സദൃശവാക്യങ്ങൾ 17

1 ൧ കലഹത്തോടുകൂടി ഒരു വീടു നിറയെ യാഗഭോജനത്തിലും സ്വസ്ഥതയോടുകൂടി ഒരു കഷണം ഉണങ്ങിയ അപ്പം ഏറ്റവും നല്ലത്.

Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, Than a house full of feasting with strife.

2 ൨ നാണംകെട്ട മകന്റെമേൽ ബുദ്ധിമാനായ ദാസൻ ഭരണം നടത്തും; സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ ഇടയിൽ അവകാശം പ്രാപിക്കും.

A servant that dealeth wisely shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, And shall have part in the inheritance among the brethren.

3 ൩ വെള്ളിക്ക് പുടം, പൊന്നിന് മൂശ; ഹൃദയങ്ങളെ ശോധന ചെയ്യുന്നതോ യഹോവ തന്നെ.

The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; But Jehovah trieth the hearts.

4 ൪ ദുഷ്ക്കർമ്മി നീതികെട്ട അധരങ്ങൾക്ക് ശ്രദ്ധകൊടുക്കുന്നു; വ്യാജം പറയുന്നവൻ വഷളത്തമുള്ള നാവിന് ചെവികൊടുക്കുന്നു.

An evil-doer giveth heed to wicked lips; [And] a liar giveth ear to a mischievous tongue.

5 ൫ ദരിദ്രനെ പരിഹസിക്കുന്നവൻ അവന്റെ സ്രഷ്ടാവിനെ നിന്ദിക്കുന്നു; ആപത്തിൽ സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നവന് ശിക്ഷ വരാതിരിക്കുകയില്ല.

Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker; [And] he that is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.

6 ൬ മക്കളുടെ മക്കൾ വൃദ്ധന്മാർക്ക് കിരീടമാകുന്നു; മക്കളുടെ മഹത്വം അവരുടെ അപ്പന്മാർ തന്നെ.

Children’s children are the crown of old men; And the glory of children are their fathers.

7 ൭ സുഭാഷിതം പറയുന്ന അധരം ഭോഷന് യോഗ്യമല്ല; വ്യാജമുള്ള അധരം ഒരു പ്രഭുവിന് ഒട്ടും ഉചിതമല്ല.

Excellent speech becometh not a fool; Much less do lying lips a prince.

8 ൮ സമ്മാനം വാങ്ങുന്നവന് അത് രത്നമായി തോന്നും; അവൻ ചെല്ലുന്നേടത്തെല്ലാം കാര്യം സാധിക്കും.

A bribe is [as] a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it; Whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.

9 ൯ സ്നേഹം തേടുന്നവൻ ലംഘനം മറച്ചുവയ്ക്കുന്നു; കാര്യം പാട്ടാക്കുന്നവനോ മിത്രങ്ങളെ ഭേദിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; But he that harpeth on a matter separateth chief friends.

10 ൧൦ ഭോഷനെ നൂറ് അടിക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ ബുദ്ധിമാനെ ഒന്ന് ശാസിക്കുന്നത് അധികം ഫലിക്കും.

A rebuke entereth deeper into one that hath understanding Than a hundred stripes into a fool.

11 ൧൧ മത്സരക്കാരൻ ദോഷം മാത്രം അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നു; ക്രൂരനായ ഒരു ദൂതനെ അവന്റെനേരെ അയയ്ക്കും.

An evil man seeketh only rebellion; Therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

12 ൧൨ മൂഢനെ അവന്റെ ഭോഷത്തത്തിൽ എതിരിടുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ കുട്ടികൾ കാണാതെപോയ കരടിയെ എതിരിടുന്നത് ഭേദം.

Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, Rather than a fool in his folly.

13 ൧൩ ഒരുത്തൻ നന്മയ്ക്കു പകരം തിന്മ ചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കിൽ അവന്റെ ഭവനത്തെ തിന്മ വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.

Whoso rewardeth evil for good, Evil shall not depart from his house.

14 ൧൪ കലഹത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭം മടവെട്ടി വെള്ളം വിടുന്നതുപോലെ; ആകയാൽ കലഹമാകുംമുമ്പ് തർക്കം നിർത്തിക്കളയുക.

The beginning of strife is [as] when one letteth out water: Therefore leave off contention, before there is quarrelling.

15 ൧൫ ദുഷ്ടനെ നീതീകരിക്കുന്നവനും നീതിമാനെ കുറ്റം വിധിക്കുന്നവനും രണ്ടുപേരും യഹോവയ്ക്ക് വെറുപ്പ്.

He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the righteous, Both of them alike are an abomination to Jehovah.

16 ൧൬ മൂഢന് ജ്ഞാനം സമ്പാദിക്കുവാൻ ബുദ്ധിയില്ലാതിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ അത് വാങ്ങുവാൻ അവന്റെ കയ്യിൽ പണം എന്തിന്?

Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, Seeing he hath no understanding?

17 ൧൭ സ്നേഹിതൻ എല്ലാകാലത്തും സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നു; അനർത്ഥകാലത്ത് അവൻ സഹോദരനായിത്തീരുന്നു.

A friend loveth at all times; And a brother is born for adversity.

18 ൧൮ ബുദ്ധിഹീനനായ മനുഷ്യൻ കയ്യടിച്ച് കൂട്ടുകാരനു വേണ്ടി ജാമ്യം നില്ക്കുന്നു.

A man void of understanding striketh hands, And becometh surety in the presence of his neighbor.

19 ൧൯ കലഹപ്രിയൻ ലംഘനപ്രിയൻ ആകുന്നു; അഹങ്കരാത്തോടെ സംസാരിക്കുന്നവന്‍ നാശം ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നു.

He loveth transgression that loveth strife: He that raiseth high his gate seeketh destruction.

20 ൨൦ വക്രഹൃദയമുള്ളവൻ നന്മ കാണുകയില്ല; വികടനാവുള്ളവൻ ആപത്തിൽ അകപ്പെടും.

He that hath a wayward heart findeth no good; And he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.

21 ൨൧ ഭോഷനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചവന് അത് ഖേദകാരണമാകും; മൂഢന്റെ അപ്പന് സന്തോഷം ഉണ്ടാകുകയില്ല.

He that begetteth a fool [doeth it] to his sorrow; And the father of a fool hath no joy.

22 ൨൨ സന്തുഷ്ടഹൃദയം നല്ലൊരു ഔഷധമാകുന്നു; തകർന്ന മനസ്സോ അസ്ഥികളെ ഉണക്കുന്നു.

A cheerful heart is a good medicine; But a broken spirit drieth up the bones.

23 ൨൩ ദുഷ്ടൻ ന്യായത്തിന്റെ വഴികളെ മറിക്കേണ്ടതിന് ഒളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന സമ്മാനം വാങ്ങുന്നു.

A wicked man receiveth a bribe out of the bosom, To pervert the ways of justice.

24 ൨൪ ജ്ഞാനം ബുദ്ധിമാന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നു; മൂഢന്റെ കണ്ണോ ഭൂമിയുടെ അറുതികളിലേക്ക് നോക്കുന്നു.

Wisdom is before the face of him that hath understanding; But the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.

25 ൨൫ മൂഢനായ മകൻ അപ്പന് വ്യസനവും, തന്നെ പ്രസവിച്ചവൾക്ക് കയ്പും ആകുന്നു.

A foolish son is a grief to his father, And bitterness to her that bare him.

26 ൨൬ നീതിമാന് പിഴ കല്പിക്കുന്നതും ശ്രേഷ്ഠന്മാരെ സത്യസന്ധത നിമിത്തം അടിക്കുന്നതും നല്ലതല്ല.

Also to punish the righteous is not good, [Nor] to smite the noble for [their] uprightness.

27 ൨൭ വാക്ക് അടക്കിവക്കുന്നവൻ പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ളവൻ; ശാന്തമാനസൻ ബുദ്ധിമാൻ തന്നെ.

He that spareth his words hath knowledge; And he that is of a cool spirit is a man of understanding.

28 ൨൮ മിണ്ടാതിരുന്നാൽ ഭോഷനെപ്പോലും ജ്ഞാനിയായും നാവടക്കിയാൽ വിവേകിയായും എണ്ണും.

Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise; When he shutteth his lips, he is [esteemed as] prudent.
