The family leaders of the Levites in the time of Eliashib, Joiada, Johanan, and Jaddua, in addition to those of the priests, were recorded during the reign of Darius the Persian.
As for the genealogy of the sons of Levi, the family leaders up to the time of Johanan, son of Eliashib, were listed in the Book of the Records.
24 A ko nga ariki o nga Riwaiti; ko Hahapia, ko Herepia, ko Hehua tama a Karamiere, me o ratou teina ano i te ritenga mai o ratou, hei whakamoemiti, hei whakawhetai; ko te mea hoki ia i whakahaua e ta te Atua tangata, e Rawiri, tenei tiakanga i te ritenga mai o tenei tiakanga.
The Levite leaders were Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua, son of Kadmiel, together with their fellow Levites, who stood opposite them, each section giving praise and thanks and responding to one another, as arranged by David, the man of God.
25 Ko Matania, ko Pakapukia, ko Oparia, ko Mehurama, ko Taramono, ko Akupu nga kaitiaki kuwaha, hei tiaki i nga whare taonga i nga kuwaha.
They were joined by Mattaniah, Bakbukiah, and Obadiah. Meshullam, Talmon, and Akkub were gatekeepers who guarded the storehouses at the gates.
26 No nga ra enei i a Ioiakimi tama a Hehua tama a Iohereke, no nga ra ano hoki i a Nehemia kawana, i a Etera tohunga, i te karaipi ra.
They served in the time of Joiakim, son of Jeshua, son of Jozadak, and in the time of Nehemiah the governor and Ezra the priest and scribe.
In order to dedicate the wall of Jerusalem, the Levites were called from everywhere they were living to come to Jerusalem and celebrate with joy the dedication with songs of praise and thanks, accompanied by cymbals, harps, and lyres.
28 I huihui mai ano nga tama a nga kaiwaiata i te mania i nga taha katoa o Hiruharama, i nga kainga ano hoki o nga Netopati;
The singers were also brought in from the area around Jerusalem and from the villages of the Netophathites,
29 I Petekirikara ano, i nga mara hoki o Kepa, o Atamawete; i hanga hoki e nga kaiwaiata he kainga mo ratou ki nga taha katoa o Hiruharama.
as well as from Beth-gilgal and from the area of Geba and Azmaveth, for the singers had built villages for themselves all around Jerusalem.
30 Na kei te pure nga tohunga ratou ko nga Riwaiti i a ratou; kei te pure hoki i te iwi, i nga kuwaha, i te taiepa.
Once the priests and the Levites had purified themselves, they purified the people, the gates, and the wall.
I had the leaders of Judah go up on the wall, and arranged two large choirs that to give thanks. One group went to right along the wall to the Refuse Gate.
32 A i muri i a ratou ka haere ko Hohaia me tetahi tanga o nga rangatira o Hura,
Hoshaiah and half the leaders of Judah followed them,
33 A Ataria, a Etera, a Mehurama,
with Azariah, Ezra, Meshullam,
34 A Hura, a Pineamine, a Hemaia, a Heremaia,
Judah, Benjamin, Shemaiah, and Jeremiah,
35 Me etahi o nga tama a nga tohunga e mau tetere ana; me Hakaraia tama a Honatana, tama a Hemaia, tama a Matania, tama a Mikaia, tama a Takuru, tama a Ahapa:
as well as some of the priests with trumpets, and Zechariah, son of Jonathan, son of Shemaiah, son of Mattaniah, son of Micaiah, son of Zaccur, son of Asaph,
36 Me ona teina, ara a Hemaia, a Atareere, a Mirarai, a Kirarai, a Maai, a Netaneere, a Hura, a Hanani, e mau ana i nga mea whakatangi a ta te Atua tangata, a Rawiri: a ko Etera karaipi kei to ratou aroaro.
and his fellow priests, Shemaiah, Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethanel, Judah, and Hanani, along with the musical instruments as required by David, the man of God. Ezra the scribe led them.
At the Fountain Gate they headed straight up by the stairs of the city of David, where the wall goes uphill, above the house of David, and on to the Water Gate on the east.
The other choir group went in the opposite direction. I followed them, along with half the people, on the wall passing the Tower of the Ovens, on to the Broad Wall,
over the Ephraim Gate, the Jeshanah Gate, the Fish Gate, the Tower of Hananel, and the Tower of the Hundred, as far as the Sheep Gate, stopping at the Guard Gate.
Both thanksgiving choirs then took their places in God's Temple. I followed with the group of leaders that was with me,
41 Ko nga tohunga; ko Eriakimi, ko Maaheia, ko Miniamini, ko Mikaia, ko Erioenai, ko Hakaraia, ko Hanania, e mau tetere ana;
along with the priests blowing their trumpets: Eliakim, Maaseiah, Miniamin, Micaiah, Elioenai, Zechariah, and Hananiah.
42 Ko Maaheia, ko Hemaia, ko Ereatara, ko Uti, ko Iehohanana, ko Marakia, ko Erama, ko Etere.
Then came the singers Maaseiah, Shemaiah, Eleazar, Uzzi, Jehohanan, Malchijah, Elam, and Ezer, and the choirs sang, directed by Jezrahiah.
43 He nui ano nga patunga tapu i patua e ratou i taua rangi, a koa ana ratou: he nui hoki te koa i meinga ai ratou e te Atua kia koa.
Many sacrifices were offered that day, celebrating that God had brought them so much happiness, tremendous happiness. The women and children also celebrated, and the sounds of joy in Jerusalem could be heard far away.
44 I whakaritea ano i taua wa etahi kaitirotiro i nga ruma mo nga taonga, mo nga whakahere hapahapai, mo nga hua matamua, mo nga whakatekau; ma ratou e kohikohi ki reira i nga mara o nga pa, nga wahi i whakaritea e te ture ma nga tohunga ratou ko n ga Riwaiti: i koa hoki a Hura ki nga tohunga, ki nga Riwaiti, ki nga mea e minita ana.
On the same day men were put in charge over the storerooms that contained the offerings, the first part of the crops, and tithes. What was allocated by the Law for the priests and Levites was brought into these storerooms from the fields around the towns, because all the people of Judah were happy for the service of the priests and Levites.
They were responsible for the worship of their God and for the service of purification, along with the singers and gatekeepers, following the instructions of David and his son Solomon.
46 No nga ra hoki o Rawiri raua ko Ahapa, nonamata iho, tera ano te rangatira mo nga kaiwaiata, me nga waiata whakamoemiti, me nga whakawhetai ki te Atua.
For long ago, back in the time of David and Asaph, directors had been appointed for the singers and for the songs of praise and thanks to God.
47 I nga ra hoki i a Herupapera, i nga ra ano i a Nehemia, i homai e Iharaira katoa nga wahi ma nga kaiwaiata, ma nga kaitiaki kuwaha, te wahi mo tenei ra, mo tenei ra: i whakatapua ano e ratou nga mea tapu ma nga Riwaiti; a ko nga Riwaiti hei whak atapu ma nga tama a Arona.
So in the time of Zerubbabel and of Nehemiah, everyone in Israel provided the daily food allowances for the singers and the gatekeepers. They also made sure to provide for the other Levites, and the Levites gave a share of this to the descendants of Aaron.
