അപ്പൊ. പ്രവൃത്തികൾ 17
1 ൧ പൗലോസും ശീലാസും അംഫിപൊലിസിലും അപ്പൊലോന്യയിലുംകൂടി യാത്രചെയ്ത് തെസ്സലോനിക്യയിൽ എത്തി; അവിടെ യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ ഒരു പള്ളി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:
2 ൨ പൗലൊസ് താൻ പതിവായി ചെയ്യാറുള്ളതുപോലെ അവരുടെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്ന് മൂന്നു ശബ്ബത്ത് ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ തിരുവെഴുത്തുകളെ ആധാരമാക്കി യേശു തന്നെ ക്രിസ്തു എന്ന് അവരോട് സംവാദിച്ചു.
And Paul, as his manner was, went in to them, and on three sabbaths reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
3 ൩ ക്രിസ്തു കഷ്ടം അനുഭവിക്കയും മരിച്ചവരിൽനിന്ന് ഉയിർത്തെഴുന്നേല്ക്കുകയും വേണം എന്നും, ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോട് അറിയിക്കുന്ന ഈ യേശു തന്നെ ക്രിസ്തു എന്നും തെളിയിച്ചും വിവരിച്ചും കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
Opening and alleging, that it was needful that Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach to you, is Christ.
4 ൪ കേൾവിക്കാരിൽ ചിലരും ഭക്തിയുള്ള യവനന്മാരിൽ ഒരു വലിയ കൂട്ടവും മാന്യസ്ത്രീകളിൽ അനേകരും വസ്തുതകൾ ബോദ്ധ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ട് വിശ്വസിച്ച് പൗലൊസിനോടും ശീലാസിനോടും ചേർന്നു.
And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
5 ൫ യെഹൂദന്മാരോ അസൂയപൂണ്ട്, ചന്തസ്ഥലത്ത് മിനക്കെട്ടുനടക്കുന്ന ചില ദുഷ്ടന്മാരെ ചേർത്ത് പുരുഷാരത്തെ ഇളക്കി പട്ടണത്തിൽ കലഹം ഉണ്ടാക്കി യാസോന്റെ വീട് വളഞ്ഞ് അവരെ ജനസമൂഹത്തിൽ കൊണ്ടുവരുവാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചു.
But the Jews who believed not, moved with envy, took to them certain wicked fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city in an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.
6 ൬ പൗലൊസിനെയും ശീലാസിനെയും കാണാഞ്ഞിട്ട് യാസോനെയും ചില സഹോദരന്മാരെയും നഗരാധിപന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കലേക്ക് വലിച്ച് ഇഴച്ചുകൊണ്ട്: “ഭൂലോകത്തെ കലഹിപ്പിച്ചവർ ഇവിടെയും എത്തി;
And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren to the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down have come here also;
7 ൭ യാസോൻ അവരെ സ്വീകരിച്ചും ഇരിക്കുന്നു; അവർ ഒക്കെയും യേശു എന്ന മറ്റൊരുവൻ രാജാവ് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് കൈസരുടെ നിയമങ്ങൾക്ക് പ്രതികൂലമായി പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു” എന്ന് നിലവിളിച്ചു.
Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.
And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.
And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the others, they let them go.
10 ൧൦ സഹോദരന്മാർ ഉടനെ, രാത്രിയിൽ തന്നെ, പൗലൊസിനെയും ശീലാസിനെയും ബെരോവയ്ക്ക് പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു. അവിടെ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ അവർ യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ പള്ളിയിൽ പോയി.
And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night to Berea: who coming there went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 ൧൧ അവർ തെസ്സലോനിക്യയിലുള്ളവരേക്കാൾ ഉന്നത ചിന്താശീലം ഉള്ളവർ ആയിരുന്നു. അവർ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്ന വചനം പൂർണ്ണജാഗ്രതയോടെ സ്വീകരിക്കുക മാത്രമല്ല അത് അങ്ങനെ തന്നെയോ എന്ന് ദിനംപ്രതി തിരുവെഴുത്തുകളെ പരിശോധിച്ചു പോന്നു.
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women who were Greeks, and of men, not a few.
13 ൧൩ പൗലൊസ് ബെരോവയിലും ദൈവവചനം അറിയിച്ചത് തെസ്സലോനിക്യയിലെ യെഹൂദന്മാർ അറിഞ്ഞ് അവിടെയും വന്ന് പുരുഷാരത്തിനിടയിൽ ഭിന്നത ഉളവാക്കി ഭ്രമിപ്പിച്ചു.
But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached by Paul at Berea, they came there also, and stirred up the people.
14 ൧൪ ഉടനെ സഹോദരന്മാർ പൗലൊസിനെ സമുദ്രതീരത്തേക്ക് പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു; ശീലാസും തിമൊഥെയോസും അവിടെത്തന്നെ താമസിച്ചു.
And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timothy abode there still.
15 ൧൫ പൗലൊസിനോടുകൂടെ വഴികാട്ടുവാനായി പോയവർ അവനെ അഥേനയോളം കൊണ്ടുപോയി; ശീലാസും തിമൊഥെയോസും കഴിയുന്ന വേഗത്തിൽ തന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരേണം എന്നുള്ള കല്പന പൗലൊസിൽനിന്നും വാങ്ങി മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു.
And they that conducted Paul brought him to Athens: and receiving a commandment to Silas and Timothy to come to him with all speed, they departed.
16 ൧൬ പൗലൊസ് അഥേനയിൽ അവരെ കാത്തിരിക്കവെ നഗരത്തിൽ ബിംബങ്ങൾ നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നത് കണ്ട് ആത്മാവിൽ അവൻ കലങ്ങിപ്പോയി.
Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
17 ൧൭ അതുകൊണ്ട്, അവൻ പള്ളിയിൽവെച്ച് യെഹൂദന്മാരോടും ദൈവഭക്തന്മാരോടും ചന്തസ്ഥലത്ത് ദിവസേന കണ്ടവരോടും തർക്കിച്ചുപോന്നു.
Therefore he disputed in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.
18 ൧൮ എപ്പിക്കൂര്യരും സ്തോയിക്കരും ആയ തത്വജ്ഞാനികളിൽ ചിലർ അവനോട് വാദിച്ചു: “ഈ വായാടി എന്ത് പറവാൻ പോകുന്നു?” എന്ന് ചിലരും അവൻ യേശുവിനെയും പുനരുത്ഥാനത്തെയും പ്രസംഗിക്കകൊണ്ട്: “ഇവൻ അന്യദേവതകളെ ഘോഷിക്കുന്നവൻ എന്ന് തോന്നുന്നു” എന്നു മറ്റുചിലരും പറഞ്ഞു.
Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoics, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? some others, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached to them Jesus, and the resurrection.
19 ൧൯ പിന്നെ അവനെ പിടിച്ച് അരയോപഗക്കുന്നിന്മേൽ കൊണ്ടുചെന്ന്: “നീ പ്രസ്താവിക്കുന്ന ഈ നവീനോപദേശം ഇന്നത് എന്ന് ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് അറിവുള്ളതോ?
And they took him, and brought him to Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine is, of which thou speakest?
20 ൨൦ നീ അപൂർവങ്ങളായ ചില കാര്യങ്ങളെ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ചെവിയിൽ കടത്തുന്നുവല്ലോ; അത് എന്ത് എന്ന് അറിവാൻ ഞങ്ങൾ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.
21 ൨൧ (എന്നാൽ അഥേനരും അവിടെ വന്നുപാർക്കുന്ന പരദേശികളും, പുതിയ കാര്യങ്ങൾ വല്ലതും പറയുകയോ കേൾക്കുകയോ ചെയ്യുന്നതിനല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊന്നിനും അവരുടെ സമയം ചിലവഴിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല).
( For all the Athenians and strangers who were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)
22 ൨൨ പൗലൊസ് അരയോപഗമദ്ധ്യേ നിന്നുകൊണ്ട് പറഞ്ഞത്, “അഥേനപുരുഷന്മാരേ, നിങ്ങൾ എല്ലാറ്റിലും അതിഭക്തന്മാർ എന്ന് ഞാൻ കാണുന്നു.
Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are very religious.
23 ൨൩ ഞാൻ ചുറ്റിനടന്ന് നിങ്ങളുടെ പൂജാസ്ഥാനങ്ങളെ നോക്കുമ്പോൾ ‘അജ്ഞാതദേവന്’ എന്ന് എഴുത്തുള്ള ഒരു ബലിപീഠം കണ്ട്; എന്നാൽ നിങ്ങൾ അറിയാതെ പൂജിക്കുന്നതുതന്നെ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോട് അറിയിക്കുന്നു.
For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I to you.
24 ൨൪ ലോകവും അതിലുള്ളത് ഒക്കെയും ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ ദൈവം സ്വർഗ്ഗത്തിനും ഭൂമിക്കും നാഥനാകകൊണ്ട് കൈപ്പണിയായ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ വാസം ചെയ്യുന്നില്ല.
God that made the world and all things in it, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
25 ൨൫ താൻ എല്ലാവർക്കും ജീവനും ശ്വാസവും മറ്റാവശ്യമായ സകലവും കൊടുക്കുന്നവൻ ആകയാൽ വല്ലതിനും മുട്ടുള്ളവൻ എന്നപോലെ മാനുഷകൈകളാൽ ശുശ്രൂഷ ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നില്ല.
Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
26 ൨൬ ഭൂതലത്തിൽ എങ്ങും വസിക്കുവാനായി അവൻ ഒരുവനിൽനിന്ന് മനുഷ്യജാതിയെ ഒക്കെയും ഉളവാക്കി, അവരുടെ നിവാസത്തിന് അതിരുകളും കാലങ്ങളും നിശ്ചയിച്ചു.
And hath made of one blood all nations of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
27 ൨൭ തങ്ങൾക്ക് ദൈവത്തെ ആവശ്യം ഉണ്ട് എന്ന് അവർ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ് ദൈവത്തെ അന്വേഷിക്കേണ്ടതിനുതന്നെ. അവൻ നമ്മിൽ ആർക്കും അകന്നിരിക്കുന്നവനല്ലതാനും.
That they should seek the Lord, if perhaps they might grope after him, and find him, though he is not far from every one of us:
28 ൨൮ അവനിലല്ലോ നാം ജീവിക്കയും ചരിക്കയും നിലനിൽക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നത്. അങ്ങനെ നിങ്ങളുടെ കവിവരന്മാരിലും ചിലർ: ‘നാം അവന്റെ സന്താനമല്ലോ’ എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.
For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
29 ൨൯ നാം ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സന്താനം എന്ന് വരികയാൽ ദൈവം മനുഷ്യന്റെ ശില്പവിദ്യയും സങ്കല്പവുംകൊണ്ട് കൊത്തിത്തീർക്കാവുന്ന പൊന്ന്, വെള്ളി, കല്ല് എന്നിവയോട് സദൃശപ്പെടുത്തുവാൻ കഴിയും എന്ന് നിരൂപിക്കേണ്ടതില്ല.
Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like gold, or silver, or stone, formed by art and man’s device.
30 ൩൦ എന്നാൽ അറിയായ്മയുടെ കാലങ്ങളെ ദൈവം അവഗണിച്ചിട്ട് ഇപ്പോൾ എല്ലായിടത്തും എല്ലാവരും മാനസാന്തരപ്പെടണമെന്ന് മനുഷ്യരോടു കല്പിക്കുന്നു.
And the times of this ignorance God overlooked; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
31 ൩൧ ലോകത്തെ നീതിയിൽ ന്യായം വിധിപ്പാനായി നിയമിച്ച പുരുഷൻ മുഖാന്തരം ദൈവം ഒരു ദിവസത്തെ നിശ്ചയിച്ചു; അവനെ മരിച്ചവരിൽനിന്ന് ഉയിർത്തെഴുന്നേല്പിച്ചതിനാൽ എല്ലാവർക്കും അതിന്റെ ഉറപ്പ് നല്കിയുമിരിക്കുന്നു”.
Because he hath appointed a day, when he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; of which he hath given assurance to all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
32 ൩൨ മരിച്ചവരുടെ പുനരുത്ഥാനത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് കേട്ടിട്ട് ചിലർ പരിഹസിക്കുകയും; മറ്റുചിലർ: “ഞങ്ങൾ ഇതിനെപ്പറ്റി പിന്നെയും നിന്റെ പ്രസംഗം കേൾക്കാം” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again concerning this matter.
So Paul departed from among them.
34 ൩൪ ചില പുരുഷന്മാർ അവനോട് ചേർന്ന് വിശ്വസിച്ചു; അവരിൽ അരയോപഗസ്ഥാനിയായ ദിയൊനുസ്യോസും ദമരീസ് എന്നു പേരുള്ളോരു സ്ത്രീയും മറ്റ് ചിലരും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
But certain men joined themselves to him, and believed: among whom was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
