< Whakatauki 3 >

1 E taku tama, kei wareware ki taku ture; kia puritia hoki aku whakahau e tou ngakau:
My sonne, forget not thou my Lawe, but let thine heart keepe my commandements.
2 Katahi ka nui ake nga ra roa mou, nga tau e ora ai, me te ata noho.
For they shall increase the length of thy dayes and the yeeres of life, and thy prosperitie.
3 Kei whakarerea koe e te atawhai, e te pono; heia ki tou kaki; tuhituhia iho, ko tou ngakau ano hei papa.
Let not mercie and trueth forsake thee: binde them on thy necke, and write them vpon the table of thine heart.
So shalt thou finde fauour and good vnderstanding in the sight of God and man.
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and leane not vnto thine owne wisdome.
6 I ou ara katoa whakaaro ki a ia, a mana e whakatika ou huarahi.
In all thy wayes acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy wayes.
Be not wise in thine owne eyes: but feare the Lord, and depart from euill.
8 Hei ora tena ki tou pito, hei makuku ki ou wheua.
So health shalbe vnto thy nauel, and marowe vnto thy bones.
9 Kia whai kororia a Ihowa i ou rawa, i nga matamua ano hoki o au hua katoa.
Honour the Lord with thy riches, and with the first fruites of all thine increase.
10 A ka ki au toa i nga mea maha, ka pakaru ano hoki au rua waina i te waina.
So shall thy barnes be filled with abundance, and thy presses shall burst with newe wine.
11 E taku tama, kaua e whakahawea ki ta Ihowa papaki; kei ngakaukore ano koe ina akona e ia:
My sonne, refuse not the chastening of the Lord, neither be grieued with his correction.
12 Ka akona hoki e Ihowa tana e aroha ai, ka pera tana me ta te matua ki te tamaiti e matenuitia ana e ia.
For the Lord correcteth him, whome he loueth, euen as the father doeth the childe in whom he deliteth.
Blessed is the man that findeth wisedome, and the man that getteth vnderstanding.
14 Pai atu hoki te hokohoko o tera i to te hiriwa e hokohokona nei, ona hua i te koura parakore.
For the marchandise thereof is better then the marchandise of siluer, and the gaine thereof is better then golde.
15 Nui atu ona utu i o nga rupi; e kore ano hoki nga mea katoa e minaminatia e koe e rite ki a ia.
It is more precious then pearles: and all things that thou canst desire, are not to be compared vnto her.
16 Kei tona ringa matau nga ra roa; kei tona maui nga taonga me te kororia.
Length of dayes is in her right hand, and in her left hand riches and glory.
17 Ko ona ara he ara ahuareka, ko ona ara katoa he rangimarie.
Her wayes are wayes of pleasure, and all her pathes prosperitie.
18 He rakau ia no te ora ki te hunga e u ana ki a ia; ka hari te tangata e pupuri ana i a ia.
She is a tree of life to them that lay holde on her, and blessed is he that retaineth her.
The Lord by wisdome hath layde the foundation of the earth, and hath stablished the heauens through vnderstanding.
20 He mohio nona i pakaru ai nga rire, i maturuturu ai te tomairangi o nga kapua.
By his knowledge the depthes are broken vp, and the cloudes droppe downe the dewe.
21 E taku tama, kei kotiti ke ena i ou kanohi: puritia te whakaaro nui me te ngarahu pai.
My sonne, let not these things depart from thine eyes, but obserue wisdome, and counsell.
22 Kei ena he oranga mo tou wairua, he whakapaipai mo tou kaki.
So they shalbe life to thy soule, and grace vnto thy necke.
23 Penei ka haere koe i tou ara, te ai he wehi, e kore ano tou waewae e tutuki.
Then shalt thou walke safely by thy way: and thy foote shall not stumble.
24 Ka takoto koe, e kore e wehi, ina, ka takoto koe, ka reka ano tau moe.
If thou sleepest, thou shalt not bee afraide, and when thou sleepest, thy sleepe shalbe sweete.
Thou shalt not feare for any sudden feare, neither for the destruction of the wicked, when it commeth.
26 Ko Ihowa hoki hei okiokinga mou, a mana e tiaki tou waewae kei mau.
For the Lord shall be for thine assurance, and shall preserue thy foote from taking.
Withhold not the good from the owners thereof, though there be power in thine hand to doe it.
28 Kaua e mea ki tou hoa, Haere, ka hoki mai ai, a apopo ka hoatu e ahau; i te mea kei a koe ano te mea e takoto ana.
Say not vnto thy neighbour, Go and come againe, and to morow wil I giue thee, if thou now haue it.
29 Kei whakatakoto i te kino mo tou hoa, kei te noho hu noa na hoki ia i tou taha.
Intend none hurt against thy neighbour, seeing he doeth dwell without feare by thee.
Striue not with a man causelesse, when he hath done thee no harme.
Bee not enuious for the wicked man, neither chuse any of his wayes.
For the frowarde is abomination vnto the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous.
33 He kanga na Ihowa kei roto i te whare o te tangata kino, he mea manaaki ia nana te nohoanga o te hunga tika.
The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the righteous.
With the scornefull he scorneth, but hee giueth grace vnto the humble.
The wise shall inherite glorie: but fooles dishonour, though they be exalted.
