the Lord in the land of the living.
10 I whakapono ahau, koia ahau i korero ai: he nui toku whakawhiunga.
I still had faith, though I said, I am in great trouble;
11 I mea ahau i toku ohoreretanga, He teka kau nga tangata katoa.
Though I said in my fear, All men are false.
12 He aha taku e whakahoki ai ki a Ihowa mo ana atawhainga katoa i ahau?
What may I give to the Lord for all the good things which he has done for me?
I will take the cup of salvation, and give praise to the name of the Lord.
I will make the offering of my oath to the Lord, even before all his people.
Dear in the eyes of the Lord is the death of his saints.
16 E Ihowa, he pono ko ahau tau pononga; ko ahau tau pononga, ko te tama a tau pononga wahine; nau i wewete oku here.
O Lord, truly I am your servant; I am your servant, the son of her who is your servant; by you have my cords been broken.
I will give an offering of praise to you, and make my prayer in the name of the Lord.
I will make the offerings of my oath, even before all his people;
Whakamoemititia a Ihowa.
In the Lord's house, even in Jerusalem. Praise be to the Lord.
