1 ൧ സ്തെഫാനൊസിനെ കൊലചെയ്തത് ശൌലിന് സമ്മതമായിരുന്നു. അന്ന് യെരൂശലേമിലെ സഭയ്ക്ക് ഒരു വലിയ പീഢനം നേരിട്ടു; അപ്പൊസ്തലന്മാർ ഒഴികെ എല്ലാവരും യെഹൂദ്യ ശമര്യ ദേശങ്ങളിൽ ചിതറിപ്പോയി.
And Saul was well pleased with his slaughter. And at that time there was a great persecution against the congregation in Jerusalem; and they were all dispersed through the regions of Judea, and Samaria, except the Apostles.
And devout men carried away Stephen, and made great lamentation for him.
3 ൩ എന്നാൽ ശൌല്‍ വീടുതോറും ചെന്ന് പുരുഷന്മാരെയും സ്ത്രീകളെയും വലിച്ചിഴച്ചു തടവിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് സഭയ്ക്ക് ഹാനി വരുത്തിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
But Saul made havoc of the congregation, entering into houses, and dragging men and whom, whom he committed to prison.
Nevertheless, they who were dispersed, went about declaring the glad tidings of the word.
Then came Philip to the city of Samaria, and announced the Messiah to them.
6 ൬ ഫിലിപ്പൊസ് ചെയ്ത അടയാളങ്ങൾ ജനങ്ങൾ കേൾക്കുകയും കാൺകയും ചെയ്കയാൽ അവൻ പറയുന്നത് ഏകമനസ്സോടെ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
And the people unanimously attended to the things that were spoken by Philip; as they heard them, and saw the miracles which he performed.
7 ൭ അശുദ്ധാത്മാക്കൾ ബാധിച്ച പലരിൽനിന്നും അവ ഉറക്കെ നിലവിളിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് പുറപ്പെട്ടു; അനേകം പക്ഷവാതക്കാരും മുടന്തരും സൗഖ്യം പ്രാപിച്ചു.
For, unclean spirits, which had possessed many, crying with a loud voice, came out of them; and many, who were paralytic and lame, were healed.
And there was great joy in that city.
9 ൯ എന്നാൽ ശിമോൻ എന്ന് പേരുള്ളോരു പുരുഷൻ ആ പട്ടണത്തിൽ ആഭിചാരം ചെയ്ത്, താൻ മഹാൻ എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ് ശമര്യ ജാതിയെ ഭ്രമിപ്പിച്ചുപോന്നു.
But there was a certain man named Simon, who had, before, in that city, used magic, and astonished the nation of Samaria; pretending himself to be some extraordinary person:
10 ൧൦ “മഹാൻ എന്ന് വിളിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ദൈവശക്തി ഈ മനുഷ്യനാകുന്നു” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ് ശമര്യയിലുള്ള ചെറിയവർ മുതൽ വലിയവർ വരെ അവനെ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചുവന്നു.
to whom they all paid regard, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.
And they paid regard to him; because he had, for a long time, astonished them wit his enchantments.
12 ൧൨ എന്നാൽ ദൈവരാജ്യത്തെയും യേശുക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ നാമത്തെയും കുറിച്ചുള്ള സുവിശേഷം അറിയിക്കുന്ന ഫിലിപ്പൊസിനെ അവർ വിശ്വസിച്ചപ്പോൾ പുരുഷന്മാരും സ്ത്രീകളും സ്നാനം ഏറ്റു.
But when they gave credit to Philip, declaring the glad tidings concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ: they were immersed, both men and women.
13 ൧൩ ശിമോൻ താനും വിശ്വസിച്ച് സ്നാനം ഏറ്റു, ഫിലിപ്പൊസിനോട് ചേർന്നുനിന്നു; വലിയ അടയാളങ്ങളും വീര്യപ്രവൃത്തികളും നടക്കുന്നത് കണ്ടപ്പോൾ അവൻ ആശ്ചര്യപ്പെട്ടു.
And Simon himself also believed; and being immersed, he kept near to Philip, beholding with amazement, the great and powerful miracles which were done.
14 ൧൪ അനന്തരം യെരൂശലേമിലുള്ള അപ്പൊസ്തലന്മാർ, ശമര്യർ ദൈവവചനം കൈക്കൊണ്ടു എന്നു കേട്ടിട്ട് പത്രൊസിനെയും യോഹന്നാനെയും അവരുടെ അടുക്കൽ അയച്ചു.
Now when the Apostles, who were at Jerusalem, heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent them Peter and John;
who, going down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit.
16 ൧൬ അന്നുവരെ അവരിൽ ആരുടെമേലും പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ് വന്നിരുന്നില്ല; അവർ കർത്താവായ യേശുവിന്റെ നാമത്തിൽ സ്നാനം ഏറ്റിരുന്നതേയുള്ളു.
(For he was not yet fallen on any of them; only, they were immersed into the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
18 ൧൮ അപ്പൊസ്തലന്മാർ കൈ വെച്ചതിനാൽ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ് ലഭിച്ചത് ശിമോൻ കണ്ടതിനാൽ അവൻ അവർക്ക് കൊടുക്കുവാൻ പണം കൊണ്ടുവന്നു:
Now when Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given by the imposition of the Apostles' hands, he offered them money,
19 ൧൯ “ഞാൻ ഒരുവന്റെ മേൽ കൈ വെച്ചാൽ അവന് പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ് ലഭിപ്പാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം ഈ അധികാരം എനിക്കും തരേണം” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.
20 ൨൦ പത്രൊസ് അവനോട്: “ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദാനം പണം കൊടുത്ത് വാങ്ങിക്കൊള്ളാം എന്ന് നീ നിരൂപിക്കകൊണ്ട് നിന്റെ പണം നിന്നോടുകൂടെ നശിച്ചുപോകട്ടെ.
But Peter said to him, Let your money go with you to destruction, since you have thought that the free gift of God might be purchased with money.
You have no part nor lot in this matter; for your heart is not upright in the sight of God.
22 ൨൨ നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിലെ ഈ വഷളത്വം വിട്ട് മാനസാന്തരപ്പെട്ട് കർത്താവിനോട് പ്രാർത്ഥിക്കുക; ഒരുപക്ഷേ നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിലെ നിരൂപണം ക്ഷമിച്ചുകിട്ടുമായിരിക്കും.
Reform, therefore, from this your wickedness; and beg of God, if, indeed, the thought of your heart may be forgiven you;
23 ൨൩ നീ കടുത്ത അസൂയയിലും പാപത്തിന്റെ ബന്ധനത്തിലും അകപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് ഞാൻ കാണുന്നു” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
for I perceive that you are in the gall of bitterness, and bond of iniquity.
24 ൨൪ അതിന് ശിമോൻ: “നിങ്ങൾ പറഞ്ഞത് ഒന്നും എനിക്ക് ഭവിക്കാതിരിക്കുവാൻ കർത്താവിനോട് എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി പ്രാർത്ഥിക്കുവിൻ” എന്ന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
And Simon answered, and said, Make your supplications to the Lord on my behalf; that none of these things which you have spoken, may come upon me.
25 ൨൫ അവർ കർത്താവിന്റെ വചനം സാക്ഷീകരിച്ചു പ്രസംഗിച്ചശേഷം ശമര്യക്കാരുടെ അനേക ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിൽ സുവിശേഷം അറിയിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് യെരൂശലേമിലേക്ക് മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.
Now when they had borne their testimony, and had spoke the word of the Lord, they turned back for Jerusalem; and declared the glad tidings in many villages of the Samaritans.
26 ൨൬ അനന്തരം കർത്താവിന്റെ ദൂതൻ ഫിലിപ്പൊസിനോട്: “നീ എഴുന്നേറ്റ് തെക്കോട്ട് യെരൂശലേമിൽനിന്ന് ഗസയ്ക്കുള്ള നിർജ്ജനമായ വഴിയിലേക്കു പോക” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
And a messenger of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south, by the way that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza, which is desert.
27 ൨൭ അവൻ പുറപ്പെട്ടു ചെന്നപ്പോൾ കന്ദക്ക എന്ന എത്യോപ്യാരാജ്ഞിയുടെ ഒരു ഷണ്ഡനും മഹാനും അവളുടെ സകലഭണ്ഡാരത്തിനും മേൽവിചാരകനുമായ ഒരു എത്യോപ്യനെ കണ്ട്. അവൻ യെരൂശലേമിൽ നമസ്കരിപ്പാൻ വന്നിട്ട് മടങ്ങിപ്പോരുമ്പോൾ
And he arose, and took his journey; and, behold, a certain Ethiopian officer, a grandee of Candace, the queen of the Ethiopians, that was over all her treasure, who had come to worship at Jerusalem,
was returning, and sat in his chariot, reading the Prophet Isaiah.
And the Spirit said to Philip, Approach, and join yourself to this chariot.
30 ൩൦ ഫിലിപ്പൊസ് ഓടിച്ചെല്ലുമ്പോൾ യെശയ്യാപ്രവാചകന്റെ പുസ്തകം അവൻ വായിക്കുന്നതു കേട്ട്: “നീ വായിക്കുന്നത് ഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നുവോ?” എന്ന് ചോദിച്ചതിന്:
And Philip, running up, heard him read in the Prophet Isaiah, and said, Do you understand what you are reading?
31 ൩൧ “ഒരുവൻ ശരിയായി വിവരിച്ചു തരാഞ്ഞാൽ എങ്ങനെ ഗ്രഹിക്കും” എന്ന് അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു, ഫിലിപ്പൊസ് കയറി തന്നോടുകൂടെ ഇരിക്കേണം എന്ന് അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.
And he said, How can I, unless some one should guide me? And he requested Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
32 ൩൨ തിരുവെഴുത്തിൽ ഈ ഭാഗം ആയിരുന്നു അവൻ വായിച്ചിരുന്നത് “അറുക്കുവാനുള്ള ആടിനേപ്പോലെ അവനെ കൊണ്ടുപോയി; രോമം കത്രിക്കുന്നവന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ മിണ്ടാതിരിക്കുന്ന കുഞ്ഞാടിനെപ്പോലെ അവൻ വായ് തുറക്കാതിരുന്നു.
Now the passage of scripture which he was reading, was this, "He was brought to the slaughter, as a sheep; and as a lamb before its shearer, is dumb; so he opened not his mouth.
33 ൩൩ അവന്റെ താഴ്ചയിൽ അവന് ന്യായം കിട്ടാതെ പോയി; അവന്റെ തലമുറയെ ആർ വിവരിക്കും? ഭൂമിയിൽനിന്നു അവന്റെ ജീവനെ എടുത്തുകളയുന്നുവല്ലോ”.
In his humiliation his condemnation was extorted; and who shall describe his generation? for his life is cut off from the earth."
34 ൩൪ ഷണ്ഡൻ ഫിലിപ്പൊസിനോട്: “ഇത് പ്രവാചകൻ ആരെക്കുറിച്ച് പറയുന്നു? തന്നെക്കുറിച്ചോ മറ്റൊരുത്തനെക്കുറിച്ചോ എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞുതരേണം” എന്നു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.
The officer answering Philip, said, I beseech you, of whom does the prophet say this? --of himself, or of some other person?
35 ൩൫ ഫിലിപ്പൊസ് ഈ തിരുവെഴുത്ത് ആധാരമാക്കി അവനോട് യേശുവിനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള സുവിശേഷം അറിയിക്കുവാൻ തുടങ്ങി.
Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from the scripture, told him the glad tidings concerning Jesus.
36 ൩൬ അവർ ഇങ്ങനെ വഴിപോകയിൽ വെള്ളമുള്ളൊരു സ്ഥലത്ത് എത്തിയപ്പോൾ ഷണ്ഡൻ: “ഇതാ വെള്ളം; ഞാൻ സ്നാനം ഏല്ക്കുന്നതിൽനിന്ന് എന്ത് എന്നെ തടസ്സപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
And as they went along the way, they came to a certain water, and the officer said, Behold, water; what hinders my being immersed?
37 ൩൭ അതിന് ഫിലിപ്പൊസ്: “നീ പൂർണ്ണഹൃദയത്തോടെ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു എങ്കിൽ ആകാം” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. “യേശുക്രിസ്തു ദൈവപുത്രൻ എന്ന് ഞാൻ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു” എന്ന് അവൻ ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
38 ൩൮ അങ്ങനെ അവൻ തേർ നിർത്തുവാൻ കല്പിച്ചു: ഫിലിപ്പൊസും ഷണ്ഡനും ഇരുവരും വെള്ളത്തിൽ ഇറങ്ങി, അവൻ അവനെ സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിച്ചു.
And he ordered the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the officer; and he immersed him.
39 ൩൯ അവർ വെള്ളത്തിൽനിന്ന് കയറിയപ്പോൾ കർത്താവിന്റെ ആത്മാവ് ഫിലിപ്പൊസിനെ എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടുപോയി; ഷണ്ഡൻ അവനെ പിന്നെ കണ്ടില്ല; അവൻ സന്തോഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് തന്റെ വഴിക്കുപോയി.
And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly conveyed away Philip, and the officer saw him no more: so he went on his way rejoicing.
40 ൪൦ ഫിലിപ്പൊസിനെ പിന്നെ അസ്തോദിൽ കണ്ട്; അവൻ ദേശത്തൂടെല്ലാം സഞ്ചരിച്ച് എല്ലാ പട്ടണങ്ങളിലും സുവിശേഷം അറിയിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് കൈസര്യയിൽ എത്തി.
But Philip was found at Azotus; and going on thence, he proclaimed the glad tidings in all the cities, till he came to Cesarea.
