ഉല്പത്തി 4
1 ൧ ആദാം തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ ഹവ്വായെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവൾ ഗർഭംധരിച്ചു കയീനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു: “യഹോവയാൽ എനിക്ക് ഒരു പുരുഷസന്തതിയെ ലഭിച്ചു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And the man knew Eve his wife: and she conceived, and bore Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.
And she bore again, his brother, Abel; and Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
And it came to pass in process of time, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground and offering unto the Lord.
4 ൪ ഹാബെലും ആട്ടിൻകൂട്ടത്തിലെ കടിഞ്ഞൂലുകളിൽ നിന്ന് ഒന്നിനെ കൊന്ന്, അവയുടെ ഏറ്റവും കൊഴുപ്പുള്ള ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽനിന്ന് ഒരു വഴിപാട് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. യഹോവ ഹാബെലിലും അവന്റെ വഴിപാടിലും പ്രസാദിച്ചു.
And Abel—he also brought of the firstlings of his flock, and of the fattest thereof; and the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering;
But unto Cain and to his offering he had no respect; and it was very displeasing to Cain, and his countenance fell.
And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 ൭ നീ ശരിയായത് ചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കിൽ നീയും പ്രസാദമുണ്ടാകയില്ലയോ? നീ തിന്മ ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ട് പാപം വാതില്ക്കൽ കിടക്കുന്നു; അതിന്റെ ആഗ്രഹം നിന്നോടാകുന്നു; നീയോ അതിനെ കീഴടക്കണം” എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.
If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door; and unto thee is its desire, but thou canst rule over it.
8 ൮ അപ്പോൾ കയീൻ തന്റെ അനുജനായ ഹാബെലിനോട് “നാം വയലിലേക്കു പോക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവർ വയലിൽ ആയിരുന്നപ്പോൾ കയീൻ തന്റെ അനുജനായ ഹാബെലിനെതിരായി എഴുന്നേറ്റ് അവനെ കൊന്നു.
And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 ൯ പിന്നെ യഹോവ കയീനോട്: “നിന്റെ അനുജനായ ഹാബെൽ എവിടെ? എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്: “എനിക്ക് അറിഞ്ഞുകൂടാ; ഞാൻ എന്റെ അനുജന്റെ കാവൽക്കാരനോ? എന്നു അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു.
And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel they brother? and he said, I know not; am I my brother's keeper?
10 ൧൦ അതിന് അവിടുന്ന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തത്. “നീ എന്ത് ചെയ്തു? നിന്റെ അനുജന്റെ രക്തത്തിന്റെ ശബ്ദം ഭൂമിയിൽനിന്ന് എന്നോട് നിലവിളിക്കുന്നു.
And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11 ൧൧ ഇപ്പോൾ നിന്റെ കൈയിൽനിന്ന് നിന്റെ അനുജന്റെ രക്തം സ്വീകരിക്കുവാൻ വായ് തുറന്ന ദേശംവിട്ട് നീ ശാപഗ്രസ്തനായി പോകണം.
And now be thou cursed from the ground, which hath opened its mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand:
12 ൧൨ നീ കൃഷി ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ നിലം ഇനി ഒരിക്കലും അതിന്റെ വീര്യം നിനക്ക് തരികയില്ല; നീ ഭൂമിയിൽ അലഞ്ഞുതിരിയുന്നവൻ ആകും”.
When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield its strength unto thee; fugitive and vagabond shalt thou be on the earth.
And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14 ൧൪ ഇതാ, അങ്ങ് ഇന്ന് എന്നെ പുറത്താക്കുന്നു; ഞാൻ തിരുസന്നിധിവിട്ട് ഒളിച്ചു ഭൂമിയിൽ അലഞ്ഞുതിരിയുന്നവൻ ആകും; ആരെങ്കിലും എന്നെ കണ്ടാൽ, എന്നെ കൊല്ലും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the ground; and from thy face shall I be hid; and if I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, it will come to pass, that every one that findeth me will slay me.
15 ൧൫ യഹോവ അവനോട്: “അതുകൊണ്ട് ആരെങ്കിലും കയീനെ കൊന്നാൽ അവന്റെമേൽ ഏഴിരട്ടിയായി പ്രതികാരംചെയ്യും” എന്ന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു; കയീനെ കാണുന്നവർ ആരും അവനെ കൊല്ലാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിനു യഹോവ കയീന്റെമേൽ ഒരു അടയാളം പതിച്ചു.
And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him seven-fold. And the Lord set a sign unto Cain, that any one finding him should not kill him.
And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
17 ൧൭ കയീൻ തന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവൾ ഗർഭംധരിച്ചു ഹാനോക്കിനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു. കയീൻ ഒരു പട്ടണം പണിതു, ഹാനോക്ക് എന്നു തന്റെ മകന്റെ പേരിട്ടു.
And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived, and bore Enoch; and he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son Enoch.
18 ൧൮ ഹാനോക്കിന് ഈരാദ് ജനിച്ചു; ഈരാദ് മെഹൂയയേലിനു ജന്മം നൽകി; മെഹൂയയേൽ മെഥൂശയേലിനു ജന്മം നൽകി; മെഥൂശയേൽ ലാമെക്കിനു ജനകനായി.
And unto Enoch was born Irad; and Irad begat Mechujael: and Mechujael begat Methushael; and Methushael begat Lemech.
And Lemech took unto himself two wives, the name of one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
And Adah bore Jabal; he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and have cattle.
21 ൨൧ അവന്റെ സഹോദരന് യൂബാൽ എന്നു പേർ. ഇവൻ കിന്നരവും ഓടക്കുഴലും വായിക്കുന്ന എല്ലാവർക്കും പിതാവായിതീർന്നു.
And his brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all such as play on the harp and guitar.
22 ൨൨ സില്ലാ തൂബൽകയീനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; അവൻ ചെമ്പുപണിക്കാരുടെയും ഇരിമ്പുപണിക്കാരുടെയും ഗുരുവായിരുന്നു; നയമാ ആയിരുന്നു തൂബൽകയീന്റെ സഹോദരി,
And Zillah, she also bore Tubal-cain, an artificer in every article of copper and iron; and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.
23 ൨൩ ലാമെക്ക് തന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരോടു പറഞ്ഞത്: “ആദയും സില്ലയും ആയുള്ളോരേ, എന്റെ വാക്കു കേൾക്കുവിൻ; ലാമെക്കിൻ ഭാര്യമാരേ, എന്റെ വചനത്തിനു ചെവിതരുവിൻ! എന്നെ മുറിപ്പെടുത്തിയ ഒരു പുരുഷനെയും എന്നെ പരിക്കേൽപ്പിച്ച ഒരു യുവാവിനെയും ഞാൻ കൊന്നു.
And Lemech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; ye wives of Lemech, hearken unto my speech; for I have slain a man to my own wounding, and a young-man to my hurt.
If Cain shall be avenged seven-fold, truly Lemech seventy and seven-fold.
25 ൨൫ ആദാം തന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ പിന്നെയും പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവൾ ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു: “കയീൻ കൊന്ന ഹാബെലിനു പകരം ദൈവം എനിക്ക് മറ്റൊരു സന്തതിയെ തന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ് അവന് ശേത്ത് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.
And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son, and called his name Sheth [[Seth]]; for God [said she] hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
26 ൨൬ ശേത്തിനും ഒരു മകൻ ജനിച്ചു; അവന് ഏനോശ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു. ആ കാലത്ത് യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തിലുള്ള ആരാധന തുടങ്ങി.
And to Sheth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enosh: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.
